Dispatch from the Totalitarian State of Washington
This morning, there are three stories on the KOMO Web site that should make every Washingtonian worried and angry. This state is turning into a very difficult place for any free person to live. First on the agenda is the fully-expected riots based on the upcoming verdict in the trial of ex-police officer Derek Chauvin in Minneapolis. The local director of a police advisory commission was interviewed, on what she expects to happen when the verdict is reached. Here’s the definitive quote from the article:
Nervous all day, pit in my stomach, just very unsettled,” said Victoria Beach, the SPD African American Community Advisory Chair. “If he is let off, this city could burn down.”
Note that choice of phrasing. The city could burn down. All by itself? Probably not, and I believe that the organization is getting its incendiary materials ready now.
The second interesting story relates to the Wuhan Coronavirus epidemic. The story purports to evaluate the difference in responses to the virus, in Washington versus Texas. The article does accurately note the much lower “case rate” in Texas versus Washington, even though Washington has had a statewide mask mandate since July of 2020. However, the Health Nazis can’t have that, so they opine that “case rate” is not what should be taken into account when evaluating the two states-they must find statistics that fit the narrative.
In Washington, the deaths-per-100,000 is 70, according to the CDC, whereas in Texas, the deaths-per-100,000 is 167.
The percent of occupied hospital beds by COVID patients:
- In Washington state is 5.5 percent.
- In Texas, the rate is 6.2 percent.
The third story here in Washington says that our county, Snohomish, is “likely to regress to Phase Two” in the next week, due to increased Covid “cases”. Hey, you SnoCo residents, back in your cages! Hey, restaurants and retail establishments, more worries of bankruptcy when you can only allow 25% occupancy. School outdoor sports will also be canceled, further ruining the lives of many children. It feels more like tyranny every day. I really do feel sorry for the Seattle residents and businesses who will have their buildings burned down and livelihoods threatened by the riots they know are coming, but can’t do anything about.

As my wife has said all along, at this point, it doesn’t matter what George Floyd died of. It really doesn’t.
Associated Press just announced the jury has reached a verdict. It will be ready in open court this afternoon between 3:30 and 4:00pm Central.
I hope it’s Not Guilty, and that the jurors all liquidated their Minnesota property holdings – if they aren’t renters – beforehand.
My daughters are planning a fall trip to Washington -SeaTac – to visit several parks in the area , including Mt. Ranier. I think we are only stepping foot into Seattle the night before we fly home. I hope sanity has returned by then. Our first choice was Calgary but we gave up on Canada. I also have Yosemite, Grand Canyon, and Yellowstone on my bucket list.
It would be interesting to see what would happen if the jury finds him guilty as charged. Possibly the celebration in jubilation would be impossible to discern from an angry riot.
oh, Seattle is one city that absolutely deserves to be burned to the ground. Maybe toss in some private residences as well, right? The reality, here, is that most of these riots are started by people who live in other parts of the city… college-aged idiots coming downtown with their black outfits and whatever else. Seattle is antifa (which, at this point, in this part of the world, is not meaningfully different from BLM), and its loss would be a self-destruction more than anything else. This is what 99% of the people in Seattle are outright demanding, and I just hope their houses are included in the mayhem so they can have a little taste of what they’re wishing on everyone else.
As for covid – it won’t stop until we actively push back. If they tell Snohomish to “go back,” business owners need to respond with “yeah, we’ll get right on that.” I was down in Pasco this weekend for a baseball tournament. Strict covid requirements… masks on everyone, kids included, strict distancing requirements, etc… the rules were sent out to every team before the tournament started. There was less than 5% compliance, and that is being generous. People know they have been lied to, and at some point they will just start ignoring it. Granted, we are still a bunch of pathetic cowards who still allow this executive overreach and blatantly illegal action on the part of our government… but the government is becoming a joke for people to ignore.
[interestingly, at the baseball tournament, there was one team with 100% mask compliance, kids included. That team came from Portland.]
Seattle is one big homeless camp, and it has been that way for a few years at least. There is no sanity to return.
Well I’ve been saying that for months, and not for just this case: They riot in protest if they lose, and they riot in celebration if they win.

Well these days it certainly can’t be unexpected.
Pierce County was put back to level 2 last week. Today they report 207 new cases of Covid. Frankly, I don’t believe that these are active cases, but there is no way to verify it. They also reported 3 deaths, two men in their 70s and a third in his 80s. It would seem that it is no longer necessary to read the obituaries. Anyone who dies gets reported as a Covid death. I have reached a level of cynicism about this whole thing. I am fortunate in being retired and living in an area where my only masking is when I go shopping. Otherwise, hours spent riding my bike around the area is done maskless. I do have an KN-95 mask in my back pocket in case I need one, but that has never happened. For the most part my neighbors all seem to be going about their lives unaffected by any of this nonsense. There is something surreal about what I am hearing about the situation in Seattle, 45 miles away. It is like another world, a different dimension. I have seen a few stickers in car windows that proudly state “F— Inslee!” of course the actual word is spelled out. I give them a thumbs up whenever I can catch the eye of the driver. I think we are all a little sick of this fantasy and are ready to return to regular life where criminals and rioters are punished and presidents don’t denigrate the country by calling it systemically racist.

Unfortunately you seem to be greatly outnumbered by those who wish to kneel in the presence of Inslee.
I don’t care about us, if we get pushed back to Phase 2, but I worry about the small stores and restaurants not being able to cover their costs at 25% occupancy (which figure is totally arbitrary!). I only wear a mask now at my “personal service” places like hair and nail salon. And Costco, since they have checkers at the entrance (although I drop it to my chin once I’m inside). The city-dwellers and suburbanites of our area are nearly 100% compliant. Yesterday I made a Winco run to the store 5 blocks from home, no mask from the minute I went in until I left, and not one person commented, or told me to put one on. I am going to start taking selfies inside stores as a record. I despise Inslee, but I also am getting very annoyed that NONE of the other people in my county seem to see the problem with being required to go about in disguise everywhere, and maybe forever. They just do whatever the governor tells them to do, and think that protects them from getting sick. The rising case numbers give the lie to that.
This would be a better year to visit Yellowstone or the Grand Canyon. Neither WY nor AZ is run by a tinhorn dictator.
If you decide to visit WA, get in your rental car at SeaTac and immediately head south to Mt. Rainier. Don’t go north into Seattle; it’ll just make you alternately sad and angry.
Or you could come to my house and I’ll cook dinner for you.
