When Did Patriotism Become a Subversive Act?
Have you heard about the attacks on people flying American flags outside their homes? Or simply carrying a flag? Or simply saying that you will not protest the flag?
Yes, of course you have.
Are you reluctant to put up a flag? Maybe not the US current flag, but something historical from America’s past — the Betsy Ross flag or the Gadsden flag?
Voting is our fundamental right and responsibility in our citizen-controlled governmental design — a patriotic act. Citizen to citizen debate about political options in upcoming votes are essential to our national democratic process. But have you been reluctant to put up a political sign or banner? Is it just not worth the hassle?
Are you afraid to identify yourself as supporting a certain national political candidate? If so, which one? And why?
Could it be that the opponents of that candidate have shifted from attacking him and started attacking his voters? It has long been a strategy to make a candidate undesirable and to alienate potential voters from supporting him/her because of who or what they are. But how often have they called upon fell0w-citizens to shun and deride anyone who might pull a lever for him/her?
In 2016 it was the “deplorables”. In 2020 it is the “nazis.” Scott Adams, Greg Gutfeld, and now PowerLine are highlighting the biggest news of this election that journalists (including Fox News) are declining to cover: Joe Biden has issued a license to kill Trump supporters. He probably doesn’t know it, because it’s unclear what he knows anymore.
In city after city Democratic politicians are, through action or inaction, giving license to violence. People are getting hurt for expressing a different point of view (something our Constitution upholds), protecting private property (also something our constitution upholds), or really doing nothing at all. And the consequences to the violent actors are either slow or non-existent. And now, the Democratic standard-bearer has labeled everyone that supports Donald Trump as Nazis. And we all know how we should treat Nazis. (This isn’t your ACLU defending Skokie marchers, anymore.)
If you have not heard Scott Adam’s rant about Joe Biden’s use of the “fine people” hoax as a political weapon, it is not something to be missed.
Patriotism in 2020 is a subversive act. Trump supporters are the underground in Democrat-occupied America.

Haven’t seen a single Biden campaign sign, bumper sticker, campaign stand anywhere in Orange County, CA. One encounters Trump signs, bumper stickers everywhere; as well as campaign stands with card tables with buttons, bumper stickers, yard signs and Trump flags and banners, and Blue Lives Matter flags that can be found on most major intersections throughout the county. Granted only one county in the Peoples Republic of California – a county that went Blue in 2016, thanks in large part to ballot harvesting – but at least an anecdotal example of a significant enthusiasm gap between the candidates. In my neighborhood, there are American flags flying on about every other house. My guess is that these folks aren’t voting Democrat. Here’s my flag. Hard to miss it when you drive by.
@brianwatt, you’ve inspired me to post mine as well. My area does have lots of American flags and even a smattering of Trump flags. But there are lots of Karens on Nextdoor and there is ballot-harvesting here as well.
I have a new Gadsden flag still folded up in my garage. I think I’ll deploy it on 9/11. I am worried about triggering a Leftist.
I live in the Bay Area and think a flag, or any indicator of patriotism or conservatism would be very foolish to display. I do see a few flags, but no Trump support ever, except for “Any Functioning Adult 2020” yard signs, which I doubt are meant as Trump support.
Joke: Two college students are talking. American Student: “In this country we can openly oppose the President.” Chinese student: “In my country we can openly support the President”.
We are waiting for the third Betsy Ross flag as two others have been whipped pretty hard by the wind here in Tucson foothills. I have been pretty much housebound the last month since lung surgery so have not seen a lot of flags. Tucson is a college town with the politics expected. We left OC almost four years ago to escape the craziness of CA. My kids and grandkids are still there but several are thinking about moving. My younger son is driving over with his daughter next Friday so she can take the SAT here in Tucson. All SATs in CA have been cancelled.

We are proud to have two flags: we hang one in front of our garage. Then we have a program in our development where people can sign up for $25 for the year to have a flag placed on the front of their property. Our entire street has signed up, and at national holidays we have a flag at every home.
Then there’s a variation on the old Russian one:
American: In my country we can stand on the Washington Mall and openly insult our president.
Resident of China: Well, in my country we also can stand in Tiananmen Square and openly insult your president.
I live in Washington state — the west side of the state outside of Seattle where many Bernie Sanders (feel the Bern) followers reside — left wing social activist types — the intolerants. I fly my American flag with pride, and now below the American flag is my Trump 2020 flag. I am a combat vet and I am proud of my country. I am not intimidated by the intolerance of the left. I vowed three years ago that I would not apologize when I have done nothing wrong. Part of the left’s strategy is to have everyone apologizing simply for doing and saying what comes naturally. They want to control my language and make me feel guilty for doing what I believe even though my words or actions are not meant to hurt anyone. Now they want me to feel self-conscious and inferior because I am displaying the flag of the country I live in, fought for and love. Screw you. If you do not want to fly a flag, then don’t, but give me a break and quit projecting your hatred onto others. By the way, in the past three weeks, I have seen three other homes in my neighborhood displaying a Trump flag alongside or below the American flag. Maybe people have finally had enough, and they are waking up and understanding it is ok to feel proud and tell others what you think without feeling guilty or shy about doing so. I am not advocating being a jerk or bully, although I do think a lot of people have gotten soft and easily intimidated. Just be yourself, and do not be afraid to be proud of what you believe in.
They shifted at least twelve years ago when then candidate Obama decided that going after his opponent wasn’t enough. He needed to attack those who dared vote against him.
But what did you expect from a “Community Organizer” who has been fomenting a race war most of his adult life.

I live in the Hollywood Hills. Of course I fly the American flag.
I have some friends that live in Minneapolis. They were afraid to fly the American flag. There they say no one does and no one dares to publicly support the Orange One.
But then his mother died unexpectedly , and they will get her house in San Juan Capistrano in Brian’s Orange County. When I went to see them on their new block you can see 12-15 houses as the street curves away from them. Seven have American flags flying.
