Quote of the Day: Competition vs. Cronyism

“There are really only two types of people: those who want to win in competition, and those who would prefer to shut competition down. The former are the strivers and entrepreneurs; the latter the monopolists and cronies. Philosophically, which are you?” -– Arthur Brooks

This divide defines today’s America. Red-state governors like Noem and de Santis, are in the former category. Blue-state governors, like Newsom and Cuomo, belong in the latter category. If you are the former, you voted for Trump in November. If you are the latter, you voted for Biden.

We are now in a battle for the American soul. Winning in competition used to be the American way. Today, the Democrats wish to replace winning in competition to winning by knowing the right people (especially Democrats in power). The next two years will be the decisive battle over which vision prevails.

I know we are in a battle, but what tools, weapons, and actions do we use to fight back and preserve the good?

This is all I can think of:

    The Armor of God

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.

Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.

Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.

In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.

Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.

    Ephesians 6:10-18

This is the Quote of the Day, an ongoing project to help get more voices on the site. It can be the easiest way to start a conversation on Ricochet. (Some people do put in a lot more effort, of course.) Our sign-up sheet for December is here and waiting for you. We welcome new participants and new members to Ricochet to share their favorite quotations.

Another ongoing project to encourage new voices is our Group Writing Project. December’s theme is ‘Tis the Season. If you’re looking to share your own thoughts rather than those of others and have some ideas about the holiday(s) season we are entering, why not sign up there?

I agree with the quote and find the prediction to be very probable. America has gained its status as leader of what is commonly referred to as the free world by providing, promoting, and protecting equal opportunity for all Americans based on merit, where merit is based on performance. China is a key external player, but America’s future is in our hands now.

    Great Post.

Sea writer:The next two years will be the decisive battle over which vision prevails.

That may be the next two weeks, not years.

If Trump wins,  it really could be a new day for America with a Supreme Court that once again believes in and enforces the Constitution.  Great things could be ahead.

If Biden wins, we likely will spiral into a Police State with a heavy dose of Chi Com influence.  An unimaginably,  unbelievably bleak  future, where the Cronies and Corrupt rule with glee and malevolence.

    Same people. Different stages.
