OK, so we’ve read the reports, we’ve watched the pundits, we’ve skimmed through a few hundred pages of Supreme gibberish before realizing we have more important things to do like take out the trash… We know what we think. We’ve given this some thought. We know why we think it. But you know this is […]

I’m a little hungover from yesterday’s news binge. Likely, most of us are. And though the thought of talking about ACA makes me want to throw up a little, I’ll indulge in a little hair-of-the-dog if you will. I know we’re not quite at single payer yet, but really, does anyone doubt that it’s coming […]

I would hate to see the government routinely employ its new power to mandate participation in commerce. This new power should probably be given a mocking name and some Tea Party Congressmen should sponsor tongue in cheek tax bills to deride it. Perhaps a tax penalty for not purchasing Starbucks Indivisible Blend (did you know […]

I don’t know about y’all, but my RINOmeter is on high alert whenever I listen to our candidate pledge to “repeal” Obamacare his first day in office. Now, to me, repeal means the Congress of the United States passes a one page piece of legislation saying that the Affordable Care Act is null and void. […]

Having recently watched the excellent docudrama The Kennedys, it struck me that the Democratic Party has moved a million miles from JFK’s Democrats and half-a-million even from RFK’s more compassionate party. Hawkish, rich and tax-cutting are three qualities in bad odor with BHO’s Democrats. Leading from behind, spreading the wealth and getting the Supreme Court […]

In the rubble of our freedoms that is the Roberts betrayal, everyone more or less has resigned themselves to the fact that government now pretty much has unlimted power to micromanage our lives as long as they toss “tax” in the paperwork somewhere. And as a result, the conventional wisdom seems to be “well, we’ll […]

Is Al Sharpton the most shameless man in the universe? Is there a train wreck he doesn’t show up at? Yes, he’s speaking at Rodney King’s funeral.  I’m certain it will be a nice little reflection on the goodness of God in our lives–no politics will intrude. More

Contributor Post Created with Sketch. Young Doctors Going Galt

Late this week, I emailed a young, talented friend who has been interning with doctors and preparing to take the MCATs late this summer. I asked him when his MCAT was scheduled. Below, his response:

As far as the MCAT… I almost kinda feel like I should wait out this whole Obamacare thing first. I went to drop off a volunteer application at Dominican Hospital today and the sounds of physicians’ heads hitting their desks echoed through the halls. On one hand, I’m sure the already meager influx of medical professionals combined with the forthcoming mass retirement helps my chances at Med School. On the other hand, people are quoting near 20% pay cuts for new doctors (or all doctors?) and other grim predictions. Could be overreaction to something new though.

Yeah, I know.  It would never happen, and I’m not sure I would really want it to happen. However, can you imagine if Mitt Romney picked Rand Paul as his vice presidential candidate. 1. Here’s a guy that can represent the Constitutional, Tea Party, limited government views with some actual debating and educational skills. What other […]

Heard this story on Weekend Edition this morning, and was struck by the following statement: “we’ve had deals where students have basically been robbed.” The context was the Congressional deal to keep student loan rates artificially low, apparently paid for in part by eliminating interest deferrals. There you have it–cutting a federal benefit is robbery. Apparently, the […]

Walter Duranty was a reporter for the NY Times during Stalin’s 1930s purges and the Ukrainian famine. He reported favorably of the Soviet Union and covered up the famine. Robert Conquest believed that “Duranty was being blackmailed by the Soviet secret police…” More

I’ve started to post or comment three times now and cancelled each one. I’m going to hold my fire. But I’ve got to vent just a little, so I can simmer a while longer: If Chief Justice Roberts acted to protect the legitimacy and integrity of his Court, he picked a way to do it […]

I recently started reading Rawhide Down: The Near Assassination of Ronald Reagan, by Del Quentin Wilber. So far the book is fascinating. Wilber tells some great stories about that famous Reagan humor and charm that endears you to him. Also fascinating is the story of Jerry Parr, the Secret Service agent in charge of Reagan’s […]

I listened to the Ricochet podcast on the Decision. I read the blogs that desperately sifted the Obamacare ruling for anything positive. I heard respectable people say and write that Roberts really helped freedom if only we could catch his winks and nods. But…He hurt us.He hurt the country. One radio host I highly respect tried […]

So, the ruling on the ACA came down yesterday, and I haven’t said thing one on Ricochet about it. Some of us are more directly affected by it than others, it may directly impact your loved ones in a major way. Some of us are less directly affected, but it hits all of us one […]
