Contributor Post Created with Sketch. Welcome to The New Ricochet: 2.0 is Live! by Rob Long

Okay, here it is.While Out

And yes, there are nested comments. But only to one level. We’re going to try this. It’s an experiment. If it works at this one level, then great. If it doesn’t, we fix it. Not a big deal. We’re right wingers: we believe in fixing things that don’t work. It’s the other guys who refuse to change.

If you have problems with password setup, contact us at support@ricochet.com. We’ll get right to it. We are standing by.

Also, something new: we have tiers of membership now. For the past two years, our members (some of them, anyway) have been asking to pay more and get more. So we have three levels of membership – each with its own set of goodies. Everyone is now automatically at the Calvin Coolidge level of membership, and, if you like, you can bump yourself up, but you’re always welcome to stay at the Coolidge level. He was, after all, our most thrifty, practical president.

Please note: the Coolidge monthly rate is going up – to $5 per month – or to $39.95 annually.

The next two levels – the Mrs. Thatcher and the Ronald Reagan tiers – are a little pricier and have some great stuff that comes along. Including a tote bag with the NPR logo with a slash through it and the Ricochet logo on the other side. Coffee mugs. Exclusive podcasts. Dinners. And various other things. We hope you’ll consider joining at those levels if you’re able.

Finally, what we’re preparing for here is growth – more members, more events, more Ricochet, and more impact on the national political and cultural scene. We’re excited about the changes and truly grateful to have your support.

And please don’t freak about the nested comments. Let’s try it. We’re all members together.

All the best,

Peter & Rob

For $499, I would want to know exactly what I am getting. Where will that be listed?

    Verbosity, verbosity

Rob’s put a price on thee.

My experience thus far: 504, 504, 504, interrupted by the occasional 404. Underwhelmed so far.

    What exactly are the enhancements?

I don’t want to have to scroll all the way down to the bottom of the page every time I want to post a comment.

Please add a “post comment” button above the comments.

I’m a very busy person, after all, and it takes precious seconds out of my day.

    ;-)

    Hi,

What happened to the people and conversations I was following? Did they not come over to 2.0 or am I just not seeing it?

Well, I’m bummed. My 2nd favorite thing about this site was the ability to click on MORE and stay on the page. Dagnabbit. I’d so much rather stay on one page instead of clicking back and forth and back and forth and back and forth. It will limit what I decide to read, as it does on all other sites. The site is pretty, but . . . I never thought it was broken in the first place. I am just here to read. Everything else is ruffles and filigree.

Yeah, I liked that, too. But what you do is open in a new tab (how you do that depends on your browser) so that the original page is just as you left it.

They haven’t finished moving the data over yet. Yeti is physically running from server to server with a floppy disk, and manually copying the data. Could take a while.

Me too, however it looks like we are both doing OK now. BTW, I never changed my pasword. Is that a problem?

They’ve monetized clean code. The Reagan Membership comes w/out x04s.

    Suggestion:
The blue “More” bars at the bottom of each post are a UI mistake. The only way to actually get “more” of the post is to click on the word its self. The blue bar would indicate that it is a clickable surface and the entire thing should lead to reading more of the post.

The performance has picked up noticeably over the past hours. Also, the differential among Safari, Chrome, and IE isn’t as great.

I don’t seem to be able to “LIKE” anything (that’s a technical issue, not a side-effect of depression or anything like that). Others can, apparently, or those little parenthetical numbers wouldn’t be there.

Am I going to have to become a spendthrift in order to like things again?

Is it just me, or are others seeing a very slow page load time from the Ricochet server?

Nice format. Attractive…but slow as molasses. This comment section seems to show me as “Anonymous” even though I am logged in and everything else has my screen name.

    I will be patient.

My 504s have become 502s. If this is a countdown, it’s going to be a long week.

The site has become much more stable for me (Firefox) since the day began. Likes and Follows work at least some of the time, if delayed. The site is useable at this point. But I still wouldn’t recommend making any pitches for new members anytime soon.

What are nested comments? Is the top portion of the site going to be completed or will it remain an eyesore?

This comment is nested. It happens when you click “reply” to a post. “Quote” works as it did in 1.0.

The design looks much more crisp, if that word makes any sense at all.
