Before diving into today’s narrative, I’d like for you to try to put yourself into my place for a brief moment.  Imagine yourself in very rural Costa Rica (CR) where you have no relatives, no connections, and no real friends.  You’re fluent in Spanish but the locals can and do go into machine gun bursts […]

Despite Senate leadership’s assertion that its opponents are anarchists, I think it’s safe to say that every American who calls himself “conservative” does want a strenuous central government that can competently administer certain national functions. Which functions? Heh, that’s the subject of much debate — some conservatives have a lengthy list, others keep a list […]

Having now proven that they are beyond reason, that they are fanatical baby killers whose love of torturing defenseless babies to death is eclipsed only by their canine affection for murdering Union bosses, Democrats are now on their way to wrecking the economy and starving children to death in the streets by passing the Single […]

Its probably nothing. I mean, this sort of thing happens all the time, right? On Saturday night September 28th, 2013 the Canadian blog Vox Cantoris reported: Sources close to this writer advised a few days ago that the Papal Nuncio to Canada would be replaced sometime in October, perhaps around the 15th. In an unexpected […]

Queueing is never far when the government tries to run something. Multiple attempts to log onto the New York State health exchange this morning have only yielded this message. A good metaphor for the lifetime of queueing which awaits us now. At least there is  some transparency. The problem seems to lie with pesky “line […]

I’ve had two severe car accidents of friend’s teenagers in the last three days.  (I get the call to help translate medical terms and prognosis).  These accidents sadden and frustrate me, and seems to be getting worse and more often.  If technology gets us into this trouble, maybe techonology can help.  I found a couple services and applications that […]

Is American Jewry Dissolving?

The New York Times is reporting that the first major poll of American Jews in over a decade has shown “a significant rise in those who are not religious, marry outside the faith and are not raising their children Jewish — resulting in rapid assimilation that is sweeping through every branch of Judaism except the Orthodox.”

Intermarriage is now at a staggering 71% among non-Orthodox Jews and 58% overall. Forty years ago, the figure was 17%. Two-thirds don’t belong to a synagogue, a quarter say they don’t believe in God, and — somehow this one shocks me the most — a full third of American Jews had a Christmas tree in their home last year.

When I go to a website, I do not expect to be assaulted by unwanted noise or commercials.  Why must Ricochet follow lesser websites and thrust noise at its members?  I thought that by joining Ricochet, I was joining a better website that does not abuse its members. Gary Robbins Preview Open

Those evil republicans….shutting down the government…..stealing the food from a baby’s mouth….shutting down air traffic control with planes flying into the sky willy nilly….not raising the flag over the old post office tomorrow morning…. ashes and sackcloth. the end is nigh !! And that’s the good stuff.  The media is going to uncover this crime […]

The most powerful word in any negotiation is “no.” Since most people desire resolution, the word “no” is jarring, perhaps even unsettling. As a litigator there have been times when I felt like I had a better hand, such that in a mediation when the other side made a settlement offer or demand I simply […]
