Conservative Protest Song: Van Morrison, Born to Be Free
It’s nice to have a conservative protest song.
Published in GeneralWell, well the birds in the the trees
Know something we can’t see.
‘Cos they know, we were born, to be free.
Don’t need the government cramping my style
Give them an inch, they take a mile.
Take you in with a phony smile, wouldn’t you agree.
The new normal is not normal, it’s no kind of normal at all.
Everyone seems to have amnesia,
Just trying to remember the Berlin Wall.
Some kind of new old ideology,
With new psychology,
But it’s not for the benefit,
Of you and me.
The new normal is not normal,
it’s no kind of normal at all.
Everyone seems to have amnesia,
Just trying to remember the Berlin Wall.
Always hard to write lyrics and still shoehorn in a political point without it sounding forced. Not sure he succeeded, though I love the Belfast Cowboy.
Such a fiery, combative, incorrigible old coot. I like his instincts anyway.
He had another anti lockdown song, that doesnt quite work. This one I like because it can be applied to more than just the lockdowns.
Dont need the government cramping my style will be good for so much evil in the world.
Tory,
Yeah! I really like this too.
I’d say that about sums up the woke wonderland we are now living in.
Who else will sock’em right in the kisser like this? Van is the man.
Regards,
Jim
Thank you so much for this, I’ve been a Van fan since forever.
