Quote of the Day: Pragmatic Moderate?

The New York Times, aka the DNC Times, calls Kamala Harris a “pragmatic moderate.” As Senator, she had the most left-wing voting record in a Senate that includes the Marxist Bernie Sanders.

The reality is Kamala Harris is a progressive opportunist. From Debra Saunders:

When former Vice President Joe Biden announced that Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif., would be his running mate, a New York Times tweet labeled Harris “a pragmatic moderate.”

As someone who covered her as a San Francisco prosecutor and California attorney general, I’d say a more apt description is “progressive opportunist.”

Two controversies define her career.

First, there’s her support for San Francisco’s sanctuary city policy, which began in the 1980s as a means to reassure undocumented immigrants that they could report crimes to the police without fear of deportation.

Another black mark on Harris’ career involved a cocaine-skimming scandal in the city’s crime lab in 2010.

Superior Court Judge Anne-Christine Massullo wrote that the failure of Harris and her office “to produce information actually in its possession regarding” a retired technician’s unreliability was “a violation of the defendants’ constitutional rights.” And still, Harris ran for attorney general.

Harris wasn’t a hard-core district attorney and she wasn’t a tough-on-crime attorney general, but that didn’t stop her from getting on the Democratic ticket.

The Overton Window is now on stainless steel casters, so it can be rolled back and forth day by day, depending on what your betters in the media want you to believe. Biden is a moderate. Trump is Hitler. Yada, yada, yada.

Truth: you can still sleep your way to the top in America and get respect from the media, as long as you’re a D. (Being a POC D is helpful, but a POS D will also benefit.)

Speaking of laughing, I also laughed at that New York Times (D) phrase about Kamala Harris. Pragmatic? Moderate? Wait while I wipe the tears from my eyes. Oh, they were serious?

No, Deb Saunders has it right. Opportunistic Progressive is spot on.

To the Bolshevik comrades at the NYT she probably does appear as a moderate.

The fact that the Times and other outlets are constrained about telling the world who Harris is, after pushing Biden as a moderate during the primary season, shows they’re still not totally confident of the idea that America is now a center-left nation, and at least some part of the Democratic coalition still thinks they have to hide who they are in order to get elected in November.

MISTER BITCOIN: When former Vice President Joe Biden announced that Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif., would be his running mate, a New York Times tweet labeled Harris “a pragmatic moderate.”

That tweet by the NYT was marching orders to Democrats and the rest of the MSM (yes, I know they’re redundant).

But the term “pragmatic moderate” sounds a little like G.W. Bush’s “compassionate conservatism” – an appeal to people who don’t normally vote for your party . . .

One wonders how far left a Democrat would have to be for New York Times to call them a leftist.

Picking Harris indicates that – to my eye anyway – that they think they have a law-and-order problem.    Having ‘Prosecutor’ on her resume gives them as assist they think they’ll need.
As for ‘moderate’ … who knows?    She’s far too pragmatic to let anything like actual beliefs get in the way of her assent to power.    Pragmatic?   You betcha.

This is an ancient game.  Anybody recall how Mike Dukakis, the most lefty candidate in the Democratic field, was “really” a pragmatic problem solver with no overriding ideological bent.

The New York Times whored for Joseph Stalin, so it makes sense that they would call Harris a “moderate”.

I am of mixed minds on this. On one hand you can argue that it’s simply people not paying attention to vote records. The party of science will just ignore the social science of nominate scores when it fits their narrative, and frankly, they will lie to people.

The other way to look at it is that  for many on the left and in the media, “pragmatic” is… like a religious or moral designation. It isn’t so much about where you sit on the political spectrum in any measurable sense, rather it is about how your liberalism makes them feel.

So they aren’t “lying” or misreading the [social] “science.” In this reading of the word. The 2nd most liberal record in the senate is pragmatic because “well she’d like to be more liberal but that is as far she can go because the people in flyover country will rebel on some issues.” I guess in that “ultra liberalism is correct” sense of pragmatism then she is one. Just a thought.

There labels that are hopeful, such as ‘Operation Enduring Freedom’, and there are labels that are deceitful, such as, ‘Affordable Health Care Act’.

    And then there’s ‘Pragmatic Moderate’.

Yes, well, a freshman Congressperson who has accomplished nothing other than losing jobs for her district was given a prime-time slot last night. One of my liberal friends was gushing to me the other night about how brilliant AOC is and what an amazing job she does of cross-examining witnesses during Congressional hearings. He wasn’t even joking. I may have to get new friends.
