Bet You Feel Safer Now, Yeah?

 

Inclusion study: I guess that’s a military thing now. But after seeing this from our Air Force brethren (I know, saying that is somehow mysogonist misoginyst misogynist), I kind of wanted to toss my cookies. Do you feel safer? You know, like your Air Force is ready to dominate the skies over any adversary stupid enough to pose a threat to these United States? Yeah, me neither.

The top kick of a four-star command just said “we have love for all of you.”

Senior NCOs down through the ages must just feel their ghostly chests (and breasts, I guess, not to be mysogonist misoginyst misogynist) swelling with pride.

Don’t sweat it, Sergeants Major, we’ve got NCOs out on the line that’ll keep this military rolling. Somehow.

    In the early 1970’s, when race riots were in fashion, the Navy experienced a few on some of its larger ships.  In response the Navy initiated the UPWARD (Understanding Personal Worth And Racial Dignity – commonly known as UpYours) program.  It was a series of seminars lasting for days (maybe 3?) during which racial minority crewmembers, regardless of rank, were encouraged to take an aggressive stance in expressing their views regarding conditions they experienced in shipboard life.  After being through it himself, our captain recommended it highly.  It was required for all hands.

    I personally found it to be very helpful.  For me.  You got out of it what you brought in to it, and it didn’t work for everybody.  But everybody with whom I was involved was somebody I could trust to do their duty, including those I didn’t personally like.  That was my experience.

    I question whether I could have that trust with our current crop.

    Please try to keep up, Boss.  According to the new NHS guidelines, you were right the first time.  The term “breast” is out, especially as used by midwives lactation consultants, because it is exclusionary for the transmasculine (how can that even be a thing, things being what they are?) who may be lactating in order to feed their newborns.  It’s “chestfeeding” now.  This would appear to have ramifications of all sorts, from the miltary (chestworks) to the culinary (chicken chests almondine), to the idiomatic (making a clean chest of things),  and so on.

    And no, I don’t feel safer.  Also, am I the only person who thinks that the masks, in an announcement of this sort are a total cop-out?  How absurd.

    “Measuring our progress” is never a good phrase in the federal govt.  Lord help the subordinates who have to put that together.

    Do they have time to teach our flyboys/girls how to fight?

    Even in the corporate world you would have a hard time finding an HR manager who could say that with a straight face.

    “I pledge to advocate for and acknowledge all lived experiences and intersectional identities of every sailor in the Navy. I pledge to engage in ongoing self-reflection, education and knowledge sharing to better myself and my communities. I pledge to be an example in establishing healthy, inclusive and team-oriented environments. I pledge to constructively share all experiences and information gained from activities above to inform the development of Navy-wide reforms.”

    I was one of them LHandW.  WestPac carrier. And your description is accurate.  I actually had to teach one as I was the JAG. Personally thought it a waste of time as everyone who had ever been on the ship knew how difficult it was day to day regardless of the politics. But things calmed down. I think it more to do with the draft ending and only volunteers entering the service.

    I prefer the R. Lee Ermey (FML) style.  “There is no racial bigotry here. I do not look down on (insert several non-coc racial terms), here you are all equally worthless.”

    (I’d post the whole thing which at least has an uplifting quality to it, but there’d be too much non coc compliant stuff in it)

    We didn’t have racial problems that required this level of coddling and groveling. Either the leadership has gone soft or the folks entering now have been ruined in high school. Wait until people start shooting at them and they see their buddy bleed out.

    @navyjag, it has been my honor to serve in the Joint community for many years.  I have worked with NCOs across the service spectrum.  In my experience (within my career field), most of those guys were harder’n woodpecker lips.

    One oath was good enough for me, I would never take such a pledge.  

    As a lawyer, I can’t wait for the navy to try to punish someone for refusing to take this political loyalty oath.

    If they just stood 6 feet apart they could have given those inspirational words without a stupid mask on. Actually, on second thought, the masks make the message as relevant as a passing bug.

    P.S. The Sgt. Major lied about his record. Kind of sad. Sam Elliott was still pretty good in the movie.
