Trump-Biden Debate Wrap-Up

President Donald Trump faced former Vice President Joe Biden for the first presidential debate Tuesday night in Cleveland. It was a televised headache.

In theory, Chris Wallace was the moderator but immediately proved ineffective at controlling the two septuagenarians bickering for the next 96 minutes. By the end, it felt like the debate was between Trump and a Wallace/Biden tag team.

Trump came out swinging, peppering Biden with interruptions and real-time fact checks. He criticized the Democrat’s 47 years in Washington and pointed out how little he accomplished during that half century.

Biden lost his cool several times, telling Trump “Will you shut up, man?” oddly followed with “Keep yappin’, man.” He called the President a racist, a clown, a liar, and the worst president in US history. He directed most of his remarks into the camera, while Trump faced Biden throughout.

Overall, the Democrat held up well during the break-free debate, making minimal gaffes and keeping a level energy throughout. The Trump team lowered expectations so much that it ended up helping him. The President, however, was definitely the most energetic man on stage.

This is where I’d usually discuss the policies discussed but this brawl was far more UFC than Oxford Union. I offer sincere prayers for the transcriptionists trying to document this thing. It was an hour and a half of crosstalk.

Biden refused to answer whether he supported packing the courts, claimed his Biden-Sanders Manifesto didn’t exist, at one time criticized lockdowns then later supported them.

Trump pressed Biden on the lawlessness raging through Democratic-led cities, Hunter Biden’s sweetheart deals with shady foreign potentates, and the dangers of mass mail-in voting.

Wallace and Biden hit Trump hard on COVID, climate change, and critical race theory (which Wallace deceptively cast as mere “sensitivity training”). The “moderator” seemed balanced at first; by the end, he and Biden were shaking their heads and laughing with each other at Trump’s aggressive approach.

The New York Times headline says it all: “Chris Wallace Tries to Rein In an Unruly Trump at First Debate.” It is not the job of a moderator to “rein in” either side. The fact that a Fox News host ran interference for the Democrat does not bode well for bias at the next two debates.

The next debates are scheduled for Oct. 15 and Oct. 22. Vice President Mike Pence and Sen. Kamala Harris will meet on Oct. 7.

Jon, I think you missed the most egregious statement by Trump when he refused to tell the Proud Boys to go to hell, but instead said that they should “stand down and stand-by.”

Stand by? Stand by! There is no room for White Supremacists to stand by, where they can be recalled.

The Dems think any group that dares to oppose them or their violent street thugs are “white supremacists.” That term is a nice tool for cultural Marxists seeking to badger and humiliate us into silence.

There are three incumbent Presidents who failed to be re-elected.

In 1992, George H.W. Bush lost to Clinton by 5.6%.

In 1980, Jimmy Carter lost to Reagan by 9.7%.

In 1932, Herbert Hoover lost to FDR by 17.7%.

I believe that after this food fight of a debate, Trump will lose to Biden by more than 17.7%.

You seem to relish the thought. Sad.

There is no question is fully present cognitively and energetically. Trump? Trump acted like an idiot.

Biden would frequently address the American people. Trump kept interrupting him.

I am tremendously confirmed in my NeverTrumperness. The question is the degree that I will transfer my feelings about Trump to Trump Enablers.

Biden employed the same disruptive tactics he used against Ryan. It is who he is. If anyone doesn’t remember, listen to Mark Levin’s Oct 1 podcast once it is up. He goes right into playing clips from it and it is amazing how much it sounds like what we saw the other night. Meanwhile, Trump’s debate with Hillary wasn’t like that. Common factor….Biden.

I plead ignorance. Who are these “Proud Boys” and what have they done that is so bad?

Also, there are some boogie woogie boys who wear colorful shirts. Are they the same?

I love me some DJT, but tonight he was flat, and missed a lot of opportunities. His attacks on Hunter Biden went nowhere. He should have been able to easily deflect Biden’s calumnies, but he repeatedly missed his chance. If only his speechwriters could have stood in for him!

Biden is, to paraphrase Ronald Reagan, a pure demagogue. He may be a demented old man, but he’s been a skilled character assassin longer then most of us (not me, alas) have been alive. All he did was pull out of his bag the condensation act he used on Paul Ryan during the Romney campaign. Put on a knowing chuckle at your opponent’s ignorance, and, voila! You’re the wise old elder statesman.

Biden is vile, to be sure, but he knows the game and how to work it. God help us, that may be enough.

Chris Wallace is the Goddamned enemy. How is it that the Republicans keep handing the knives over to those who would slit their throats? Year after year, it’s Lucy and Charlie Brown and the football, over and over… will they ever get wise?

If our guy had an ounce of discipline or self-control, Wallace would have been inconsequential.

Like Paul Ryan? Biden ate him up and spit him out.

One unarmed Proud Boy was standing by when he was murdered in cold blood. Maybe they should stand by and take measures to protect themselves. Does Antifa own Portland? It seems that they do since the Portland DA releases them after they’ve been arrested so that they can riot and attack police more.

Has it been the Proud Boys who have been burning, vandalizing and murdering people in Portland and Seattle and elsewhere for the last 4 months? Or has that been Antifa and BLM? Biden still won’t condemn Antifa and BLM by name…but Trump must dance to Chris Wallace’s tune and condemn an organization that has been relatively quiet and law-abiding when compared to Antifa and BLM? Why didn’t Wallace ask the same of Biden?

You are changing the subject. Why can’t Trump condemn groups that engage in political violence? It is an intentional softball that he used as a way to play footsie with extreme groups.

He condemns Antifa and BLM protesters who are committing violence

He broke the rules himself when he introduced subjects not on the announced list. Trump wasn’t perfect, but he didn’t follow Ryan’s example, and good for him.

One unarmed Proud Boy was standing by when he was murdered in cold blood. Maybe they should stand by and take measures to protect themselves. Does Antifa own

    Brian,

There seemed to be a consistent theme to all of these “confrontations” in the links. The Proud Boys marched and then a larger number of Antifa waited to attack them. Oddly, if they were “White Supremacists” they had no confederate flags. If they were “Fascists” they had no swastikas. On the other hand, “Antifa” is the name of a Bolshevik street fighting gang from the 1930s. They shout Marxist slogans and attack the police when there are no Proud Boys to attack. They regularly harass any ordinary citizen that is unfortunate enough to be surrounded by these psychotic bullies.

It is very clear even from these articles in very left-wing publications that it is Antifa who is aggressively spreading violence.

    Regards,

    Jim

Jim-why do the Proud Boys not turn the other cheek? Why do the choose to return violence with violence? Blaming others for their actions does not make sense to me.

    Tim,

You are so right. I think everyone should just turn the other cheek while BLM/Antifa burns the whole country to the ground. What a wonderful idea. Not!!!

Blaming others for their actions does not make sense to me.

Tim, just what are you smoking. Aside from the absurdity of what you just said, it actually is still false anyway. The proud boys weren’t starting the violence. They really were just marching. In fact, they had a permit to march which the idiots of Antifa never do. If Antifa had left them alone all would have been fine. It was Antifa that needed to turn the other cheek.

Antifa is a criminal gang, not a political organization. Nothing they do resembles a legal protest. They are professional rioters.

    Regards,

    Jim

The Proud Boys, to me, are goading rivals into street fights. Why? How does this achieve their goals?

Not all that different than what you are doing here.

They are apparently a joke crew, presenting themselves as ironic humor and no more.

Added: That is, the Boogie Woogie Boys are.  From what I understand, the Proud Boys are an inter-racial group of guys that meet about guy things (apparently no women are allowed), and love America, and get together and talk about it; they protest in small numbers with permits when they are allowed, and are not willing to be beaten down by anti-fa but fight back; and Ann Coulter says that at times in the past they have protected her against anti-fa violence.

Lin Wood heard my mental messages:

IT’S ON: Sandmann’s Lawyer to Sue Joe Biden for Calling Kyle Rittenhouse a White Supremacist

On Wednesday, Lin Wood announced he would sue Democratic nominee Joe Biden for libel after the candidate released an ad suggesting that his client, 17-year-old Kyle Rittenhouse, is a “white supremacist” responsible for violence in Kenosha, Wisc. Wood has represented Nick Sandmann, the Covington Catholic High School graduate repeatedly defamed by the legacy media after the March for Life last year. Wood has represented Sandmann in wresting money from CNN and The Washington Post in defamation lawsuits. Wood took on Rittenhouse as a client after the 17-year-old was smeared as a white supremacist following shootings in Kenosha.

“On behalf of Kyle Rittenhouse, I shall sue [Joe Biden] & Biden/Harris Campaign for libel,” Wood tweeted on Wednesday. “Put in your hearing aid, Joe. You will hear footsteps.”
