Did You Know There’s a Propaganda War Going On?

Hearing so many in right-world harrumph in unison about the new propaganda war is heartening. I guess. From Jim Eagle laws in Georgia to pay-for-play in Florida to nothing-to-see-here in NY nursing homes, it’s clear that many on the right have decided that it’s time to think about getting out of bed to clean house a bit.

You see, the media has just started a 24/7 propaganda campaign acting as an arm of the progressive political movement. That’s right, this new development is suddenly more dangerous than the baseline of regular old bias we’ve been familiar with for so many decades. Because now a decidedly ordinary and non-racist voter reform law is being vilified unfairly to the tune of 30-some percent disapproval (more than enough, apparently to get major corporations to declare their fealty publicly and with their bottom lines on the line).

Just think how popular this would be without the constant hysterical propaganda, then MLB wouldn’t have had to burn so much customer goodwill. This new discovery of a propaganda campaign in the open and in overdrive is surprising. Hold on, I’m experiencing some big-league deja vu. Let me recover on my sofa for a moment before I continue. Ok, that’s better…. nope deja vu still going. Maybe I’d just better get used to it.

I’m glad that our guys are finally mostly awake and stretching so that at any moment now they will jump out of bed and spring into action. Any time now, just after they rub their eyes a little longer maybe. I’m looking forward to all of those productive Senate Committee Hearings and wicked Fox rants from the latest young US Representative star. Perhaps we’ll see some well-done fundraising materials too. Ooh, and I hope they don’t forget the killer appearances on the Sunday shows so they can be interviewed by someone like George Stephanopoulos (don’t I know him somehow from his time before becoming a journal— no, sorry I can’t finish that without guffawing).

Ben Shapiro, still wrong about counter boycotts and making them feel their complicity where it hurts, is at least trying to put up by starting alternatives to the woke corporations. Good luck, Ben. Can’t wait to fly your airline, drink your cola, watch your baseball league, open a checking account at your bank, and use your internet. Mitch McConnell is issuing strongly worded warnings to corporations to butt out of policy. Watch out Delta – Mitch is going to frown in your direction. Briefly. No, seriously, watch out or you might miss his facial rebuke.

Anyway, I’m glad that the propaganda is apparent and new. There’s no telling what might have happened if this propaganda campaign had been going on and we didn’t do anything to counter it, or, God forbid, sometimes join it. \Shudder\

Since the 2020 election it’s been a constant drumbeat of openly false reporting; the legacy media is like listening to Soviet era TASS reporting and leftie politicians lie like Baghdad Bob.  I don’t remember it ever being this bad in my lifetime.

    Who, meeee?

Nah, just bitter indifference. I can’t take seriously anyone who thinks that this propaganda effort actually is new to 2021, that we didn’t see it emerge somewhere around 2014 or so in this new, radical, hysterical, and open version. IRS scandal, Benghazi scandal, Hillary emails/server scandal, Michelle Fields, Russia Collusion Hoax, Russia Collusion Hoax, Russia Collusion Hoax, Charlottesville Fine People Hoax, Covington Catholic, Kavanaugh the gang rapist, Ukraine nonsense, Kids in Cages phoniness, Hunter Biden Coverup, Covid Politically-Motivated Hysteria/Authoritarianism, Nursing Home deaths coverup, Mostly Peaceful Destructive BLM and CHAZ/CHOP and Antifa protests, Election Irregularity Coverup, Insurrection Puffery.

I heard someone ask today how popular the Georgia election reform would be absent the hysterical propaganda. That same person consistently failed to have the same thought for the last five years when it came to tweets and simply turning people off.

Nope. Conservative media is basically samizdat.

How’s this for propaganda success: discussing George Floyd with people recently I brought up the autopsy. No neck damage or evidence of asphyxiation; the cause of death was cardiopulmonary arrest complicating law enforcement subdual, restraint, and neck compression. So normal subdual during the arrest led to cardiac arrest. Why? Because he OD’d, that’s why. Seems obvious from the video to me.

What was the response from these otherwise smart not-radical-lefty people I was talking to? Yeah, but still….. this that and the other thing. Anything except the relevant questions: did Chauvin’s kneeling kill Floyd? Did Chauvin intend to kill Floyd or did Chauvin act negligently? No, no, and no. Doesn’t matter because the die was cast in the Summer of 2020 by the propaganda machine and the cowards who let it all blow up and keep burning all year. It’s almost like they can’t even conceive of a conclusion that doesn’t involve Chauvin being at fault. It should at least be a debatable question dependent on my questions above, shouldn’t it? Yes, that propaganda machine works alright.

Part of that is because the left has politicized everything. There isn’t an escape anymore.

Which might be why I read old books and watch old tv shows.

I suspect that so many of our Republican “leaders” will quite willingly join McConnell in casting a frown right back at Delta, the MLB, and Coke. Especially right before the 2022 election.

Has anyone seen Durham? His barber was expecting him for a beard and mustache trim, but he never showed. Must be building his report and typing up all those subpoena’s. Maybe he’s traveled to Moscow to try to find the hooker-urine bedsheets that are key to the whole caper.

Who Is John Durham, the Prosecutor Investigating the ...

No propaganda involved in any of that business.

Good thing Barr declared no election irregularity on his way out the door. I can imagine that the investigation involved must have been as massive as… what there was no actual investigation? Oh. So all those “journalists” who point to that statement as some kind of proof are just being disingenuous tools of the propaganda machine? Oh.

I’m thinking the spin started revving up to eleventy mode back in the Bill Clinton impeachment era, when we learned from our betters that it is just perfectly OK for the highest elected official in the land to blatantly lie, under oath, in a federal court proceeding, because, as the media never tired of telling us, it was just about sex, and everybody lies about sex.

This is not new.  It has been going on for decades.  I’m always happy to see conservatives realizing what is going on, and I don’t want to be overly critical of people who didn’t notice sooner.  It is good that more people are noticing now.

Back in 2010, Arizona passed a law called SB1070, to fight illegal immigration.  There were a series of boycotts.

The same thing happened in the late 1980s and early 1990s, when an Arizona governor cancelled the MLK day holiday, and a referendum failed to reinstate it.  There was another series of boycotts.  That particular governor was even recalled.  Because, apparently, neither he nor our state was willing to bow to the Black Power agenda.

And yes, I know that MLK was not, himself, a Black Power miscreant.  His central message about race was very positive.  But he took controversial stands on other issues, flirting with socialism and opposing the Vietnam War, and he reportedly had quite serious personal failings with adultery (and worse, according to some reports).  He was not alone in that failure, of course — the late, great Ravi Zacharias comes to mind.

This is the problem with the pundit class and the politicians, they think that this is still a Marquis of Queensbury fight with rules they understand. It isn’t and it hasn’t been for a long time. Andrew Breitbart really saw this long ago and realized that politics is downstream from culture and the fight we must make is a cultural one. I’m not convinced that the Sorab Amari approach is correct as I don’t think that enforcing culture from the govt will work, but conservatives can no longer just assume that it’s OK to ignore the effect of the culture wars. Take as one example the idea of chosen pronouns and that polite people should use the pronouns a person chooses for themselves. That is a form of cultural aggression that forces you to cede their argument by painting it as being polite while they are anything but polite to your views. That is one, very small, example of this conflict we are losing.

The trouble is, leftists have no hesitation about using the levers of government to impose their worldviews on everyone. So conservatives need to yank those levers rightward if only to keep the enemy from yanking them leftward.

Don’t think of it as enforcing conservatism. Think of it as protecting us from leftism. (See for example legislation in several states to save children from transgender surgery. That’s a good thing.)
