Dr. Jay Goes Lib
Herewith, our own Dr. Jay Bhattacharya in a discussion with that uber liberal, Naomi Wolf. I note that, whereas during his most recent appearances with us here on Ricochet, Dr. Jay goes tieless–see, for example, this week’s Ricochet Podcast–here he wears both a tie and a jacket. But he’s so ineffably charming here that we’ll let that pass.

I’d like to think he is among friends here, Peter. He doesn’t need to get all dressed up for us. Looking forward to watching this.
Wasn’t Naomi Wolf the one who told beta-male Al Gore to wear brown suits? Something like that… Maybe Prof J (not to be confused with our beloved and misplaced first Dr. Jay) was concerned about her being judgmental about his attire? Speaking of “Prof Jay,” as he’s called in the YouTube title, why is he, an MD and PhD, called Professor (which he is, too), while Jill Biden who has the a doctorate in Education (not even a PhD) called Doctor???
That as really terrific! Jay (if I may use that informal an address) is always incredible, a truly remarkable human being. What surprised me was how open Naomi Wolf was to his ideas. Unlike so many on the left, she was fully ready to hear and agree with Jay’s ideas. She, obviously, has done her homework and isn’t buying the Fauci Kool-aid.
I was particularly struck with the concept that those currently in charge of the “science” are largely immunologists and epidemiologists, not public health physicians. I happened to have worked very closely with the school nurse in my building when I was teaching. She was one of two truly great people I knew who did that job. There were many years between knowing her and the other school nurse who I knew very near to the beginning of my career. In the interim the majority of nurses I worked with were far from exemplary. The great ones were very aware of public health in the way that Jay presents it. They, of course, possessed the ability to handle emergencies as any RN would, but more than that, they were aware of how disease can effect the population of a building with more than a thousand people present throughout the day. It is a very different perspective from someone working in a lab or in some high seat of government who isn’t in direct contact with the population about which he/she is pontificating. Jay has that perspective, clearly.
The other thing that struck me was in how Jay recommended people should be spoken to. He is a perfect foil to that deteriorating fool who now sits at the apex of our government and chooses to call governors of at least two states Neanderthals becauses they are attempting to follow Jay’s prescription.
I don’t think anyone on this site will find anything to disagree with in this video, either from Jay or Naomi. I just wish that those poor benighted souls on the left and those inbetween would watch it as well.
Naomi had been consistently a voice of reason from the liberal (not left) side of the aisle. Her focus has been more societal/ government over reach than medical
She’s been a great follow on Twitter and was on Tucker last week.
Thanks to Peter for highlighting this.
It seems Naomi Wolf may have started to reexamine her worldview. I wonder if she may have been brought up short by the traumatic experience she must have had when a very fundamental error in her recent book on supposed legal persecution of homosexuals in England was exposed in a very public forum.
Guardian Article on the public discrediting of Naomi’s book
I will listen to the Ricochet podcast first but I’m happy to listen to interviews or panels where Dr. Jay speaks. He’s become one of my favorite people to listen in a very short period of time.
Does this count as Naomi Wolf actually “being” on Ricochet?
Naomi Wolf used to be crazy?
Her questions are longer than Jay’s answers.
I suspect that it’s a sign that she is being confronted with a “new” (to her) way of thinking, that is solid and rational, creating a dilemma. “If this is true, and it clearly is, then that which I believed before cannot be true.”
OMG. Under what rock was she hiding that she needed to read the GBDeclaration to know the death rate per age group? Better late than never, I guess.
Yes Caryn she was the one who told Al Gore to wear brown. Naomi has always struck me as being a little wacko. I think her last book exploded because she misread British legal terms from the 1800s. I thought here is someone who doesn’t listen to different viewpoints but maybe she’s open about this subject. Or a stopped clock?
While Naomi Wolf is certainly no conservative, I think the events of 2020 may have actually “Red-Pilled” her a bit. Does anyone else agree with me?
Today center/left = Red Pill
I was surprised by how things that have always been obvious to me, and which I assumed were obvious to everyone, seemed like new ideas to her.
Or maybe she got burned by only believing one side? I don’t follow her, but she just sounds like someone who has a history of doing what most lefties do – isolate themselves from other sources of information. I can give her credit for not doing that here. I guess if I cared, I’d watch to see a repeat. If there is and they become more frequent, she’s changed.
Yeah, I am only 9 minutes into it and am yelling at her, “It’s __ing common sense!”
Too little, and FAR FAR too late.
NW’s interview on Tucker might provide a little background on where she’s coming from.
I don’t follow her at all – barely aware of her since the book scandal. But as I previously mentioned, she strikes me as a Liberal; not a lefty.
On a personal note, if one of my nutty relatives has a convo with me and we find ourselves in agreement, I’m not going to react with : Where the hell have you been? This is all so, so obvious … (eyeroll)
And I won’t act that way for two reasons. One: we need as many like-minded people as possible. Two: The view that our lefty media/academia provides must make it very, very hard to see what seems obvious.
And I just thought of a third reason: There are people who will listen to Naomi who wouldn’t listen to you or me, or anyone else on Ricochet. She has influence with people who need to be swayed.
HOLD THE PRESSES: Naomi Wolf has just agreed to join us on the Ricochet podcast this very week!
We already had Peter Robinson. So we were already winning.
But Naomi Wolf is good too.
Oh, this is good news. Will it be live streamed ?
Yep.
That is so great. What a great “get.” Having bright folks who are open to different ideas is always great for us. Good for you Peter!
One remarkable question was when she made a suggestion to Jay, and then asked, “is that a fair statement.” We need that type of openness and seeking to understand. Thank you.
I’ll be there.
Nicely done, guys. Looking forward to it. James and Rob may as well just let Peter have the floor for questions. (I kid)
I always look forward to the Ricochet podcast, but this one I feel especially excited about.
Also appearing on the show this week: Kite and Key’s Major Domo and the court appointed legal guardian of Richard Epstein and John Yoo, Troy Senik.
Well this just turned into an appointment podcast. 😁
Let’s hope for no technical problems…
After the recording is finished, Rob presses “Deliver”…
