Recommended by Ricochet Members Created with Sketch. The Fogbow

Like I expect many of you, the election and its supposed results have left me feeling unsettled. Not so much for the supposed result, but for the degree that the other side seems to be willing to cut corners.

This morning, when I walked the dog down our country road, it was very foggy. Coming back, with the sun to our backs, I saw what I can only call a “fogbow” – that is, like a rainbow, but no colors. This picture from my phone doesn’t really do it justice:

The right side (shown) starts at a pond across the street from our house and from where we were, the left side seemed to go to our house.

I just got back from my second walk — my old dog can’t walk as far as my old body needs. The fog has lifted and it is a beautiful day. In the 60s now and supposedly going into the upper 70s. So it will be a good day to sit in the rocking chairs on the porch to relax.

That is what we call a “porchable” day.

I think G-d is showing me He is still in charge and things will work out.

I hope you have a porchable day.

Wikipedia says that it’s a thing and that’s the name for it.

Would have been my next guess. Pretty place. Looks a lot like the horse farms around Lexington Ky.

Yes – In my 2+ mile walk, I pass several horse farm/rings and a couple of cattle pastures. Its a wonderful place

Cliff Mass, a University of Washington meteorologist, saw a fog bow on his morning walk and wrote about it on his blog. He is very good on Pacific Northwest weather. He writes about what causes them and why there is no color. I’m going to have to take early morning walks in hopes that I see one.

You’re not the only one to call it a fogbow. It has no colors because the droplets in fog are about 100 times smaller than raindrops, small enough to cause the colors overlap to blend back in white because of diffraction. That makes the fogbow much sloppier than a rainbow and, of course, less colorful.

    Some more fogbow pics here.
