Recommended by Ricochet Members Created with Sketch. Caracas On The Willamette

It is official: Portland, Oregon is a third world city. Portland has adopted the Maduro Colectivo model of governance. The media has glossed over the end of the Oregon State Police (OSP) involvement in defending the city. The OSP did have an agreement to spend two weeks in; “The City That Shirks,” a parody on the motto that is displayed on city vehicles; “The City That Works.”

The OSP left Portland because the George Soros prosecutor of Multnomah County stated that he/we will no longer prosecute certain types of crimes involved in the nightly block parties that have been held for 70 days or so.

This is now a policy discussion in Portland.

A feckless mayor, city council, district attorney, Democrat governor, and Democrat majority in the state capitol has produced Caracas on the Willamette.

Come to Oregon for Crater Lake, the coast, Central Oregon, or Eastern Oregon. Avoid Portland, there is nothing to see there.

Good to hear that they’ve identified one of the assailants, ironically named, Marquise Love. According to a piece in the New York Post, “Love has been arrested several times since 2012, including on charges of domestic assault and theft.” Love is said to have posted the following explanation on Snapchat:

Might go to jail for murder tonight for a racist when all I did was fight him. Look it up on twitter put money on my books and come see me.

Fight? He ran up and kicked the guy in the head as he was sitting dazed on the ground.

Well he was white around BLM so the guy had the beating coming. Just the new way in the world. I would be surprised if the police bother looking much or the prosecutor will file any serious charges if they do.

If someone were to ventilate Marquise Love, I would laugh.

Just another of the words that the Left changes the meaning of when it suits their purpose.

That was one of the most cowardly actions, on video, that I have seen in my long, adventurous life.

I live in Portland and have loved this city – up until this year. I didn’t know there were so many people filled with hate and violence. What’s worse is the Portlanders that excuse away this hate and violence because it comes from the left. No enemies on the left, I guess. I can’t wait to leave. (BTW, most of the city is unaffected for now by the riots, but downtown – once thriving – will probably never recover).

Today I did my part by downloading and signing a petition to recall the governor at http://stoptheabuse-recallkatebrown.org/ . There are still about ten days Left for any Oregonians who haven’t done so.

    What a shame.

It looks as if one can learn a lot about the true nature of some people, when the authorities stop enforcing the law.

Civilization is a thin veneer. Look at any revolution and see how even the most “ordinary” of people can quickly turn into unrecognizable monsters, ready to torture and murder even their own neighbors for being “on the wrong side”.

This is the danger of the overuse of the word “hate” for the last decade. If something or someone is “hateful”, then it is to be purged from society. These monsters think they are fighting “hate”, they think they are “punching Nazis”. It doesn’t take much, only that little nudge into believing that others are no longer quite human.

I’ll do that right now. How soon can we start a petition to recall the new Multnomah County DA?

I moved out of Multnomah County 28 years ago, and never looked back.

Local politics doesn’t explain why federal officers won’t defend against lethal force with lethal force. The federal ICE office in Portland was attacked like the federal courthouse before it.

Oregon has a couple of blue dots in Portland and the college towns but is largely red. I have heard that Bend is drifting left and they had a small Antifa riot. My step son lives in McMinnville, about 60 miles south of Portland and that is definitely not a place Antifa would want to go. That is the Oregon “Wine Country” and he builds custom homes. I would not be surprised to see some sane Portlanders moving south.

A lot of this is an attempt to get Trump to do a “Kent State” so they can attack him as they did Nixon. I think it is backfiring but it is hard to stop the mob once you have set them loose. I expect the money flows are being identified for after the election.

This is my suspicion too. Remember that just a couple of weeks ago Trump was decried as some nascent fascist thug for having federal agents simply arresting rioters clandestinely. Once the election has passed, watch for many of these riots to mysteriously cease – especially if Biden wins.

Voter memories go back to the most recent news obsession. That’s why there’s an “October surprise” and not a summer surprise. The Feds could have ended this a month or two ago and journalists would be repeating some other attack by now.

In any case, I expect representatives to do their jobs all the time, not just when it is politically convenient. Hundreds of police officers have beem injured and threatened with deaths. City centers have been destroyed. This cannot be tolerated, however temporarily.

I’m not a conspiracy theorist, but when I see what is happening in Portland and other cities (it’s not just a riot, it an enduring resurrection — 70+ days in Portland now), I can’t help remembering how the Russian revolution started with just a few conspirators and a mob. Then there is Poles killing their Jewish neighbors after the German invasion and the Rwandan genocide. Mobs are truly terrifying, especially if there are some organized agitators involved.

I’m not thinking we have a revolution in the making, but it can get very ugly and destructive of property and lives unless someone in government develops so backbone.

Honestly, I have been continually surprised that Portland residents in the immediate areas who are not sympathetic to the mobs have not shot at the insurgents. Are there no businesses immediately adjacent to these federal buildings where non-leftists work and are threatened? It has apparently become too dangerous to even drive through these areas. Legal restrictions or not, I expect more residents keep guns in their vehicles these days.

How many businesses in Portland have been surrendered? How many residents have seen their jobs and their work efforts destroyed? Will all move to other cities or hope to wait out the revolution?

Does Powell’s Books still exist? I guess that’s not really “downtown.”

The District attorney just took office, so four years for him. The mayor is up for election in November. His opponent is antifa.

    So no help there.

Portland voters, like NY City voters, seem to like the anarchy. Outside of Portland and NYC, not so much but the cities dominate the state.

P.S. Portland is actually at the confluence of the Willamette River and the Columbia River. So “Caracas On The Columbia” works too.
