Recommended by Ricochet Members Created with Sketch. A Person Of Interest In The Portland Shooting

From the Oregonian:

A 48-year-old man who was accused of carrying a loaded gun at an earlier downtown Portland protest is under investigation in the fatal shooting Saturday night of a right-wing demonstrator after a pro-Trump rally.

Michael Forest Reinoehl calls himself an anti-fascist and has posted videos and photos of demonstrations he attended since late June, accompanied by the hashtags #blacklivesmatter, #anewnation and #breonnataylor.

This individual has an interesting history. Interesting is a euphemism for a description that will not meet the Code of Conduct. Day 93 of violent protests that racked downtown Portland, and has moved into the suburbs has begun. From a feckless mayor, city council, state governor, and a George Soros prosecutor in Multnomah County are now deeply concerned. Any police officer could have told them that it was only a matter of time before a shooting would come to pass.

On July 5 at one of the demonstrations, Reinoehl was cited at 2:10 a.m. in the 700 block of Southwest Main Street on allegations of possessing a loaded gun in a public place, resisting arrest and interfering with police.

He was given a date to appear in court later that month, but the allegations were dropped on July 30 with a “no complaint,” according to court records. The documents don’t indicate why prosecutors decided not to pursue the accusations. Reinoehl spent no time behind bars.

Brent Weisberg, a spokesman for Multnomah County District Attorney Mike Schmidt, said the office is still reviewing that July case involving Reinoehl.

Schmidt earlier Sunday decried the deadly violence. He took office on Aug. 1 and quickly announced that he wouldn’t pursue low-level charges against demonstrators, such as interfering with police or resisting arrest. He wasn’t district attorney when the office handled Reinoehl’s gun case.

As they say on television; “But wait there’s more.”

Reinoehl is also wanted on a failure to appear warrant in a June 8 speed racing case in Baker County in eastern Oregon. He and his 17-year-old son were racing in two different cars at speeds of up to 111 mph heading east on Interstate 84 after midnight near North Powder, according to state police.

Michael Reinoehl faces allegations including driving under the influence of a controlled substance, recklessly endangering another, unlawful possession of a gun and driving while suspended and uninsured.

He was stopped driving a 2005 Cadillac STS with his 11-year-old daughter as a passenger, police said. Inside the car, police said they found marijuana, “unidentified prescription pills” and a loaded Glock pistol for which Reinoehl didn’t have a concealed handgun license.

Regardless of when Mike Schmidt became the Multnomah County District Attorney someone in the DA’s office should have been aware of the Baker County warrant. Everyone that has been arrested in these demonstrations should be checked for outstanding warrants That’s a slam dunk to make him Baker County’s problem. He should have been sitting in the Multnomah County jail until Baker County deputies could come and get him. There are times when you have to do the little things in law enforcement.

The most surprising thing to me is the person of interest’s age. Usually, males are beyond the wild oats phase by 27 or 28. Judging from his police record of drug use and road racing, Reinoehl has never grown up.

Unless Baker County isn’t entering their warrants in Oregon State Police data system, which I find hard to believe. I don’t see how this warrant wasn’t available to the Multnomah County booking deputies, or the DA’s office. Gun purchase background checks are conducted by the OSP. A gun dealer in Oregon sends an inquiry to the state police for an approval, or a denial to the sale. The OSP checks the state database, and the NCIS.

A street cop in the middle of a riot doesn’t have access to the system. A warrant is a court order issued by a judge. That warrant has to be honored unless the court states they are not going to travel to complete the execution of the warrant by taking custody of the subject. Perhaps that was the case in the Baker County warrant.

That’s a question that should be answered by Baker County, and the authorities in Multnomah County. One would hope that Multnomah County is not deciding which warrants they will honor, or not honor from another county or state.

I’ve noticed a few other “old radical criminals” in the arrest records posted by people like Andy Ngo.

Kinda makes you wonder if they’re the elusive “middle management” of the riots.

But Multnomah County (the elected officials, not the street cops) appears to have no interest in holding anyone for any length of time, even if it’s just the time it takes for Baker County to come and get him. I would not be surprised if Multnomah County officials are doing no warrant checks on anyone who is picked up during the riots. Multnomah County doesn’t want to know about ICE detainer requests. Why would they want to know about outstanding arrest warrants? That would only slow down their release process and spoil the narrative about “peaceful protestors.”

Joe Biden is trying to step up now, three months too late, to the violence that he and the governments of Portland and Oregon have ignored. Democrats are working hard trying to disassociate Joe Biden from what is happening in these cities (Portland, Seattle, Minneapolis, Chicago, etc) and move the responsibility to Trump but the fact remains that all those cities have long been governed by Democrats so it puts a law and order failure at the feet of Democrats and thus affects Biden’s campaign. It goes well beyond the violence and calls into question how the elected officials are handling those charged with violent crimes as noted in this post. Law and order is a bigger campaign issue that the Corona virus for me.

This seems odd. Is this normally done under any circumstances?

Reinoehl’s posts indicate he attended many protests in Portland that began three months ago after the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis under the knee of a police officer.

He must be a really irresponsible fool with a 17 yr old son and a younger daughter.

A prosecutor may drop, or add charges. There is no doubt that rioters are taking advantage of no prosecutions for resisting arrest, or interfering with a police officer.

4Chan found him pretty quickly (albeit after falsely IDing a different scumbag first).

Not the hero we want, but apparently the hero we need.

I just saw a picture of him attending a *protest with his 11 year-old daughter who was armed a baseball bat. I guess when there’s no little league….

Amazing how the press is trying to make his victim the bad guy.

Most people have no idea who 4Chan is, or how dangerous (or funny) they can be.

They’ve influenced things in very direct (and indirect) ways multiple times over the last few years.

Remember “the OK sign really means white power?” That was a 4Chan prank that stuck.

    Rickrolling? 4Chan.

They’ve also spread bomb threats and inspired murders, though.

They’re not, by any stretch, nice people, but they occasionally do things that show just how gullible people are.

Someone could make an entire journalistic career out of infiltrating 4Chan and reporting on what they’re getting away with.

It is like any agglomeration of people: some good, some bad, some mentally disturbed.

The OK sign thing was given its real comedic value because it broke out into the mainstream. It proved just how gullible those accredited journalists can be.

Not to mention hysterical (and I don’t mean funny), paranoid, demagogic, and insane……in other words, the ‘mainstream’ Left.

Of the stories I’ve read about this, I have read only that this Reinoehl person is “under investigation”. Has he been taken into custody at all? Is he a fugitive at large? On bail? Own recognizance? What gives?

I have a feeling that where I live, if I had been arrested for possession of a loaded handgun in public, I’d be in San Quentin now. If I change my politics and move to Portland, I guess the sky’s the limit on the mayhem I could cause.
