Naked Ladies

Back in the bad old days, publications such as Playboy exploited women by presenting erotic photos of them for the titillation and gratification of men. Now, thanks to the efforts of women’s groups, when famous females appear in magazines without their clothes, it’s a sign of their empowerment. They’re proud of their bodies, and they want to make their own decisions.

If that seems a bit confusing to you, let me explain. Well, actually, I can’t. It appears to be mostly a matter of what year you decided to strip for the cameras. Before the women’s movement, it was exploitation; afterwards, it was empowerment.Well, at least men are still gratified and titillated.

Some things never change.

It’s so bizarre how feminism today teaches women to turn themselves into sex kittens. Crazily popular shows, whose audiences are 99% women, and which boast a feminist message–like the play The Vagina Monologues and TV shows like Sex and the City, Grey’s Anatomy etc–all tell women that though they are powerful and successful, they are still defined primarily by sex.

    Some men…

With all the noise that gays make, one might wonder how many men even care anymore.

Often, that’s about all young celebrities have to offer. That’s the saddest part.

Years ago, when I read that Susan Sarandon would be posing proudly at a ripe old age of […well, whatever it was], my first thought was that her children or grandchildren were probably not as excited.

I’ll have to ask Rubber Duckie if she feels empowered when I stand in the door of her closet/dressing room staring at her.
