They Write Reviews, So You Don’t Have to Suffer
Thank you, Douglas A. Jeffery for your article in the Claremont Review of Books. I read it earlier this week and rolled my eyes so hard, they still hurt a little. Good grief! It’s amazing the incredible vitriol that some so-called “educated” people maintain for Pres. Trump.
“One sure sign,” Frum writes, “is when the president tries to bypass the executive branch that exists to serve him.” This is a Catch-22 worthy of the British sitcom Yes Minister: an elected leader trying to bypass the bureaucrats thwarting him is proof he needs thwarting.
That’s just one of the many parts of this book review that got my poor extra-oculars over-stretched. David Frum is a well-known anti-Trumper and a “fake” Republican. But the things quoted from this book in the review are astounding! He’s also implied that Trump was only elected because we “little people” (he didn’t say that…I’m using a Downton Abbey term) were so dumb that we believed he was needed.
He goes on to cite how Trump was so annoying because he didn’t do what all the entrenched administrative bosses told him to do. I mean Trump actually went into the federal government and saw waste and fraud, and then tried to eliminate it! And he did different things in the Middle East than the Experts had done for 50 years, and, and … his ideas worked! And peace treaties were signed! And, and, none of the Usual Paths were followed! Lt. Col. Vindman and his brother are still miffed.
So, you can read the review or you could even read the book. But, since Frum regularly appears on CNN, that’s a good enough reason for me to avoid it.

I keep seeing leftist saying they want to try Trump for his misdeeds but they never say what they are.
I have contempt for David Frum, who has no self and so wants only to sit in the front row. You have saved me the pain of even reading a review of his newest whining drool. Thanks, and take care of those eyes.
If you’re going to throw around a term like “Fist City” . . .
They don’t need to say anything specific. Because he is not a leftist, he is obviously guilty of something. Just being a Republican is a criminal offense to the extreme left.
Democrats are disgusting. They make common cause with despicable people: Antifa, Black Lives Matter Marxists, those who commit vote fraud, and on and on. Democrats disavow none of their despicable supporters.
Can’t comment on the article. Wouldn’t be prudent.
Claremont Review is well worth subscribing to.
Frum seems to be one of those people who have read A Man for All Seasons but took the wrong characters as role models.
You will have a difficult time showing that Trump even had an interest in this. Start with some of the excessive office decorations of his cabinet picks. And as deficits bloomed, waste accompanied it. Was he worse? No. But it was never a focus.
What will people say and write about if and when Trump is no longer in office..
I haven’t even had my morning coffee yet and I’ve already read the most inane thing I’m going to read today.
So, the head of the executive branch should let the bureaucracy lead? Pretty sure we elect a president to be the leader of that branch.
Remember when Bush was no longer in office? He was still blamed for everything (except, perhaps, for those things for which he was truly to blame).
I love how the BusHitler crowd now extolls him for his level-headed, “normal” way of being president. That was Trump’s biggest trigger for all those who think there is only one way to be president. (That way is letting the press tell you what to do, and how to do it, oh, and be a Democrat, and be cool, and …and…) Trump didn’t know all the “rules” because he hadn’t been a politician. He’d been a businessman. He was used to a different way of doing things.
I was a teacher for 25 years. But, for 20 years before that, I was a young married mother raising my five children. We’d lived in three different school districts (because of my husband’s job) and I’d been the Class Mom who helped all the time. So, I had a clue what was going on in schools. Or so I thought…
I finished college, got hired as a fourth grade teacher, and discovered that school is really different if you’re an employee. Once, I was at a training for something, and it was obviously some really stupid new “program” that an administrator had been convinced to purchase. During the meetings I pointed out something that was really pointless/superfluous/dumb that we were being taught to do. Silly me! That just showed that I was a brand new teacher! The reply from the admin who were training us? In essence, it was “Shut Up. Thank you.” I learned as I got more experience as a teacher that this was an important thing for me to internalize: Don’t point out the obvious.
I imagine that Trump had the same reaction when he became the chief executive of the Vast Bureaucratic Executive Branch of Government after being a businessman. “You always do it this way?? Why? ” and the answer was probably some form of “Shut Up. Thank You.”
Are you forgetting this bit of accusation from our friends on the Left: “Trump is literally Hitler.” (??)
So if that is true, and since Hitler never got tried at Nuremberg, I imagine Mr Trump is gonna have a whole lotta explaining to do.
