We Have Always Been At War With COVID-19

He gazed up at the enormous face. Forty years it had taken him to learn what kind of smile was hidden beneath the dark moustache. O cruel, needless misunderstanding! O stubborn, self-willed exile from the loving breast! Two gin-scented tears trickled down the sides of his nose. But it was all right, everything was all right, the struggle was finished. He had won the victory over himself. He loved Big Brother.   –1984, George Orwell

The left has won the COVID issue and probably the next election as a result.  I am old enough to remember when Nancy Pelosi et al took the counsel of Dr. Fauci and told us that the viral disease the Washington Post had once called the “Chinese flu” in a headline was really no threat.  It was all merely a racist, divisive, anti-Chinese stunt by Trump to pretend that the “Wuhan flu” was serious.   Well into the apparent upswing of the pandemic Mayor DeBlasio urged maximum attendance at plays and restaurants.

Of course, none of that really happened.  These politicians were always at war with COVID, it was Trump who did nothing. CNN says so.

Our government health authorities acted late, were unprepared, and largely got in the way of efforts to produce PPE, to find and test effective treatments, to produce vaccines.  They did not even provide useful timely information: CDC guidance for nursing homes was generated only after deaths had peaked in the northeast USA and CDC is still revising its operant theory of how COVID is transmitted.

The official experts proposed a lockdown strategy and a highly fetishistic concept of social distancing, all of which had little or no effect but imposed horrific costs and yet somehow that dog’s breakfast of a policy became our Only Hope and The Science itself despite massive empirical refutation.

Trump was boxed in.  He seemed to intuit early on that the strategy in place was ineffective, ruinously costly, and misdirected.  But contradicting much less firing the despicable bureaucrat Anthony Fauci would have brought a firestorm of criticism about his indifference to death and The Science.  The enemy circled the academic and media wagons around the lie that a demonstrably failed approach must continue indefinitely. Many conservatives are still unaware of the highly newsworthy Great Barrington Declaration because of how effectively the enemy controls the narrative.

COVID has been all win-win for Democrats. Waitresses and baristas received more from unemployment than from work.  Now that Nancy has cut them off until after the election, they may be begging for a federally guaranteed income program and a tripled minimum wage. The small business owner is a persistent thorn in the side of the left and thus deserved a beatdown that tenured professors and many government employees have no doubt enjoyed.

Killing the Trump economy was also the best way to get back into power and the enemy did so with gusto.  All of the hateful, false, divisive, even criminal conduct done to disturb, divide, demoralize and disrupt American lives for the last four years, that campaign finally found a tipping point in the final consummate pain from the needless lockdowns and the daily humiliation and fear-signaling of the mask.  We were to be beaten and punished until we surrendered and tacitly agreed to end the American constitutional order.

The country’s weakest link was the kind of person who wrongly believes that COVID is a mortal personal threat, that polar bears are almost extinct, that Bush and now Trump have caused a surge in hurricanes, that racist cops are on a nationwide murder spree, and/or that the extreme right is armed and poised to kill everybody.

She is also convinced that she has been personally saved by the lockdowns and that wearing masks is not just a virtue-signaling civic duty that she has come to enjoy but that it proves that she is In It Together to help save lives. She has found that she actually likes the warm embrace of government control and conformity. All those mortal threats like COVID are kept at bay, she can expect more guarantees of all kinds.  She now realizes that she loves Big Brother.

I couldn’t believe so many people are dupes and weenies.  If we didn’t have the capability for the elite to work from home, this would never have happened. If this happened before computers and zoom, kids would be in school, etc.  It is a con, not the virus, the response to it.

The thing is they told everybody they were going to kill the economy and then they did it and blamed it on Trump.  They burned the cities and blamed it on white racist republicans.   One of the reasons that I am a card carrying Democrat is because the Republican Party is destined to lose.  It seems to be unable, incapable of fighting back and winning.  I never thought I would see a Republican POTUS again in my lifetime.  Trump changed that but after him the game is over.  They have lost.

I vividly recall reading in Newsweek in December ’64 or maybe Jan ’65 that after the LBJ landslide, the GOP would never again win the White House and might even disappear as a party like the Whigs before them.  Nixon was in the White House four years later.

Reagan had a shocking majority in the Senate in 1980 because the GOP ran the table with 10 or 11 razor-thin wins. But we were told that the House would forever be the property of the Democrats until Newt Gingrich engineered a brilliant 54-seat swing in ’94.

A loss this time is especially fearsome because of what the Democrats are prepared to do to stay in power forever (mail fraud balloting, illegal alien/ instant citizen voting, Puerto Rico and DC statehood, packing the courts…) rather than the likely success or popularity of their programs.  It remains to be seen whether enough people will resist that.

I once had a disagreement with a (non-communist) Cuban over whose press was worse, ours or theirs. I contend they both lie, but a lot of people are still deceived by ours.

People who have lived under totalitarian regimes often seem to have better BS detection skills than Americans.  I am so old I can remember when people believed that if somebody was saying it on TV that it had to be true.

I think the plan was about fear the whole time.  Lockdowns were just a tool to prolong the fear.  Fear is the greatest driver in voting, more so than economics.  Pandemic and healthcare are the issues.  You will notice that the riots have mostly stopped, since it was scaring people and bad for Dems.

I read many years ago that propaganda has to be much more effective in free societies than totalitarian ones.  Everyone knows that what is printed in the totalitarian press is a lie but they go along with it through force.  Our propaganda has to be much more clever.

I am unwilling to concede that these people will carry this election.  COVID made Trump’s re-election not a slam dunk, but I still don’t think it is a foregone conclusion that he will lose.

I think he will win the votes just not the election.  The vote is counted by the government and the government is militantly Democrat and hostile against all Republicans.   Votes will be rejected, found, gamed for Democrat victory, with the press certifying it.  Maybe Trump can out maneuver them.  He is a slick operator but the are onto his games now so it seems doubtful.

Lost in all this is the fact that his administration also launched Operation Warp Speed, according to the NYT as quoted in yesterday’s Morning Jolt:

Sometime in the next three months, health experts say, the F.D.A. is likely to begin granting approval to vaccines now in the works.

Despite the chaos in day-to-day politics and the fighting over issues like masks and lockdowns, Operation Warp Speed — the government’s agreement to subsidize vaccine companies’ clinical trials and manufacturing costs — appears to have been working with remarkable efficiency. It has put more than $11 billion into seven vaccine candidates, and the F.D.A. has said it will approve any one that is at least 50 percent effective at preventing infection or reducing its severity.

Moncef Slaoui, Operation Warp Speed’s chief scientific adviser and a former pharmaceutical executive who has overseen the development of 14 vaccines, has said repeatedly that he expects some of the candidates that he picked to have 75 to 90 percent efficacy and at least two to win approval by early January.

By then, Dr. Slaoui has estimated, the factories under contract will have produced enough vaccine for 30 to 40 million people, and then another 80 to 90 million people every month after that. Assuming nothing goes wrong, he said, there will be enough doses for all 330 million Americans to be vaccinated by next June.

Unfortunately, it sounds like the vaccine will arrive just in time for the Biden/Harris administration to steal all the credit for it.

The Narrative is crazy.  There is supposedly a big battle between Fauci & Trump, but Fauci says Trump followed his advice.  Fauci has been only mildly critical of the President.

Fauci is locked into the false narrative that the endless lockdowns, school closings and mask mandates were the right call are caused the case numbers and deaths to drop.  He loathes Scott Atlas for pointing out the fact that these efforts accomplished next to nothing other than to delay some spread and that months ago we knew enough to deploy a far more focused and far less costly strategy of protecting the vulnerable and freeing the low-to-no risk to resume normal life. Fauci is now vested in the ludicrous idea that Cuomo was successful because he followed Fauci’s guidance.

Fauci is a weasel who has shifted position, avoided direct confrontation with Trump while committed to a project to literally hurt the nation and destroy Trump solely so he can save face and claim credit he does not deserve.

Yes, this time is like no other. They are prepared to do what it takes to rig the system for permanent rule. They are saying so openly, so we are all without excuse if we fail to fight to win this election.

See the vast difference between voting demographics on masks and shut downs. It is highly correlated with leftism. The woman you describe was already living the life of Julia, and appealed to on that basis since Obama-Biden 2012.
