A New Inane Liberal Proposal for Ending Gun Violence in Seattle

One for the “You’ve got to be kidding” file, except Dow Constantine is not kidding.  These are real proposals to reduce the skyrocketing level of “gun violence” in the Seattle area, italics mine.  [via KOMO]

So far this month there have been 10 homicides in unincorporated King County.

The emergency budget would invest close to $1.5 million for more case managers and life coaches to build relationships in communities including White Center, Kent and Burien.

None so blind as those who will not see. It’s staggering how the left can simply refuse to acknowledge reality, and these days it seems like any reality.

It would serve the function of providing well-paying jobs to over-educated and over-credentialed individuals without any remunerative skills. You kn0w – the type of drones that vote reliably Democrat.

Let me ask you this: Does King County already have “case managers” and “life coaches”?  How well is it working out now?  If not, why do they think more will help?

I wouldn’t be surprised if some of the homicides were case managers walking into the middle of a drug deal . . .

I would hope that those case managers and life coaches are fitted with protective gear and that they are well trained in the techniques of duck-and-cover, not to mention the low crawl.

When you can rationalize Stalin it’s a small step to this nonsense. Honestly, I have to admire the commitment to appeal to a better nature. The problem is that it likely isn’t rooted in something well meaning, but in a refusal to admit failure of their chosen policies.

“OK, their gang shot at one of your members so you want to go shoot at some of their members. Rather than doing that, why don’t we try repeating some positive affirmations . . .”

Once again, Government substituting for the missing fathers.  Kids join gangs due to no father in the home.

“Sorry, kid, we don’t have any Dads to spare right now, but we do have one excellent case manager.  Your appointment is next Thursday at 2:00PM, on the second floor of the King County Courthouse in downtown Seattle.  We apologize for the gauntlet of homeless people outside, ready to assault you on your way in.”

One thing Republicans might try to do is to get local legislation passed such that all programs over a quarter of a million bucks get audited.

Of course, it has to be a forensic physical audit.

There are accounting firms that do this for local governments. It is easy to establish which ones actually do decent audits and which ones might be in the employ of officials trying to cover things up.

Great idea, except that Republicans in King County WA are not found anywhere except as missing persons on milk cartons.

Our political choices hereabouts are among the Left, the far Left and the beyond the fringe Communist Left.

If it were not for my only family ties being here, and having put down our roots here for nearly half a century, I’d be gone.

Could perhaps, just perhaps, freedom/liberty be more important?

Mark Steyn used to say – and maybe still does – that in the UK, a “balanced” panel on some BBC talk show, would have one person from the left, one person from the far left, and one person from the lunatic left.

And when I lived in Arizona, occasionally – before it became “incorrect” to do so – the local media would note that people coming to Arizona from California supposedly fleeing gang violence, would tend to very quickly either join or start a gang, because it’s what they knew.

As far as I know, no one has raised the issue of changing the name of that low-class town in south King County.  It has been known as a crime and gang haven for at least 40 years.

I’m sure it’s because they feel totally oppressed just living in a place with such a horrible name.

The term ‘gun violence’ is intellectually dishonest.  The problem is ‘violence’, specifically ‘homicidal violence’, and the gun is simple one method by which such is conducted.  There is certainly fungibility to some degree: if Gang A wants to go after Gang B, and no guns are (magically) available, they will likely find some other way of doing so.

The Middle Ages, prior to the introduction of firearms, were not a notably peaceful period.

We have been in Lake County Ca for only 15 years and we are determined to leave.

But even though none in our family live here, each  week I encounter  the friends, the neighbors, the acquaintances. How can we leave these people behind?

I hope they were more specific about this.

There are a lot of types of relationships:  Parent-child is one kind. Murderer-victim is another. Abusive spouse-battered spouse is another. It is not clear how “case managers” and “life coaches” are able to build any of these types of relationship, but it is very clear that they shouldn’t build some of them.

It does sound like a win for the “case manager-life coach” demographic.

Social-worker Protection Act.  Most of the money for any welfare program goes to hire social-workers.
