Recommended by Ricochet Members Created with Sketch. Role Reversal

In the western High Noon, the sheriff is the symbol of Justice. He is under attack by those who would overthrow Justice and allow a lawless disregard for humanity to reign. He tries to rally as much community support as he can but in the end, he must face the bad guys all by himself.

Mrs. Barrett will be facing the bad guys Tuesday. We on the right all support her 100%. However, she will face this test alone. She fights for Justice itself for Justice is surely under attack. She fights for all of us and the quality of life we want for ourselves and our children for that quality of life is surely under attack.

We are a society and a culture that has affirmed personal responsibility. This (not diversity) is our great strength. Of course, personal responsibility is no picnic. Mrs. Barrett must face those who would destroy her by any means they can devise. We can only hope that G-d is with her. So Mrs. Barrett is in the role of the sheriff now.

Does she? She is being backed up by 51 Republican Senators that will vote for her confirmation no mater what here answers at the confirmation hearing are. And here answers are likely to be more of the now tried and true none answers that all would be supreme court justices give. “I can’t speculate on matters that may come before the court, and I will not entertain hypotheticals.”

As for fighting for Justice? Seriously you buy that? What is justice other than the power to make arbitrary decisions with the pretense of critical justification? People use the judicial philosophy that most readily allows them to justify their prejudices and personal preferences, and as such one method consistently applied is as good as another.

Frankly I think she should have refused to even bother to show up to these sham hearing. IF the Republicans want her they can vote for her without them. If they don’t then they don’t really want her. Why keep pretending like any of this is anything other than what it is?

She isn’t a female Gary Cooper, she’s just another lawyer climbing the greasy pole that has become the American Judiciary.

    Val,

Nice to hear from you again. So, total moral relativism is your basic premise. As one can make no judgement as to right and wrong then whoever has the might makes the right. I think I’ve heard this argument before. Of course, it depends upon your basic premise that total moral relativism is true.

Sorry, I don’t think it is. I think Western Civilization is based on exactly the opposite premise. I think we enjoy the blessings of Liberty today because generations past didn’t just acquiesce to your basic premise but damn well knew the difference between right and wrong and were willing to fight for what they held as right. As an alternative, Marx leads to poverty, tyranny and genocide while Nietzsche seems very cavalier until we land in an insane asylum.

    No thanks.

    Regards,

    Jim

He did not face the bad guys alone. The woman he loved had his back. That is important.

Family is stronger than the community.

This lady has a strong family that has her back.

    Bryan,

Very nice point. I didn’t mean to leave that out. Still, I wanted to give Mrs. Barrett her full due. She and she alone sits in the seat she is in at this moment. She carries the full responsibility on her shoulders and this is all the more impressive. You are right that without the strength of family it is hard to imagine that any of us can succeed. I can’t imagine Mr. Barrett being anything but a good guy who has her back 100%.

Bryan, I think you are just egging me on because you want to see the ending where the good guys win. OK, OK, I like it too.

    Regards,

    Jim
