Quote of the Day: The Right Trousers
‘They can tak’ oour lives but they cannae tak’ oour troousers!’ – The Wee Free Men, by Terry Pratchett.
The Wee Free Men, be it rightly said, is another one of those books that I am a shameless recommender of – and the first in a sequence of what are called children’s books (but actually have an awful lot to them). They feature – well, you will see what it is they’re featurin’ – but I dinnae think it’s givin’ too much away to say that it includes fairies (nay, pictsies) whose swords, so it is said, glow blue in the presence of lawyers, and who really appreciate the importance of freeeedoooom!
And who appreciate, furthermore, that freedom, as with so many other things, sometimes comes down to defending your trousers. (And readin’ really guid books! I can recommend a wee few, if ye’re so inclined …)

Trousers?
Noo stop tha’, ye’re going to get us all kilt!
Exactly. Freeeedooom!
Ach, we’re in trouble noo!
I had a brief nap and dreamed of the knockers.
Fetch my fighting trousers
Fetch my fighting trousers
[Editing out duplicate video. Just one pair of trousers will suffice, thank you.
I am SOOO not following up on that ….

This is the Quote of the Day. Our sign-up sheet for April is here and there are several days still available. We welcome new participants and new members to Ricochet to share their favorite quotations.
Another ongoing project to encourage new voices is our Group Writing Project. April’s theme is ‘April’s Showers Bring….‘ If you’re looking to share your own thoughts rather than those of others, please sign up for Group Writing too!
As often happens, a post on Ricochet reminds me of something I haven’t thought about for over half-a-century….
Ach, if they run me in, Ah’m turnin’ Queen’s Evidence! Ah’ll be oot by teatime!
I like the Elvis impersonation in the middle.
Where’s your sense of adventure?
It’s innocent enough:
Terry Pratchett AND Wallace and Gromit?!
I am not worthy…
It’s a fine day, indeed!
Ach, all part of the service, ye ken.
Well, in addition to Pratchett and W & G, it was your Scottish slang that reeled me in this morning.
Daargh! The puns, the puns: What ha’ I unleashed?!
The usual.
And now I have this inexplicable urge to rewatch previous seasons of Outlander. (I know, I know, don’t say it. LOL)
Oh, that’s right, isn’t it. Carry on!
You don’t want to do that — now I’m going to have to do another Quote of the Day for a TV series. In the meantime, maybe have a look for The Librarians, featuring, among others, Noah Wyle and Bob Newhart. (There’s also the original three TV movies, which I’m quite fond of — a very fortunate discovery.)
Terry Pratchett is most likely one of the most prolific successful subversive author of recent times.
You’re so right – I don’t want to do that. I can never get those (wasted) hours back!
Thanks for the reco on The Librarians, I’ll check it out.
Since we’re taking TV, what are your thoughts on Doctor Who?
I can’t help but admire the soppiness of someone who comes up with Gaspode the Wonder Dog.
Most welcome. It’s a lot of fun, if it’s your cup of tea. I can’t say I’ve ever felt the call of Doctor Who — just not one of those ones that appeals to me.
Says you.
