The Oprah Conversation: “Racist!”

Let’s have a conversation about race, shall we?  Because Oprah wants us to.  Like on her new Apple TV show, “The Oprah Conversation,” the first episode of which was entitled “How To Be Anti-Racist” (because simply not being racist isn’t good enough).  But be forewarned, white people.  It is necessarily going to be a tad one-sided.  That’s because the fundamental premise of any conversation with you about race is going to be that, well, you are just . . . no . . . damn . . . good.  Alrighty?  Let’s do it then.

Let’s talk about white racism, “white privilege,” “white advantage,” the “white power structure,” “whiteness,” and “white” this and “white” that and nothing but white, white, white, until if you hear the word “white” used in a derogatory way one more time, you’re just going to . . .

What?  What are you going to do, if you’re white that is?  How much more of this can you listen to?  While you may love Oprah and may have been watching her for decades, you’re starting to realize that something is very wrong.  Because you are being denigrated and vilified like few other peoples in history and when it becomes totally acceptable to do that, as it clearly has, the consequences can be quite dangerous.

Look at the meteoric rise of Black Lives Matter for instance.  This Marxist terrorist group is fueling violence, rioting, and chaos across the country.  Their original beef had to do with the paranoid fantasy of racist white cops hunting down and singling out black men for what amounted to summary execution. Statistics clearly show that’s a lie since twice as many whites are killed by cops every year even though blacks commit half the violent crime in the country.  Nonetheless, their toxic lies have quickly gained mainstream acceptance.  Especially sickening is how corporate America is bowin’ and scrapin’ in obsequious deference to this gang of Marxist thugs who would like nothing more than the disappearance of every last white person from Planet Earth.

But sure, Oprah, by all means, let’s have a conversation!  But at any point, can we talk about something other than just “whiteness?”

How about we also talk about “blackness” and some of its idiosyncratic particularities for just a bit?  Shall we start with the “knock-out game?”  Well then, how about “polar bear hunting?”  You’re familiar with those activities, right?  It’s where black people go out and find a random white person (or sometimes Asian person) to physically attack for no other reason than their race and because it feels good.  Any comments, Oprah?

On a related topic, would you like to talk about the statistical fact that when it comes to interracial crime, it’s 90%+ black-on-white rather than vice versa?  Or would you care to talk about the rap/hip-hop culture that glorifies, celebrates, and romanticizes every kind of destructive social pathology imaginable, like the wildly out of proportion crime committed by blacks that makes every black urban community of any size a war zone?

In other words, do you want to have a conversation about anything real or do you just want to wallow in Marxist-inspired, critical race theory crapola?  Do you want to discuss anything that actually matters, like the 70%+ illegitimate black birth rate that is the cause of so much social pathology and crime?  Or do you just want to talk endlessly about “implicit bias” and “microaggressions” and other ridiculous examples of 3rd and 4th-degree racism, all of which were invented by angry leftists who had run out of the real thing to complain about?

Oprah, you know what the real problems are.  You have undoubtedly done shows about all of them during your long, storied television career.  But now, in the autumn of your fabulously successful life (which inexplicably occurred within the allegedly oppressive “white power structure”), you apparently want to spend your time beating white people over the head for their “whiteness,” which has been placed at number one on the list of all-time evils.  You’ve gone from the “queen of all media” to the “queen of all race scolds.”

Oprah, we know things aren’t perfect, given the fallen state of mankind.  But can we focus just a little bit on some of the positive things that have happened since the overwhelmingly successful civil rights movement of the 1960s?

Let’s see . . .  Well, for starters, you, Oprah, are the richest black woman in the universe, thank you very much!  And then there’s that two-term black president we just had, for whom tens of millions of white people voted (their irredeemable “whiteness” notwithstanding).  Black people have occupied, or are currently occupying, positions of power at virtually every level of government across the country.  The unquestioned wonders of diversity (read: “nonwhiteness”) are preached like the gospel throughout every institution in the land.  Affirmative action has been ongoing for more than a half-century.  Trillions have been spent on social welfare (however unwisely).  Every law that could possibly be passed outlawing racial discrimination has been passed.

It would appear that America has done everything humanly possible to right the wrongs of the past.  Black people are now even being allowed to riot and loot, with near impunity, in the name of “social justice.”  Oprah!  Please tell us!  What more can a majority white country do to atone for its past sins and to improve the situation of black people?

But then we already have her answer, don’t we?  We got it in an interview she did back in 2013 when she said, “There are still generations of people, older people, who were born and bred and marinated in it, in that prejudice and racism, and they just have to die.”

And there you have it – the final solution.  Hear that, old white people?  You “just have to die” before the country can finally heal!  Although, according to critical race theory, your age doesn’t matter.  If you’re white, you’re racist, regardless of age, conception to the grave, end of the story.

Look, here is what all white Americans – especially those suffering from the psychological affliction of “white guilt” – need to come to terms with.  There is absolutely nothing you can do to satisfy the race grudge crowd, especially during a time when cultural Marxism is all the rage.  Don’t believe it?  Look at who we’re talking about, for crying out loud.  Oprah is the living embodiment of the fact that no amount of success and money and fame and adulation and power can cure a black person of their psychopathological belief that America, still today, is oppressively and systemically racist.  She’s got it all, beyond the wildest dreams of most mortals, but she still just can’t get over all that “whiteness!”  So what in the infernal hell do you think you could possibly do to get her over the hump?

What’s particularly galling is that many years ago, long before Oprah became a race scold, she had the real answer to America’s race problems and it had nothing to do with the Marxist garbage she is now peddling.  Long ago she said she was inspired by a Jesse Jackson quote:  “Excellence is the best deterrent to racism.  Therefore, be excellent.”

Man, that had to be the wisest thing Jackson ever said.  But what if the last thing most black folks are worried about is “excellence?”  What if mainstream black culture is totally mired in pathology, dysfunction, and the widespread rejection of behaviors that lead to success because that equates to “actin’ white?”  What if mainstream black culture is utterly unselfaware of the ugly image it often projects or even seems to be proud of it?  What then?  We just have to shut up and pretend it doesn’t matter?

Sorry, Oprah.  You need to get your peeps to take some interest in that excellence you were inspired by and stop piling on to the endless vilification of white people.  If you know anything at all about human nature, you know this can’t go on forever without a serious backlash.  I mean, at some point white people are going to be forced to defend themselves, white guilt or not, white privilege or not, implicit bias or not.  They will either have to defend themselves or get rolled over.

Why would you contribute in any way to the onset of such a potentially violent tipping point?  Maybe we just don’t know the real Oprah after all.

When someone says they want a “conversation on race”, what they often mean is “Shut up and listen to me”. Which is about what Oprah seems to be saying.

Dudes and dudettes straight out of Africa don’t complain about racism all that much. They are too busy trying taking advantage of the opportunities not available to them in their old countries.

Yeah, when you hear someone talking about a “conversation on race”, you know, up front, that the “conversation” will be pretty one-sided.  (White = bad; Black = 400 years of oppression)  Oprah has become something of a one-trick pony; I saw that she designated “Caste” as her latest “book club” pick.

Of course, the book is yet another racial diatribe with the same literary value as “The Protocols of the Elders of Zion”.  The book’s author haughtily declares that “You cannot solve a problem unless you identify it and define it.”  Of course, her identification and definition have little to do with reality.

We’ve been hearing this nonstop since Eric Holder’s idiotic claim that the U.S. is “a nation of cowards” when discussing racial issues.  (This from the most ethically challenged individual since John Mitchell to occupy the office of the A.G.)

Perhaps, one day, we will indeed be able to have those “conversations” but it won’t be from the racial hucksters we’re seeing today.

I saw in my prior church (about 4 years ago) this attitude of “no matter how much you (white male person) do, it will never be enough to absolve you of your inherent racism/sexism.” At which point I felt, “Then why bother trying?” And it was turning me into an unpleasant person.

    So I left that church.

But now the culturally ubiquitous presence of the same attitude is again turning me into an unpleasant person. And along the way creating in me actual racist attitudes that were not previously there.

As others said above, to a leftist, “conversation” means “shut up while I hector you.” I do not react well, especially since I am confident the United States is the least racist country on the planet (I suppose Canada might tie).

Great post, Greg.  I wish your post could be widely distributed.  How about as an op ed in the NY Times.  Wouldn’t heads explode to hear ideas grounded in reality?

Alas, ideas grounded in reality will never be a part of the “conversation on race.”

    Greg,

Wasn’t this the problem to begin with. Why did you love Oprah? Her opinions were banal. She was not particularly talented. She gave plenty of weight loss advice because by gaining it back she could do it over and over again. Her relationship with a man was always very shallow and too public. That ended badly but of course, it would.

So why did you love her? Because your white guilt problem was solved. “I watch Oprah and that makes me a great tolerant liberal.” Stupid is as stupid does and stupid believes. Skin color doesn’t help one way or the other. Ellen is the same deal only it’s now a straight guilt problem. “I watch Ellen and that makes me a great tolerant liberal.”

    FJ/JG,

Not really. I never bothered to watch, follow, or care about Oprah. However, it doesn’t surprise me considering this woketard wonderland BS performance that Greg has made me aware of. Obviously, she has total contempt for the huge white audience she has been conning all along. The people who put the big money in her pocket are just these dumb white people. Reminds me of Obama commenting that his grandparents, the ones who had taken him in when he was abandoned by both parents, were just “typical white people”. A little callous don’t you think. I’m sure they showered little Barack with all the love and concern that any child needs. Then little Barack discovered the white guilt scam of quota-based affirmative action at the university. He realized he couldn’t lose. Who needs those typical white people anymore.

A little callous don’t you think.

Slightly related – I remember watching one of those countdown shows on VH1 as a teenager. It was “Top 100 American Pop-Culture Icons of All-Time.” My friends and I were speculating about who some of the top ten would be. Superman? Elvis Presley? Babe Ruth? As those names started dropping off the list, we ran out of ideas for who number one could be.

Number one was Oprah. She didn’t even cross our minds as a potential 100 candidate, let alone a number one. The Cult of Oprah is strong indeed.

Perhaps the Cult of Oprah is losing steam. There’s this white lady who gives “white fragility” seminars (EST with a focus on white guilt) for which she charges tens of thousands of dollars. Everything old is new again.

The Cult of Oprah is being eclipsed by the Cult of Robin DiAngelo, and Oprah wants power again.

It would be a hard thing to quantify, but I figure one way you could count would be by looking at the proportion of interracial marriages by country.  Doing a quick search online I haven’t found any list like this, though.  And even then, it would have to be weighed against the racial composition of each country.  A country where 95% of the people are the same race will have a smaller proportion of interracial marriages than a country that has large blocks of 2-3-4 racial groups.  I’m not saying this is the only metric that matters, but it’s easier to count than most other indicators of racial divisiveness.

I do know that Americans who have spent time living abroad often report that the U.S. is less racist than most countries, but that’s all anecdotal.

I’ve heard the same thing for decades. Often from people who expect that if they move to Europe they’re going to find little to no discrimination, only to return absolutely shocked by the level they encountered. As you say, anecdotal, but after awhile it adds up to data.

I remain convinced that the United States is the least racist nation on the planet, even though the left has everyone convinced we’re the worst.

    Drew,

I’m a little older so I know this a little better. Since the 1960s we have made a continuous attack on any overt racism. Nobody can know what is in everybody’s heart but we have been practicing what is essentially reverse racism since 1973 to force the issue (I’m not endorsing I’m just reporting). Europe is the continent that produced real Fascism not to mention some odious forms of colonialism that reeked of racism. We fought an incredibly bloody civil war to end slavery and US GIs waded ashore at Normandy to end Fascism.

    We’re OK.
