Recommended by Ricochet Members Created with Sketch. My 2018 Post About the Anonymous Essay

We now know that the author of an anonymous anti-Trump essay in 2018 was not a senior official. Here’s a take-off I wrote two years with a far more senior person from WW2.

I am part of the resistance to the Roosevelt administration. Many think that his reckless actions led to the war and that his strategy is unsound. He moved the Pacific fleet from San Diego to Hawaii over the protests of its commander Adm. Richardson who thought that the fleet was too vulnerable there. The disaster on December 7th was the result. Admiral King thinks that the Europe first strategy is dangerous and is diverting much of the Navy’s resources to the Pacific. Roosevelt has no regard for democracy as was shown by his court packing bill. The British are frustrated by the Americans not taking notes about the decisions reached at meetings. It’s as if Roosevelt revels in administrative chaos. He doesn’t understand what it means to be president and many of his officials are working diligently from within to frustrate his worst inclinations. He calls Stalin Uncle Joe and doesn’t appear to understand the menace of Communism. He made Henry Wallace his VP who is dangerously sympathetic to socialism….

Given that the NYT lied about the level of anonymous, why should we believe anything of that nature in the future. Anonymous may be cover for an imaginary person spouting the reporter’s ideas undercover or may a reporter trying to pass off a low-level bureaucrat as a senior person.

I think this really should put into question all the confidentially sourced stories of the past 5 years. I have often wondered what kind of maniac would work for 15 – 20 years to become a trusted and senior official in a republican administration to risk it all on leaking a vapid negative story on President Trump. Seems more likely that the leakers would be interns who are passing along gossip, rather than anyone with gravitas passing along their experiences, and its far more likely that a lot of these sources dont exist at all.

Chief of staff for a cabinet level department is quite “senior”. And I expect Trump did not know his name. I doubt Trump makes that effort.

In 40 years, when those who stand to benefit are no longer writing, we shall see a full view of the administration and it will not be kind.

He was not chief of staff when he wrote the letter. I suspect that my dad, as a GS 16, was more senior than this clown. Of course, my dad invented GPS…

This kind of hard hitting, insightfulness from afar by the NT crowd sure makes me giggle.

If Trump loses this election there will be no history, that we would recognize as such, written. I don’t know what comes after Trump, assuming he wins this election, but I doubt it will be kind to Republicans afflicted with TDS.

Anonymous sources can immediately be placed into the category of hearsay. Hearsay is not evidence of truth, it only allows the reader to believe what they want to believe. Hearsay allows the journalist to shape a narrative they wish to promote. Hearsay allows the anonymous source to shape the narrative. There is no way to even be sure that an anonymous source exists.

Last week after reading this post at Powerline, I ordered the two books referenced in it. Don’t know if/when I will ever read them but I wanted the documentation on my shelf for when the details of this sordid era get memory holed. If things go bad this week, that may be sooner than anyone thinks.

Byron York has a new one, too.

He wasn’t “senior” at the time he wrote the book or the op-ed. And what makes you think that Trump doesn’t know or make an effort to remember people’s names. He’s better at it that I am. what information do you have that the rest of the public doesn’t have?
