Cara Dune Knows How to Fight the Evil Empire

Just a couple of days after Lucus Film and Disney Plus blacklisted Gina Carano for suggesting that it would be great if Americans learned to get along and pointing out that much on social media is nonsense, the actress struck back at the vast media conglomerates with the announcement she will be developing, producing, and starring in a new film project (reported by Deadline.com.) The film will be made in association with the Daily Wire and Dallas Sonnier’s Bonfire Legend production company. (I was particularly intrigued by the connection with Sonnier who has produced some great, but quite violent films such as Bone Tomahawk , Dragged Across Concrete, Brawl in Cell Block 99, with some of Hollywood’s more conservative-leaning stars, Mel Gibson, Vince Vaughn, and Kurt Russell).)

Carano told Deadline, “The Daily Wire is helping make one of my dreams — to develop and produce my own film — come true. I cried out and my prayer was answered. I am sending out a direct message of hope to everyone living in fear of cancellation by the totalitarian mob. I have only just begun using my voice which is now freer than ever before, and I hope it inspires others to do the same. They can’t cancel us if we don’t let them.”

We’re pulling for you, Gina! Smash those Hollywood Pig Guards!

Don’t know who she is, because I know not of this Mandalorian of which you speak. (And don’t want to – I am so weary of Star Wars. But you all keep on of course, please yourselves.)

However, I love every word of this post. And I heard the thing she said that got her canned.

    She has my full support.

She is wrong about the cancellation part.  History speaking many millions of people have been “cancelled” even though tried not to let themselves be.

I think there are enough of us on the other side that we can uncancel people.  Look at Goya.  Even Hawley got another book deal from Regnery and I will buy it when it comes out just to spit in the face of Simon and Shuster.

Examples? It seems like there’s always a market out there.

How many Holocausts, ethnic cleansing, massacres  and democides would you like me to list?  All these people were cancelled, I doubt they all wanted to be cancelled.

This. Hadn’t really thought too much about Gina Carano but this raised her profile. I was somewhat aware of her as a trailblazer in MMA, but it wasn’t as though I thought about her much. Yesterday or two days ago Randy Barnett said on twitter Haywire was one of his favorite movies. I saw it this morning. She’s the lead and she’s competent even if the role doesn’t require a lot of non-fighting acting skills. It is not one of my favorite movies but I’d say that had Atomic Blonde not been done, Haywire would basically be how you’d do a more grounded action oriented female James Bond movie. It is surprisingly well done from every angle except the slightly off soundtrack. If anyone it interested it leaves Netflix on the 29th of this month.

It can run until the “29th of this month”? A loophole! It can run forever! (Actually, I’m sure Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, are going to look for a way to memory hole Haywire. Which is a decent little action flick.)

Haha I missed that. It would be nice for it to stay on indefinitely but it’s gone when February is over. The 29th is just my truth.

What is ironic is Hollywood never stops talking about the Blacklist

They deified guys like Dalton Trumbo and never stopped making movies about McCarthyism

Another irony is back then the hollywood left had their own blacklist much like it was today . I was mainly in the writers guild. A book by Allan Ryskind provides a good history of this era

It is going to be interesting to see how Gina Carano career goes.  There is a good chance she has ended it and will take the daily wire with her.

There another Carano film on Amazon Prime now, In The Blood, which is quite violent. A story of a strong woman rescuing her man.
