Old and New: Eternal Truths
When I think of the phrase “old and new,” God and the Bible certainly come to mind. One of God’s names is “the Ancient of Days,” referencing His eternality, and even the “youngest” books of the Bible are well over 1,000 years old. That being said, this is one of the most precious verses of Scripture, in my opinion:
“Because of the Lord’s faithful love we do not perish, for his mercies never end. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness!” — Lamentations 3:23-24 CSB (emphasis added)
This is an “old” verse, having been written “during or soon after Jerusalem’s fall in 586 b.c.” (per John MacArthur), and naturally speaks to a specific context in the book of Lamentations. However, here in January of 2021, it is still true that God’s mercies are new every morning. His grace and forgiveness are offered to us afresh every single second of every single day!
God’s Word never changes. And as it says in Hebrews 13:8, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.” “Old” (read: “eternal”) truths can be beautiful and thrilling to us today as we read and experience them like new in Christ!

That was sweet. Thank you, Miz Allie.
Thank you, too! ☺️
“Great Is Thy Faithfulness” is a favorite 20th Century American hymn, made internationally known as George Beverly Shea sang it in Billy Graham’s evangelistic crusades, starting in 1945.

You know what’s funny – I listened to a Michael W. Smith version of that hymn yesterday, too. I guess God’s faithfulness was the theme of the day!
Amen. Needed this today
Been finding daily refreshment in the Psalms these days. Thanks for the encouragement, and here is some for you as well.
Thank you for going to the scriptures! It’s truly inspirational. It’s wonderful to know that God and Jesus Christ are there for us in good times and bad. Sometimes the good and bad happen simultaneously. May God bless you! Happy Sabbath Day!
FIFY, as the kids say these days.
That was great, thank you!!! I’m just entering a period of saving/looking for a house, so this was amazingly timely. 😊
I don’t know what I’d do without the Bible – have a nervous breakdown, probably. 😂
Praying for you with that for sure.
I appreciate it!!!
