Prey: Ayaan Hirsi Ali On The Relationship Between Immigration And Sexual Assaults In Europe

Hoover research fellow Ayaan Hirsi Ali’s new book is Prey: Immigration, Islam, and the Erosion of Women’s Rights. It examines the sharp rise in the number of sexual assaults in Western Europe that coincides with the sharp rise in illegal immigration from Muslim-majority countries. The book points out that almost three million people have arrived illegally in Europe since 2009, close to two million in 2015 alone. A majority have come from Muslim-majority countries. Two-thirds are male, and 80 percent of asylum applicants are under the age of 35. In this conversation, Peter Robinson and Hirsi Ali explore the cause-and-effect relationships occurring in these countries, and the responses from European governments, law enforcement, and most surprisingly, from feminists in both Europe and the United States who seem very eager to deflect attention away from illegal immigration, a point the book makes very strongly.

Since the release of her book, Ayann Hirsi Ali has been on a number of podcasts discussing it. Each one has brought forth a different aspect of the book, like the faces of a multi-sided prism. I have read her previous books and plan to read this one as well. She is amazing. I would also recommend her podcast which has only a few episodes at present, but each is a particular gem well worth the time needed to listen to it.

To summarize the descriptions of her book, some cultures are rapier than others and white leftists have a big problem criticizing the sexual of violence of non-western people.

Ayan quite likes the high standards of respect for women that Western societies espouse (though often fail to live up) and she wishes that all cultures should be judged by the high standards of respect towards ladies. Though I believe she is an atheist, I think Jesus and his Mom had something to do with the West’s ideals.

The example of the Bangladeshi man going unpunished for rape because of lawful French subservience to a foreign culture -or the excuse of avoiding offending a type of culture however appalling or morally obtuse is to signal surrender and abandonment of assimilation and prevailing national norms and perpetuate a separatist culture and unsustainable society.

We see it here in America, albeit in a much, much more mild form, of a nearly making a crime out of ‘cultural appropriation’. Does it also send the signal more of this abhorrent behavior will be excused-and pushback, or self-policing communities by established immigrants difficult as well? So who is doing the confirming – the Europeans, or the small group of hostile immigrants who are defining, rightly or not, the whole.

And related to post-journalism, it seems the Europeans established the outcome of the narrative they wanted – of inclusion and tolerance at the expense of assimilation, then worked backward to shape the behavior of its citizens and policies – even doubling down when such policies failed – to the detriment of the social fiber.

I could go on, but this conversation was so fascinating and in depth, there’s too much to comment on. Thank you for this!

Every Ricochetti should watch this interview!!  Why is anything she said even novel?  It’s been said.  I’ve been saying it here on Ricochet for years that Islam does not integrate into western society and the fundamental reason is Islam itself.  But I haven’t been thinking this from the top of my head.  I read it from Robert Spencer.  He’s been saying it and writing about it for decades.  Read Confessions of an IslamophobeHe details exactly the same sort of evidence that Ayaan details, only he did it several years ago.  Read The History of Jihad: From Muhammad to ISIS.  He details the entire sordid, slaughtering history of Islam.  Islam cannot be reformed.  That is a hoax.  A myth.  The reason it cannot be reformed is because their sacred books advocate violence, a violence that was perpetrated by their prophet himself.  Mohammed killed, that is an irreversible fact, and so the violence in their sacred documents cannot be attributed to metaphor.  It is integral to their religion.

And if you don’t think Europe will become Muslim, read a novel by a French writer, Michel Houellebecq, Submission that realistically imagines just that.

The takeaway moral is Europe may be lost.   The next takeaway moral is don’t immigrate from Muslim countries.  If you don’t think this can happen in the United States, you’re a fool.  The economy does not change culture.  Look at the cultures of China and Russia.  Money has hardly changed them.  The reason Muslims in this country do not express the full extent of Islamic culture is because of the low percentage in the demographic.  Once a certain percentage of the population is Muslim, a critical mass if you will, you will see the same thing here.  You are already seeing it in Muslim concentrated areas.

Do not immigrate large scales of Muslims.

Ayaan Hirsi Ali has been writing about this for a long time: The Caged Virgin, a collection of previously published essays, was published in 2006 while her autobiographical Heretic appeared in 2007. She started receiving death threats in about 2002. If she had been living in Somalia or Pakistan or the Middle East she would have been murdered long ago–and given the fecklessness of the Dutch government she would probably have been murdered if she had remained in the Netherlands. But one should not hypocritically look down on the Western European ruling class, given how reviled she is by so many American “liberals.”

However, she does not advocate a total ban on Muslim immigration, saying that Muslims who embrace Western values should be welcome.

Sure but how do you know at the point of immigration they will, or even if they’re telling the truth at the point of immigration that over time they have a “religious experience” and become devout?  Frankly that was a flaw in her argument.  Islam is the only religion that you have to worry when a lukewarm Muslim tells you he has has suddenly become devout.

I was pointing out what she says lest any reader be misled. The uncertainty is clear given what can be found in the fundamental texts–not just the Koran’s later verses but various commentaries and the four major schools of Islamic law.

    Exactly. Thank you.
