Dispatch from Seattle: Goodbye to Another Small Business

The reasons Hardwick’s Hardware (a Seattle institution of 88 years) is leaving Seattle for northern Idaho? Crime, and taxes.

The owner detailed the break-ins, and endless tax forms.  Washington’s Business and Occupation tax is a gross-receipts tax, not dependent upon whether a business makes a profit or not.  It is very easy for politicians to punish an entire industry by increasing the B & O tax rate or the opposite for a favored industry.

Thanks to Woke Destroyers, another business leaves Seattle for more-welcoming territory.

How about moving to Idaho so you can continue to support them?

    Rush,

Exactly. Anybody who gets their insurance check and reopens in the same spot is a fool. Not only will the taxes and crime be up but their new insurance rates will be way beyond anything they can afford. The most natural move is to hang onto their check and get as far away from the woke mob as they can. Idaho, Texas, Florida, anyplace that hasn’t invited the woke loonies to destroy everything.

Black communities won’t recover for a couple of decades if at all. Black lives get scr#wed.

    Regards,

    Jim

Thanks for the link to the interview. Dean Hardwick sounds like a great, regular, American business owner. All the best to him in Idaho. I was just listening to the First Things interview of Michael Anton and he talks about the middle class being squeezed out in California which applies to Oregon, Washington, and blue cities.

Wherever socialism prevails, the middle class gets wrecked.

And then they go somewhere else, and vote for socialism again…
