If Birx Didn’t Cancel Thanksgiving, Do We Have to Cancel Christmas?
How many stories have you read about overrun hospitals, plugging people onto oxygen in the parking lot in overflow tents? We were scared into canceling our plans and spending yet another holiday away from our families. And yet, we heard multiple times about politicians who announced their recommendations literally in transit to see family out of town.
But this latest story about Dr. Deborah Birx may take the cake for its hypocrisy:
Dr. Deborah Birx traveled with family out of state over Thanksgiving weekend — disregarding her own advice to stay home and not gather during the holidays, according to a report.
The White House coronavirus response coordinator was joined by three different generations of family at one of her vacation properties on Fenwick Island in Delaware on Nov. 27, just one day after the Thanksgiving holiday, the Associated Press reported.
The group — which included her husband Paige Reffe, a daughter, son-in-law and two young grandchildren — were from two separate households.
Her excuse is almost too laughable for words (via the New York Post):
Birx — who has a home in Washington D.C. and another in Potomac, Maryland — defended the trip saying that she needed to take care of winterizing the property before a potential sale.
“I did not go to Delaware for the purpose of celebrating Thanksgiving,” Birx said in a statement.
She argued the members of the trip belong to her “immediate household,” though acknowledged that they live in separate homes.
We’re all in it together, except, of course, that we’re not.

She might as well have gotten a perm or something, while she was at it.
She didn’t inhale. The Coronavirus.
Hypocrisy now seems to be SOP. Has been for a while.
Answer honestly: Were you going to cancel your holiday anyway?
Anyone taking advice from these idiots is a fool.
Not a chance.
We will set off for Gruesome Newsomland next Wed. If he has not blocked I 10 at the border, we will be in OC by 4 PM and plan to stay in my older son’s condo. Christmas Eve is the holiday for my family and there should be a nice group. WE will also be there for Christmas morning and will see our grand daughter for the first time in a year. The politicians who do this to us have no life outside politics. Brix and Fauci are included as politicians. The LA County “Health Director of Health Services:” is a “Doctor” of Sociology. We are doomed.
Well, at least California is doomed. But I’ve known that for years.
None of the leading authorities of “Science!*” have treated this in their personal lives the way they have portrayed it to the the public. Yes, there is a virus. Yes, it’s dangerous to a certain subset of Americans. However, it’s not the black death. Whether or not they’re being overly cautious or just feeding us bull crap for whatever reason, the policy prescriptions are BS. Protect the vulnerable, let others lead their lives with mitigation. The freedoms of the American public are not worth the BS “security” they’re selling.
Someone on facebook (perhaps from europe) is now claiming there is a “new” strain they’re all scared of. This is never going to end if we don’t take our freedoms back.
Cannot trust anyone anymore.
This is what the elites have wrought
I considered Birx to be one of the good guys, compared to Fauci. And she still is, compared to Fauci. She did her job, but she didn’t try to become a cult of personality like Fauci is trying to.
I suspect that because of her lower profile, she thought she could get away with breaking the rules she helped promulgate.
Going beyond the base hypocrisy, when I hear of these incidents, I get the distinct impression that the elites promulgating these rules, don’t believe their own BS.
It’s the same in other things too, of course. If they really believed in “climate change” they wouldn’t private-jet-around to various meetings and keep buying and owning mansions on the shores of various things.
My Scottish relatives were all a buzz about the “new strain” this morning on FB
Some (not my relatives who think the lockdowns have been too lax) have noted that the mutant strain was discovered just as the vaccine was being rolled out. God forbid anyone get a pesky notions of getting their life back
I read earlier that it was a relative that dropped a dime on Birx.
And yes, like elites in all fields, many of them don’t believe a word of what they’ve been shoveling.
Her “excuse” is telling. So if you have an ostensible reason, some household maintenance in this case, then the virus is not a concern? This is an interesting virus. (Hey, she’s the expert.)
We all “have” to do something.
Perhaps she agrees then, that’s the new rule: stay home/wear a mask/socially distance unless there’s something else you have to do.
But of course that’s what we always do – it’s called living our ordinary lives.
This has long since taken on the operative quality of “global warming” – the powers-that-be issue orders and restrictions, while living their lives as they please. They don’t behave as though they actually believe it.
It’s becoming evident that we’re being had. If not, they owe us a serious explanation for these things.
The people in Belarus are rising up, maybe it’s time for us. But our weapons should be a middle finger and an eye roll.
Would be nice if there was some accurate research about how the Virus was actually transmitted. Everyone has strong opinions, but I would like to know how effective or ineffective masks are in preventing the spread of the virus – either from the mask wearer or to the mask wearer. Everyone has conviction , no one has data. Same for transmission rates in classrooms for HS and college. Same for restaurants and family gatherings. Everyone screams certainty and SCIENCE , but there is little or no data or analysis, or even thoughtful speculation. Treatments are political. And the media and government spokesmen are filled are earnest ruthless liars.

Yes it has mutated
As with “climate change,” I’ll believe this is serious when the people telling us it’s serious act like they believe it’s serious.
And while she was “winterizing” her home, she looked up at the calendar and said, “Shazzam! It’s Thanksgiving! Might as well have dinner.
Immediate family, yes. Immediate household, no.
Rules for thee but not for me . . .
You should have heard the BBC this am regarding the new strain. According to them, the British will starving in the streets by the end of the week due to everyone closing their borders. And, of course, those that don’t die of starvation will succumb to the mutated virus.
Wow a virus mutating. Who would have thunk it!?
It wasn’t “just discovered.” They’ve known that there are multiple strains for a while now. The strain is called D614G, and it’s been running loose in the US since May. It’s just now getting a toehold in the UK.
The “new” strain has been known to be more contagious than the main one, but is also apparently less deadly, which is part of the reason the US “positive” numbers have been so high, but the death rate hasn’t increased at the same rate. It’s the primary strain in the US right now.
whatever.
Science! You know, it can also mutate into something harmless . . .
I prefer hotter mutants.
Honestly, I’m not that bothered. People giving good advice that they can’t manage to follow themselves is the human condition.
However, when people give advice in the form of orders with threats of imprisonment and fines, those guys need to go down.
Oh one hand I agree with you. But doesn’t it make you doubt that Birx actually believes what she’s been touting? Risking her own health is one thing … but risking her family?
Maybe she doesn’t like them very much.
Like the species lady (before and after)?
