A 10-79 Letter from a Portland Police Officer

See the source image

10-79 is the 10 code used in Portland, OR, for ending your shift. 10-79 is also heard at the end of memorial services for officers that have lost their lives while on duty.

2020 has been a rough year for officers of the Portland Police Bureau. The image of a dumpster fire should appear on the City of Portland Seal, and on city stationery. The city motto should be changed from “The City That Works” to “The City That Shirks.”

There have been 900 shootings in 2020 Portland, in 2019 there were 393 shootings. There have been 70 stabbings in 2020. Police officers in Portland have been vilified during the 100 days of rage. They are leaving Portland. Some are retiring, and some are resigning and seeking law enforcement jobs in other cities. The PPB may have lost 20% of their officers. Calls for service are experiencing delays, and some may not be answered at all.

Law Enforcement Today has published a letter from a retiring PPB officer:

Editor note: Before releasing the letter, Law Enforcement Today confirmed through multiple sources within the city of Portland that this was written by a retiring police officer.  We’re also told efforts were made to prevent it from being distributed… but it was too late.

Hell hath no fury like an admin cop, or woke city council and mayor, and the local media that prefaces every story with “Mostly Peaceful Protests” when a street cop speaks truth to the idiocy of destroying a city.

An excerpt from the letter:

Every wonder why so many people died during Hurricane Katrina? Look no further than what has happened here in Portland for the last 100 days.

“The water will subside” strategy is working great!!!!

Let’s get rid of all of the helicopters and boats to rescue people by defunding the purchases and laying off the pilots and boat captains. Instead we’ll send out an army of paddleboarders.

Of course we won’t have anyone trained on paddleboarding or even have purchased any paddleboards to be used rescue all those who need help, but at least it’s better that they die by drowning, starvation and disease than have to breath another breath of fossil fuel.

Brothers and sisters, there is a dark storm on the horizon. It is darker and more ominous than anything any of us have ever seen before. Prepare!

Click on the link for the entire letter that describes a 26.5-year career on the streets of Portland.

So sad. I hope these officers can find some peace and consolation . . . away from Portland (Seattle, Chicago, Detroit, New York, Philly, . . .).

We’re trading our English common law and law and order heritage for the thin gruel of wokeism.

I think all police and first responders need to quit to save their lives and their families.  The Democrats do not need to be supported in their policies and blame game.  Let them have what the people voted for.  Let them burn.

    Too soon?

Get this fantastic collectors Christmas ornament, one for each of the cities burned in 2020.

Collect them all, while supplies last.

Collection expansion is planned for 2021. All proceeds go to an opportunity zone business destroyed in these fires.

    /Gallows humor.

    Or is it Guillotine humor?

Most police officers are not wired that way. They may be cynical, and have an acerbic sense of humor, but it’s tempered by dealing with victims of crime. Once you start seeking some justice for crime victims it overrides the desire to give up and allow dirtbags to control the residents of your city.

The LAPD officer who writes under the Nom de Plume “Jack Dunphy” has reported that LAPD recruits are serving their probationary period and then moving on to Ca suburbs that appreciate their efforts.  He has also done so after retiring.

Then they need to engage survival instincts and get the hell out while the getting is good.  There is no honor in serving those that have contempt for you.  The Cities have voted, its people do no want cops.  Let them have what they want.

On the other hand, how do police officers deal with orders to do this?  Maybe it’s why they’re leaving.

How many times over the decades of advancing Marxist verbal and physical attacks since the ’60s have I wondered at the occasionally-heard expressions of the cops in times like these. They are taking the brunt of an assault on our society which most of us are only seeing from a place of safety.  And yet they seem to be no less committed to their jobs, no less dedicated to and hopeful for restoration of order, as if it were they who were in the background and we on the front lines.

I’ve never heard a cop directly explain why he and his are different from us ordinary citizens, so resolutely in support of the return to order, and so resolutely opposed to an eye for an eye.  They can’t forget the victims and turn on the politicians because they have been with the victims, and also understand violence first hand.

    God bless ’em.

Have any of the major cities that abandoned sanity in 2020 reclaimed common sense? Is what Mayor Giuliani did for New York City an example of hope for such cities? What will be the effects beyond their borders if the madness persists?

My worries for Texas were lessened when Governor Abbot cited multiple surveys showing that 57% of transplants from California voted Republican in Texas. If accurate, that probably means we are getting more habitual Republican voters than self-hating Democrats from Democrats’ failed states.

But 57% is not a strong majority. And I expect more sensible voters are only the first to emigrate from failed states, rather than a consistent pattern as the exodus continues.

And they need to withdrawal so the populace that hates them can feel the violence first hand for a while.

Not convinced he will implement what he’s asked for. It’s what he doesn’t allow thePPD to do and their council has made nothing illegal. He’s a lightweight twit, even in the twit demographic.

Possibly he was suspected of psychosis as no one sane would move from Texas to CA.  Partly kidding but I wonder if he is still happy with his decision to move?  We left CA almost exactly 4 years ago for AZ.  Close enough to drive back and see kids and grandkids.

I am concerned that the move by big employers like Oracle might drag along employees who were completely OK with the Woke politics of CA. Those who move on their own are less likely to bring their politics with them.  We are refugees who left CA 4 years ago,
