White House Pastry Chef Resigns, Michelle ‘Partly to Blame’

School children aren’t the only ones recoiling from Michelle Obama’s healthy food initiatives. White House executive pastry chef Bill Yosses has resigned, with the New York Times claiming that Michelle is “partly to blame.”

An accomplished New York chef, Yosses was originally hired by Laura Bush to make his famed sugar art, fruit soufflés and cookie plates. But when Michelle took over, she instructed the dessert master to make healthier treats and smaller portions. She also strictly reduced the number of desserts served to the first family.

According to the Times, Yosses replaced butter with fruit purées, replaced sugar with honey and agave, and replaced modern flour with whole grain and heirloom versions.

“I don’t want to demonize cream, butter, sugar and eggs,” Yosses said. He added that the departure was “a bittersweet decision.”

Mrs. Obama released a statement saying she is “incredibly sad to see Bill Yosses go.” She also said: “I am also so grateful to him for his outstanding work, not just as the White House pastry chef, producing the most delectable creations for everything from birthday celebrations to state visits, but also as a key partner helping us get the White House kitchen garden off the ground and building a healthier future for our next generation.”

In lieu of parting gifts, I recommend sending donuts, cupcakes and cookies to Sasha and Malia.

I eagerly await the day when the AMA announces that a healthy diet needs to include things like butter, sugar, and eggs.  Also, rather than having the chef alter his menu to make less tasty items, why not have some personal responsibility and just get yourself a smaller portion?  Or does Michele not have enough self-control?

It’s a Progressive thing. Self-Control implies personal responsibility for one’s actions. For Progressives, it’s always someone else’s responsibility for one’s condition, and the remedy is the Nanny State. So now we have the First Nag.

Leaving a White House gig – must have been really, really tough because that would be a dream job for most chefs.

We’re paying (or we were) for a freakin’ healthy pastry chef? What’s the point?

    Oh wait there’s more:

The New York Times is reporting that Bill Yosses, the White House’s executive pastry chef, is leaving in June for New York — partly to be with his husband, and partly to put together “a group and foundation of like-minded creative people” for promoting healthy food in schools. Here’s more from the Times on Yosses’ evolution from butter and cream to berries and whole grains:

Perhaps Michelle, like her husband, thinks that she’d be a better pastry chef than the WH pastry chef. It must be insufferable to live there……….

Who knew that after five long years, the pastry chef would be the only one from the WH with enough integrity to resign.

Reading the actual article is helpful. If we take him at his word, he doesn’t sound like  a man fleeing because he can’t use butter and cream. He says he has made plenty of the traditional pastries for White House functions and is leaving to move near his husband and will be promoting healthier food. There is plenty to disagree with these guys about. Do we really need to jump all over the pastry chef leaving?

Any excuse to “jump on” the Obamas is a good one.

Well, it turns out that there’s no problem with butter and eggs. The sugar is problematic, though.

I have a fantastic idea:  How about Michelle Obama gets in the kitchen and cooks her own food, just like hundreds of millions of other Americans?  After all, the Obamas are supposedly more in touch with the common man (and womyn) than those evil Republicans, who use illegal immigrants paid just one shiny nickel per day to roast alive the minority babies they feast upon. So there should be no problem for them to behave like the common people they claim to champion, and the American taxpayers can save the hundreds of thousands of dollars in annual salaries for the gourmet chefs by making their own meals.  I say to the Obamas: Let them bake cake.

Woody Allen beat you to this in Sleeper, a movie that looks more prophetic every day.
