Thomas Sowell’s Tribute to Walter Williams
The great Thomas Sowell has written his tribute to his friend, the great Walter Williams. Here is a sample:
Walter once said he hoped that, on the day he died, he would have taught a class that day. And that is just the way it was, when he died on Wednesday, December 2, 2020.
He was my best friend for half a century. There was no one I trusted more or whose integrity I respected more. Since he was younger than me, I chose him to be my literary executor, to take control of my books after I was gone.
But his death is a reminder that no one really has anything to say about such things.

I did not know he died, the world is now a much worse place with his passing.
This from linked article was unexpected. Somehow I suspect Sowell got a kick himself out of including it. So sorry for his and the family’s loss.

Thank you for the post. Williams and Sowell — two giants of our time. They wrote/spoke (write/speak) so sensibly and truthfully.
There are some people — such as Williams and Sowell — you never get an opportunity to actually know in person — but you love them just the same for the light they bring into the world.
Go rest high on that mountain Mr. Williams, know your work on earth may be finished but it will not be forgotten.
I had heard about his death, but didn’t know he died on my birthday, so I’ll definitely remember him.
I have his autobiography Up From The Projects and have read it multiple times. He was an inspirational man and also somewhat of a mischievous character in his earlier days, particularly during his time in the armed forces.
His weekly columns will be missed. If I had not just read Thomas Sowell’s piece I wouldn’t have known that he had written other books. They must be out of print because I have never seen them listed in any searches.
Walter Williams is a big loss for us all.
Now Thomas Sowell needs to live forever. We just can’t afford to lose such courageous, ultra intelligent and erudite black gentlemen in this time of sleepwalking zombie “wokeness”. Lord have mercy.
I read his columns but not his books. I don’t know why. I’ll get them. I discovered Sowell sooner, decades ago by accident in New Zealand looking for speech material. Read them all. We don’t have replacements for either of them and we’ve never needed them more.
