More Covid-19 Insanity
This is one of the most bizarre and ridiculous displays of Covid-19 fear that I have seen. In order to protect students who sang or played in the band, Wenatchee School District High School put children in pods. They were intended to lessen the exposure to the virus. The fact that children are the least likely to contract or pass on the virus is irrelevant. Heaven help the kid with a sousaphone or anyone who is claustrophobic. Here is how this decision was explained:
‘Wenatchee has a history of ingenuity and creative problem-solving. The music pods are an innovative mitigation solution to allow music to continue safety in our schools despite the coronavirus pandemic,’ Diana Haglund, communications director for the Wenatchee School District, told the Washington Examiner. ‘Wenatchee has award-winning music programs from our nationally-recognized Mariachi, to our acclaimed Golden Apple Marching band and our outstanding choir. Based on restrictive Washington State Department of Health Theatre and Performing Arts COVID 19 requirements, Wenatchee music teachers developed a creative mitigation method using music pods to safely allow choir and music practice to resume at Wenatchee High School.’
This decision was not about protecting the children or creativity or ingenuity. It was about ignorance about the science, paranoia, and virtue signaling.
At least the kids didn’t have to try to sing or play with masks on. Right.

I forgot to mention this was in Washington State—but you probably already knew that.
Never fear. The alcohol level in the tuba players’ bloodstreams confers immunity.
I want to see the trombone section.
This is the best I can do:
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha <<pause for breath>> ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. For goodness sake. Grow a pair, America.
Thanks, Hank! You made me laugh, too!
These school administrators are essentially telling the kids that Covid-19 is so dangerous for kids that we must do whatever we can, as crazy as it might be, to protect you. I can hardly fathom this idiocy and cruelty.
That may be, Jim, and if so, I blame them all.
Children no longer dare say the emperor has no cloths.
There is also spit that goes with playing some instruments . . . I won’t even go there . . .
(Sigh)
More charter schools. More home schooling. We should also make the pitch to left-wingers and nonwhite Americans who are also sick of this insanity.
I can go you one better, from Washington State. Seattle Repertory Jazz Orchestra, to which we subscribe. They are normally awesome.
The players don’t wear masks, but the instruments do! The bells of all the instruments are wearing black face-coverings. The band was doing pretty well, in spite of their being six feet apart. This is totally ridiculous, but in the Seattle spirit, they did exactly what their Masters in Olympia told them to do with no objection.
There has actually been a university study on wind instrument aerosols. Lots of woulds, coulds, shoulds and mights. Just remember to be very afraid. Aerosols can linger in the air, then fall to a surface. Figure out how to disinfect the inside of your instrument and think twice before you suck on someone else’s reed. Mark your reed with date of last use.. And follow this vital information for your band pods:
Wow, at first glance I thought they were collapsible port-a-johns…
They appear to be individual tents. I can’t decide which is sillier: having such things made-to-order, or a manufacturer keeping them in inventory.
Of course, the players can neither see nor hear each other inside their tents. I wonder how the teacher keeps them together.
Given that the school’s wind-instrument players are blowing rather forcefully into their instruments, the instruments should be wearing masks, as in RushBabe’s picture.
at some point the individual needs to just say no. (that is fast becoming a favorite phrase of mine.)
Remind me again. How many school age children died in 2020 because of Wuflu compered to the regular flu?
My son and I were told by a mutual friend that more people have died from Kung Flu than died in WWII and the Viet Nam war combined. We told him he’d been watching too much CNN. Facts, however, are irrelevant and immaterial.
We have reached a new level of insanity. I wouldn’t be surprised if those kids wonder if the school administrators are on crack . . .
Comparatively, not many Americans died in those wars. But America has had it relatively easy with regard to war casualties with the exception of the Revolutionary and Civil War.
He didn’t limit it to Americans, so I didn’t check the numbers: But worldwide it isn’t even close.
