Quote of the Day: Such Times

“I wish it need not have happened in my time,” said Frodo. “So do I,” said Gandalf, “and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.” – J.R.R. Tolkien, The Fellowship of the Ring

We may not be living in times as cataclysmic as those of Frodo and Gandalf, but it has been a trying year. Next year bids fair to be worse. The good of the last four years will be undone and we will likely face more restrictions on our civil liberties and can almost certainly expect higher energy prices as the United States once again becomes an energy importing country.

But while we have no choice about the times we live in – bad or good – we can indeed decide what we do with the time that is given us.

We’ll see what happens, but with the right mind-set, it can be entertaining.

We watched the entire trilogy last weekend and I would gladly do it again. I think it’s time to break out the books again.

    Thank you!

The future is obscure and Biden is probably not going to be around much.  I would love to see Trump pull it out but, as VDH has said, he is a tragic hero as in Greek drama.  The rot has been going on a long time.  The recent surge in dishonesty and political bribery began with the Clintons.  The Loral sale to China might be seen as the first step on the path.  Nixon had good  reasons to lure China out of its cave but, since then, the American political/commercial class has forgotten, if they ever understood, what the purpose was. This is pretty typical of those who go into politics.

My greatest concern is a weak DACA being passed, which will encourage (as Biden without anything else may do) a new surge of illegal immigrants, and he has said he thinks we are “obligated” give them free health care. And what else? Then, the energy issue and forgiving too much student debt without any meaningful strings attached – which will encourage schools to do nothing about their own soaring costs, and the cycle of bad degrees etc. continue. Continuing: who knows to what extent Biden will roll back Trump un-writing the piles of Obama’s executive orders? Topping it off, attempted brainwashing by forced exposure to cultic “critical race training” creeping from government into private corporations. And tolerance of big social media silencing conservative voices. I have to hope the targeting of Trump and family by that black female NY lawyer will end up in many appeals, up to the Supreme Court if needed.
