The Debate Was a Street Fight

I’ll have to admit I found some moments in the debate when I was laughing out loud. I’m biased because for over 100 days there has been a real street fight in Portland. I’m not going to get all choked up about what I saw in Cleveland.

Trump is a brawler. Joe Biden is like the crazy uncle that had too much too drink at a wedding. He gets pulled over, slurs his words, and then squints when he looks at the cop when he’s asked to take a field sobriety test.

In a better world we would all have a cup of tea, holding the cup with the little finger extended, not the middle finger, discussing politics. Well we don’t live in that world right now.

My wife and I lived in pre-Giuliana Queens, NY. To afford a house in the 1970s in Queens you would have to work three jobs. We decided to go back to the West Coast because we weren’t going to send our future children to P.S. 189. We left before it was fashionable to leave Queens.

Yes, Trump is rude, but until you’ve been in a bar in Manhattan at 0400 hours then rude is rather subjective. New Yorkers live in a world where prolonged eye contact with someone you don’t know can be problematic. That is not much different than Joe Biden’s beloved Scranton, PA. Joe is living in memories that are a bit distorted due to the onset of dementia.

I’m not looking for daddy in this election, but I’m not looking for a crazy uncle whose neurons are looking for a landing strip. I wasn’t too upset about what I saw in Cleveland during the debate, I’ve seen a lot worse on the streets.

Unfortunately for Trump, most of the country does not live in Queens.

Spot on. You are my horse even if you never win a race. (Kentucky background showing here, I suppose.)

This is true, and a lot of folks don’t get his vibe because of it. He is who he is, though, and we can’t change it. As Doug said, some of us enjoy it.

It more closely resembled two geezers fighting over the last of the jello salad at Golden Corral.

I was reminded of the old tag-team pro wrestling shows on TV. Whenever Joe got into trouble, his teammate Chris was there to help him out. I could only bear to watch about ten minutes of it; I kept thinking, “Is the best the country can do?” It is embarrassing to think that one of those two will be leading the United States for the next four years.

As some have noted, Biden did the same to Paul Ryan and became Vice President. The Trump team knew how Biden would be and planned for it. If people can’t handle the debate, they don’t have the strength to fight for our freedom. Biden was a pack of lies, most were personal attacks. If dueling were still a thing,…

Wallace reminded me why I don’t watch Fox News anymore and especially Fox News Sunday.  Trump was too aggressive but I can’t watch his speeches anyway.  A couple of times Wallace really crossed the line.  When Trump accurately pointed out that the riots are all in blue cities, Wallace interjected, “Not all Mr President. Some are in Republican cities like Tulsa.”  What ?  Tulsa had a race riot 100 years ago.  Was that it?  Or was it the demonstrations that resulted in 5 arrests? Nothing like Minneapolis and Kenosha or Portland.

Trump missed too many opportunities but I doubt the DNC will risk another debate.

I was also very confused by that remark. Does anyone have more info on what Wallace was referring to? I haven’t seen anything about major right-wing violence. Trump didn’t seem to get the reference either.

Wallace may have meant something else, but I read about homicide rates in “red” cities. It’s a different kind of violence, mainly one-on-one disputes that get solved with weapons. And that doesn’t compare to the riots and organized violence in “blue” cities.

The White Supremacy question from Chris Wallace was rather idiotic. President Trump has no control over these groups, nor does Joe Biden have any control over Antifa. These groups have no control over their own members. President Trump could have turned that around and asked Biden if would apologize for his eulogy of Robert Byrd due to his KKK membership, adding Byrd belonged to a group that not only hated Blacks, but Jews and Catholics as well.

He could also have hit Biden staffers for contributing to bail funds for felons, one of whom murdered his wife upon his release.

He could have asked Biden about his racial jungle statement.

    Lost opportunities.

The unity answer would have been that he calls for all parties to stand down from the violence and peacefully pursue their objectives. It’s the law and order answer.
