Quote of the Day: Something To Consider for the New Year

It is only through labor and painful effort, by grim energy and resolute courage, that we move on to better things.

– Theodore Roosevelt

We are starting a new year with its attendant challenges. As we face them we have to remember moving on to better things is difficult. It is work, and often hard work.  Do not be dismayed by that. Instead, own the challenge. Do the best you can to better your corner of the world and more importantly, don’t behave like crabs in a bucket, dragging down other crabs as they attempt to escape. Dragging down others who are making things better just makes things worse.

Amen.  In addition (and I hope this doesn’t stray too far from the spirit of the OP), don’t sacrifice the “good” (otherwise known as “a step in the right direction”) because it doesn’t fully comply with the “perfect.”

No it doesn’t. You read between the lines.

Unfortunately, too many people on both sides would prefer to be coddled or let someone else do the work. If we want things to be better, even if we only get partway to our destinations, we’ve got to try.

This is why, whatever your goals are for 2021, you have to take each one and work toward it with concrete steps. If you don’t, you most likely won’t follow through.

Teddy could not have pictured a world where the alternative is to let the government handle it.
