A Quote from Rush, and a Never-Trumper Considers Voting for Trump
This is a scary quote from Rush’s show yesterday:
I think if the Democrats win, then it’s hello one-party rule, and it is one-party rule of a bunch of Marxists and Leninists and uber-left wing radicals who are not interested in a two-party system. They don’t believe in opposition. There is no legitimate opposition. Black Lives Matter operates that away. Antifa operates that way. The Democrat Party operates that way. There’s no reason to have debate. There’s no legitimate opposition.
They don’t want to have to go to the trouble of winning hearts and minds. They don’t want to have to persuade people to agree with them. They’re gonna use force to make people agree them, force, intimidation, threats. It’s how they’re doing it now, how they’re doing it in these cities that they’re burning and looting and so forth. They are literally manipulating and intimidating and frightening people. And there’s no discussion of issues.
This led into a story about a staunch never-Trumper who finally gets it.
Although Ms. Pletka hasn’t committed to vote for Trump yet, the fact she is seriously considering it should make other never-Trumpers question whose side they are really on . . .

I love this.

George Will is a libertarian. Libertarians For Biden.
I can’t recall if this guy said this before. He’s the leader of principles first, which in my opinion it’s just a bunch of affectively high school civics nuts being runoff a cliff by liberal cash and Never Trump.
Why would you vote to have single payer shoved down your throat?
Also the evidence is pretty strong that Biden’s supposed moderation is going to be hijacked.
This is a 2013 interview. Watching it reminded me of why I used to follow Will avidly. The ideas he articulates should have led Will to support President Trump, but he does not. It leads me to reformulate the Reagan line: “I didn’t leave George Will, he left me”.
Biden’s party opposes faith (Christianity in particular), embraces abortion, and wants to ban guns. If you vote for Biden, I question your committment to your stated analysis of yourself . . .
I’m not convinced it ever existed to start with.
If you want to sharpen your arguments, fish around in here:
Liar or imbecile?
I remember just being blown away by that video. He had so many great, original observations. Now he’s voting for Biden. This is insane.
Well, he’s old now, and the old brain ain’t working like it used to.
Perhaps a funny thing about such a thing/person is that there are some internet sites that wouldn’t allow his name to be mentioned, because – other than the capital C – it’s an epithet for… African-Americans, or whatever term we’re supposed to use now.
I’d say it’s simply because Will values decorum over any type of libertarian or conservative principles. That’s why he was sputtering mad over GHWB going after Ferraro and Cuomo more than a third of a century ago. It’s in his DNA to demand politeness from politicians on his side of the aisle, and slap down the ruffians like Poppy Bush — based on that, it’s easy to see how you get from that libertarian discussion to Will demanding not only Trump be defeated, but that voters give them Democrats total control of Congress to teach Republicans a lesson for not doing all they could to stop Trump.
Will may have always been on the decorum side, but age and decrepitude seem to have greatly amplified it, to the point that Will has thrown in with the other side.
Age and the personality of the person who angers him. Bush’s slam on Ferraro and then on Cuomo came off as more goofball than anything else, because of his preppy nature. Trump coming from the sharp elbows and worse of outer-borough NYC style knows how to sting and outrage people with his remarks. If you had asked Will in 1986, he likely would already have been repulsed by Trump — having him as president and the GOP leader stylistically is what sent George over the edge to full Democrat supporter.
Let’s not underestimate what Rush Limbaugh has called “the cocktail party effect“, as well as simple self interest.
Back when Rush had his syndicated TV show, he noted that sometimes he would be getting more viewers at 3 AM than whatever a station was putting on at 11 PM. Nonetheless, the station manager would leave him at 3 AM: because he got heat from his friends for running Rush’s show at all!
In George Will’s social circle, TDS is the norm. As Alan Dershowitz has discovered, merely defending Trump’s legal rights, while opposing him politically, made Dershowitz’s dinner invitations dry up.* (He calls it his weight-loss plan.)
Washington, D.C. society is dominated by Democrats, and has been since probably the 1930s. In reward for attacking Trump, many doors — social as well as financial — open to George Will.
*Dershowitz has had much more serious consequences as well.
