Critical Race Theory and Its Discontents

Most Americans were not aware when a toxic theory of race relations deeply embedded itself into our culture, especially our schools.

Critical race theory (CRT) sounds like sophisticated academic reasoning, but it is not rooted in any science nor subjected to disciplined analysis. It is based on the assumption that white people are born with a belief in their own superiority and with prejudice against other races that, because it is inborn, can never be eliminated.

Racism is defined as the mindset of judging people on the basis of their race.  It is profoundly racist to believe that any person’s beliefs can be reliably determined based only on their skin color.

CRT represents the exact opposite of the vision proclaimed by generations of American civil rights leaders, culminating in Martin Luther King’s famous “I have a dream“ speech. King’s dream was of an America where races live together amicably, where color blindness was a shared goal, and where race really didn’t matter that much.

To the CRT crowd, race infuses every aspect of life. It determines our character and behavior. If all white people are bigoted, then the nation they founded and its institutions must also be racist, so the notion of “institutional“ or “systemic“ racism naturally follows.

CRT thus becomes the ideological foundation of Black Lives Matter and others wishing to foment hatred toward America. CRT also places the rest of us on a cruel hamster wheel. If we really are unable to forgo our innate racism, why even try? What good are attempts at interracial friendship and mutual acts of kindness? And if you object to being deemed automatically racist, that only provides further proof of your bigotry.

But does systemic racism really explain, for example, higher black incarceration rates? Blacks comprise 13% of America’s population, yet committed 53% of the murders in 2018, 54% of robberies, and 34% of armed robberies, which would logically result in higher arrest and incarceration rates.

Asians, by contrast, comprise 5.6% of the population but commit to just 1.3% of the murders, 1.4% of the robberies, and 2.1% of armed robberies. Is this proof that police have a pro-Asian bias and ignore Asian criminality?

Or is it more likely because across the races, there is a direct correlation between having a father in the home versus crime rates and there’s a 70% unwed pregnancy rate among blacks?   The Marxist founders of BLM advocate eliminating the nuclear family.

Still, almost unbelievably, CRT has become mainstream academic dogma in our universities. Although proponents avoid publicity, many parents are now discovering that even elementary school children are being introduced to the basics.

They’re serious. One national organization insists that “stopping the systemic dehumanization” requires “flooding our children with counter messages… until there is no racial inequality in incarceration and no brutality from the police and others.”

Educators in Chicago are provided with a “say their name” tool kit where Angela Davis, an unrepentant terrorist, admonishes that “in a racist society, it is not enough to be non-racist. We must be anti-racist.” In other words, kids, no room for discussion or nuance. You’re either all in for BLM/CRT or you’re the enemy of decency.

Major corporations, hoping to avoid racial shaming, are supportive. In the name of “diversity training“, white employees are told they should “struggle to own their racism“ and “invest in race-based growth“. “Safe spaces“ are created where humiliated whites sit in mandated silence while black employees explain “the discomfort of their racism“ and “what it means to be black”.  If they become “too emotional or too mean“, whites are not allowed to protest.

It’s chilling to think how far we’ve come from the days when racial hostility was in decline, when in response to our racist past, Americans were determined to do better and to bring us together. Critical race theory drives us apart and precludes the very initiatives that would support progress for black citizens.

Make no mistake, this is not an accident. CRT is not meant to improve the lot of blacks but to stoke the resentments that will enable the takeover of America that BLM and their radical allies fervently seek.

America, please beware.

    I think they know they cannot take over the US by themselves, but if they get enough compliant white people to mollify them, they will be able to play on the mindset they are trying to cultivate in the next generation, to get around having to actually achieve their way to equality and instead just rely on an endless stream of preferential treatment. What they want to instill is a permanent claim of oppression even if it can’t be proven, so that there can be a permanent transfer of compensation. Tear things down in reality and all the goodies go away, which they want to get a bigger share of, after all.

    Kemi Badenoch.

    Post her video from Parliament every time you hear a BLM screed.  That is, until Google-YouTube bans it.

    Weren’t the people who came up with critical race theory white?  If I came across a white person who tried to humiliate me with charges of racism and “white privilege”, I would point at them and raise my voice and say “You are white. You are racist!  How dare You try to humiliate me with your despicable charges?!  I order you to bow down before the next black person you meet and apologize in public for your own racism!”.  And never try this on me again!

    Tom,

    You have it exactly. For a brief moment from 1964 thru to 1973, we had it right. Civil Rights Law was about actual prejudicial behavior and those who needed a legal remedy because they had been wronged. However, the liberals who had been in control were pushed aside by radicals. They said that “it wasn’t happening fast enough”. So they just decided that they could have a judge decide what “should” be without evidence or even an actual offense. This was the so-called quota-based affirmative action rulings.

    Of course, without the discipline of the law, proving your case, this rapidly descended into a race hustling scam. After the fall of the Soviet Union, the radicals were now in retreat. People realized that the entire radical point of view didn’t work. The radicals desperately needed a new act. The kind of philosophy that supported these ideas that you are talking about had not been taken seriously by professional philosophers for obvious reasons. Somehow the extreme need of the radicals found this daffy and discredited philosophical school and a new strange ideology was formed. Of course, the stupidity of the entire mentality, as you say, precludes the very initiatives that would support progress for black citizens. The sickness and hopeless absurdity unleashed this year as Marxist organized rioting did 2 billion dollars of property damage, killing many, and severely injuring many more. This demonstrated that we can’t live with this new radical ideology that attacks everything.

    BLM/Antifa are the enemies of Black people and they are the enemies of Western Civilization. They must be stopped dead in the streets and cleaned out of the schools.

    Nice post.

    Regards,

    Jim

    CRT is just the another step towards tearing Americans apart so that socialism can be installed.  It is the next form of Liberation Theology.

    I just wonder how long it will take before non white Americans realize that this whole theory is based upon a presumption that non whites can never compete against whites on a ‘level playing field’ (isn’t that the same as White Supremacy?)  and thus it is necessary to disadvantage whites.  What a profound sense of inferiority that must instill.

    Teach your children they can be whatever they want to be if they work hard and stay out of jail, and they have a good chance at a happy life.  Bring them up with the constant admonishment that they better watch out because the man is out to get them, and will never allow them to succeed no matter what, and they have very little chance of success or happiness.

    They are willfully destroying their own families and community in the name of socialism.

    On another note, Anti-Racism is racism.  Anti fascism is fascism.  I’m beginning to think they don’t understand the prefix ‘Anti’?

    Maybe I’m just old or inflexible, but I’m noticing a reworking of all the old acronyms. And it shows me better than most things the changing of the times.  Maybe this is because I tend toward the political, but these acronyms today seem tp bend toward race and politics.  What are other acronyms that have new meanings?

    Before:

    BLM = Bureau of Land Management.

    CRT = Cathode Ray tube

    OMB = Office of Management and Budget

    NT = New Testament

    After:

    BLM = Black Lives Matter

    CRT + Critical Race Theory

    OMB = Orange man Bad

    NT = Never Trump

    We have overused acronyms to the point that we have run out and have to recycle them!
