Why Trump Should Rescue Biden

There is a moment in this campaign season I have been waiting to see for months now. I don’t think the President will give it to us, and for the Bidens’ sakes I probably shouldn’t hope it will happen.

I think we all expect there may come a time in the debates when Joe Biden is talking, and gets a little lost. Maybe a lot lost. One of those times when he just can’t find that word he really needs, or can’t recall what he was talking about. I won’t wish it on him, but it’s no secret he’s prone to such things. If that thing happens, President Trump can score a major victory by leaning in, and suggesting the needed word. Or by somehow helping him get back on track.

That would be yoooje. Such a memorable moment would magnify just how weak and unpresidential (sad to say) Biden now is. Trump would establish himself as the one in command, and not only that. Donald Trump, the bull always shopping for china, would look empathetic, fair, even kind. And just when everyone is watching.

Is Donald Trump capable of that? Of course he is. He’s not stupid. He’s not blind to optics. Sure, his instinct is attack, attack, attack. But, there’s a chance…

He’s not going to do that on purpose.

He’s going to do that because he’s Trump, and he can’t let a moment go empty.

    “Wrong!”  — DJT

He is very skilled at presenting himself, and how it comes across, to different audiences.  And he’s always thinking out-of-the-box.

I’m pretty sure he’s aware that beating up an inept old man doesn’t look good.  So he won’t attack, attack, attack.

Instead I’m thinking President Trump might frame the situation as Biden being exploited and abused by the Democrat Party organization.  Which would make Trump look compassionate, raise him morally above a fight, make the Democrat party look evil, and benefit the congressional races.

    Or he’ll do something else.

And he likes folks. Oh – I wouldn’t want to be one of his bankers or contractors or joint-venture partners or an employee on his wrong side. But if I was struggling to change a tire by the side of some deserted road and his convoy swept past I wouldn’t be surprised to be helped. If it was a politician, they might slow down to see if there were any cameras first, but I’d be SOL.

(Of course, in reality I’d be changing that tire in a highly manly way that brooked no assistance. But you get my point.)

I get the point, and I’m sure we’d all change that tire in a highly manly, or at least moderately manly, fashion. But Biden isn’t a rando stuck on the side of the road. He’s the vanguard (OK, the figurehead) of those who’ve been trying to rhetorically lynch him (OK, sometimes literally lynch him) for years.

This is the political version of Holmes vs. ageing Ali. Holmes said something like, “All I can do is not lose. I can’t win. If he wins, he’s the greatest ever. If I win, I beat an old man.”

I’m no expert on optics and it would be hard to pull off, but I think Trump needs to somehow make it clear he could go for a brutal knockout, and then hold back.

I’m not sure that we should place too much of our hope in an incoherent Joe.  I wouldn’t be surprised at all if his handlers slip him an “Upper” or two to at least give the appearance of a wide-awake candidate.  Stranger things have happened.

I’m sure that Joe has an ample drug source from his sonny boy.  Hey Hunter!  Anchors Aweigh!

It’s going to be very difficult to achieve a drug-balance for Biden. He is best when he’s angry. The words flow when he gets into his self-righteous bombast, and the uppers can easily over-amp him. So it might just be the opposite of the meek,  “My time’s up…well, anyway…” version of Biden.

Prediction: Biden will use the word “fact” no less than 42 times.

It has almost got to the point that Joe is so obviously the winner no matter what happens – merely staying awake will have him branded Cicero – that he can’t win. Neither can Trump, of course.

Can one hope these will be the last of the appalling set-piece debates that will be inflicted upon a long-suffering electorate?

Supposedly that drug causes incontinence. Think Nadler last week.

    That would be funny.

The debate moment I’d like to see is when Joe gets completely lost, confused, disoriented, and the President walks over to him, has some quiet words with him to check to see if he’s okay. Maybe leads him off-stage or to a nearby chair to rest, and then turns on the audience and shames them for putting this frail, suffering man on display.

Compassion for Biden with a good tongue-lashing for the Democrats for putting Biden through this. It would be a debate moment that would never be forgotten.
