Quote of the Day: Responsibility
“Responsibility without authority is slavery.” – Rollo Tomassi
This is a quote that cuts to the heart of what is wrong with Critical Race Theory. It assigns responsibility for actions to those who did not perform them while simultaneously denying those with responsibility for “fixing” the problem the authority to do so. All you can do is admit fault, accept guilt, and do what your masters demand of you. Isn’t that the very definition of slavery – of being a slave?
Is it a wonder that Democrats support CRT? This is the party that stripped the franchise from minorities and women. It is the party that championed slavery, and when they failed at maintaining their peculiar institution attempted to back door it through segregation and discrimination. And who today are reinstituting both in the name of equality.
This also makes the point that today’s conservative is actually a classical liberal. They are trying to conserve classical liberal values: equality before the law, equality of opportunity (not outcomes), and limited government with powers granted by the will of the people. The “progressives” are really trying to bring back medieval feudalism, with all the inequality that system entailed.

Yes. The proponents of CRT and anti-racism are also fond of demanding that white people “do the work” without compensation.
Amen, brother! Preach it!
The terms “liberal” and “progressive”, when referring to the current crew operating under those names, should always include the quotation marks.

Brilliant.
High praise from the king of brilliant.
Glen Loury and John McWhorter have been going at it from a different angle–the new religion assigns moral responsibility on white people and ultimately denies agency for black people. “Systemic” racism cannot be cured as long as there are any ties to history, law, culture, and language so guilt is eternal barring complete societal breakdown and collective amnesia. Thus blacks should not try because it is already rigged against them. Forever. The best they can do is elect leftists who will redistribute.
… and thus the gurus of Black Studies will always have a gig.
Thanks! But that’s not my quote. Just for the record…
Is there a real-life Rollo Tomassi? Wasn’t that the pseudonym of the villain from L.A. Confidential?
He’s the author of The Rational Male.
An old-school PUA is quoted on the Main Feed. Next thing you know, people will start throwing around the term hypergamy.
Ricochet is entering adolescence early. Gets me a little misty-eyed.
You’re right and I never heard him say this
The words speak for themselves. I even use Jonah Goldberg quotes once in a while, even though he has become unmoored from reality since speaking the quotes I have used or plan to use in the future.
You’ve misunderstood the sense of my comment.
True
With a quick search I can’t find anything on Rollo Tomassi with a date on it, except his 2013 book. Even the “About” on his website TheRationalMale.com has only what I take to be poetry. The character Rolo Tomasi was from 1997, so it looks like the author Tomassi took that name from the movie as a nom de plume.
Authority without responsibility is tyranny.
Which describes much of America’s ruling institutions.
