VP Pence Calmly Dismantles Kamala Harris

Vice President Mike Pence dominated Sen. Kamala Harris in the first and only veep debate Wednesday night. And he did so quietly, calmly, and methodically.

As expected, this was more subdued than the first presidential debate. USA Today’s Susan Page moderated the University of Utah event in Salt Lake City. Nearly all of Page’s questions came from the left but she didn’t rush to make herself the story, a la Chris Wallace.

The Vice President remained zenlike for 90 minutes straight, complimenting Harris while politely sliding in a shiv. He congratulated Harris for her “historic nomination” then asked why she voted for the Green New Deal. He highlighted her prosecutorial record but was curious why she indicted so many more blacks than whites.

A masterful performance, from start to finish.

Harris repeatedly attempted a “you go, girl” moment — like when she portrayed then-opponent Biden as a racist for rejecting busing — but consistently failed. Feigning high dudgeon doesn’t work when your adversary is so gosh-darned polite.

The California senator opened by calling the White House’s Coronavirus response “the greatest failure of any presidential administration in the history of our country.” Her answers didn’t get better from there.

Pence praised the anti-pandemic effort, noting how Joe Biden ridiculed Trump’s closing of travel from China. Pence said the rest of Biden’s plan was plagiarized from Trump.

Harris insisted that she wouldn’t take a Trump-endorsed COVID vaccine. “If Donald Trump tells us we should take it, I’m not taking it,” she said.

“The fact that you continue to undermine public confidence in a vaccine, if the vaccine emerges during the Trump administration, I think, is unconscionable,” Pence replied. “Stop playing politics with people’s lives.”

Other questions addressed economic recovery, climate change, the Supreme Court, and foreign relations.

Harris claimed Trump had “betrayed our friends and embraced dictators around the world.” Pence blasted the Iran Deal, then noted that “when Joe Biden was vice president, he had an opportunity to save Kayla Mueller,” he said. “It breaks my heart to reflect on it.”

Pence’s guests included the parents of Kayla Mueller, who was murdered by ISIS in February 2015.

As for meaningless moments on which the press loves to fixate, a fly landed on Pence’s head for about a minute. Blue-check journos on Twitter couldn’t stop talking about it.

Perhaps they’ll try to sell the fly as Pence’s “binders full of women” moment. They certainly can’t point to anything Harris did.

Everyone agree Kamala is not presidential material? Because in the upcoming term of office, that could happen and I hope the American people can get past “against Trump” enough to consider it….the fly on the wings of chance.

Let’s not forget the ‘plagiarism’ line by Pence.

The Biden plan copies Trump’s plan for ‘combating the virus’. More plagiarism from Biden.

I still have no idea what Build Back Better means.

Harris claimed Trump doesn’t tell the truth and to respect the American people, they must tell the truth. Then when Harris said another lie, Pence interrupted her. When moderator tried to cut him off, he repeated her assertion about how important the truth is so he must now present the truth to correct her lie. Point- Pence.

    EJ,

The FBI is interrogating the fly as we speak. The fly is fluent in Chinese and has a CCP marker on its DNA. It was probably placed in the White House as a mole (OK a fly mole) sometime in the Obama administration. Of course, Xi doesn’t suspect that the CIA has placed a cricket mole in his cricket box.

    Jon & Peter,

Oddly enough a few hours before I did predict this outcome. Predict is much too strong a word as I suggested this as a possibility. As both Pence and Harris have very clear policy ideas we would see much more actual policy debate. Harris is used to her easy California woke audience. Thus she expected her usual tricks to work. Pence is very tough, hard-working, but most of all calm & collected. None of her attempts to play him worked rather he used each one as an opportunity to portray her & her party as the out-of-touch woketards which they most certainly are.

Finally, as television is such a visceral media, Pence’s sincerity came through and Harris’ arrogance came through. For the vast majority of average Americans, Pence was someone to trust and Harris wasn’t.

    Regards,

    Jim

Did anyone keep track of all of Kamala Harris’s lies last night?

The Abe Lincoln lie was a big one. But clearly something her team developed well in advance, and she waited for her moment to throw it down.

Did the fact-checkers call her on it? I know they were busy trying to make her lies into truth, and Pence’s truths into lies.

CNN’s “fact-check” here is an amazing bit of semantic garbage:

I disagree. There were many times that he was cut off just as he was about to stick the shiv into one of Kamala’s various lies. It really seemed like the moderators was trying to protect Kamala.

(Some in the chat room said that with the two-minute limits, she’d cut him off at 1:55, but wait until about 2:25 to cut off Kamala.)

    Drew,

I think Mike Pence can write a book on how to deal with Democrats. He just let her have her lie about Lincoln and ignored it. He just kept cooly and calmly scoring strong points against her. This way he stayed on offense. Why bother calling her a liar. It will be obvious to your base and her base doesn’t care that she lies. So just keep moving forward and whack her with hard real points on which she and the Democrats are totally vulnerable. “Will you pack the Court?” She doesn’t answer but obviously evades and multiple times.

    Points points points.

    Regards,

    Jim

    Drew,

His job wasn’t to preempt all future Democrat slanders. Only Gd could do a task that large. His job was to decisively win his debate. If Paul Ryan had done his job and decisively beat old Joe, Romney would have been President in 2012.

I think I’m just tired of seeing so many of the media’s lies return as “accepted truth.” Harris spewed out so many of them last night that Pence had to spend much of his time responding to the lies before getting to what he had to say.

And the media “fact-checkers” aren’t interested in fact-checking Kamala. After all, she’s just repeating their lies.

    Drew,

Let’s see how well our own guys do on this. How many more articles on NR to prove that they don’t like Trump’s character either must I endure. How about we see some of our big professional (well paid) people dissect the Harris lies. They should consider this job one. Wasting another 3,000 words on Trump’s tweets shouldn’t be one of their jobs at all.

These lies and evasions are examples of socialist distancing

I think Trump should hammer on them refusing to answer those questions. Biden’s answer was that if he answered, it would become “the issue”. Well, yeah. His position on policy is a campaign issue. Trump should say Biden won’t answer because the answer is yes, and 70% of the country is against it. Force Biden to either admit that, or angrily deny it. Either way, it costs him votes.

And push back with Biden’s words. Biden says that the voters need to have a say in the Supreme Court matter. Well, the voter’s need information then. Trump has his list, they need a list from Biden to make a comparison. They need to know if Biden will pack the Court to make a comparison.

And her tight facial expression is no help.  And I think her voice shows fear.  In fact — I think I’ve seen this at least half the time that she’s been on-camera in debates — she looks quivering with fear.  I know millions are watching, but still a debate isn’t the same thing as playing tug-of-war with a nuclear-armed world leader.

Kamala was so over-coached it was ridiculous. Her rude, aggressive manner reminded me of Tim Kaine, the VP choice of the woman that we are still thanking God never got near the Oval Office.  It was extremely vile that Harris laid blame at the feet of Trump for the deaths of those who contracted COVID.  Trump and others followed the guidelines they were given. Trump even called it a pandemic before the World Health Organization and the CDC did!

With all the wargaming that Bill Gates and others did before the pandemic on how to handle one if it happened, the world was still woefully unprepared and Trump worked with what he had.

I didn’t notice a fly on Pence’s head, but I noticed his cold sore – probably brought on from extreme stress, even though outwardly, he’s as cool as a cucumber.
