QotD – Morality
Morality is simply the attitude we adopt towards people whom we personally dislike. – Oscar Wilde
This quote sums up the essence of Wokism. It is weaponized morality. Define everything as a moral absolute and use it as a club to beat those you dislike with. After all, if they are immoral, then you can dismiss them as not quite human.
It also explains a lot of the behavior of the anti-Trump movement. They personally disliked Trump. He was not their kind, dear. To them he was uncouth and crude. Lacking policy issues with which to disagree (since he was the most conservative President since Reagan and possibly Coolidge) they seized on morality as the reason he was so objectionable. All the while ignoring the immorality and criminality of Trump’s political opponents – because they did not personally dislike those people. Joe? He’s everybody’s friend.
The greatest irony is those most fixated on the morality of others – especially those they personally dislike – are more than willing to overlook or ignore the moral failings of their friends, and most of all, themselves. They are not righteous. They are self-righteous.

Not naming any names, but, by Jove, I think you have it, sir!
Fantastic post.
Short, sweet and excellent! I’m continually amazed at the lengths people will go to, to slam others and then use moral charges. Oh, please. Isn’t there something in the New Testament about plucking something out of one’s eye? (Sorry if I’ve messed that up.)
Matthew 7:5: Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother’s eye.
That’s it, Arahant. I think that works here.
Luke 18:11-12 applies to a lot of them, The Pharisee stood by himself and prayed, ‘God, I thank You that I am not like the other men—swindlers, evildoers, adulterers—or even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week and pay tithes of all that I acquire.’
There’s a daily puzzle page at work. Last week’s theme was Peaceful Artist’s Models, a punny take on classical music composers (Calm Posers). One day’s clue was Tiny particle’s painting. On a thread for discussing the puzzle, one person indirectly referenced this verse as a hint. A few people still didn’t get it and needed further hints. I’ll wait to post the answer but hopefully people will get it.
I love it.
Sorry about the thread hijacking. Here are the other four days.
Concealin’ oneself
Doorknob or grip
Display skillet
“Go away, dude!”
I groaned at that one.
The real problem is the brain hijacking. Now I have “Eine Kleine Nachtmusik” stuck in my head.
Well, not everybody’s. It is, actually, possible to look at Biden and be repelled; for his hypocrisy, his mendaciousness, his decades-long corruption, and his staggering lack of authenticity.
I will confess that I don’t get much of a warm and fuzzy feeling when I look at Donald Trump either. But I do think that Trump, who’s also given to making things up as he goes along and telling the occasional whopper is, if not substantially more honest than Biden, at least more direct in his dissimulation, and in office was less harmful for it, and he certainly had a better grip on the issues of the day and what to do about most of them.
I can’t think of a political figure I’d describe myself as in personal “like” with. I think there are a few with some potential, but we’ll have to see.

To bring this back on topic, I called my wife this morning to clarify an appointment time this afternoon. She told me about a Facebook argument she was involved in. Someone posted an article about the reluctance of people getting the Wu Flu vaccination. She commented that if nothing changes and people still have to wear masks it’s not encouraging people to get it. She was told then to not get the vaccine and that fewer people like her around would be a good thing.
Everyone knew who Joe really was. This is what the anti-Trump movement really supported:
Mote’s Art?(for Mozart?)
Correct. How about the others? Wanna try those, or just say, “Shoo, man!”
Cocealin’ oneself- hidin’( Hyden-? Spelling?)
Doorknob or grip-Handle( Handel)
Display skillet- show pan( Chopin)
Not enough groans for that one
“Go away, dude!”- Shoo , man! ( Schumann?)
Yep, that’s the set.
