Contributor Post Created with Sketch. Is Fox News Censoring Trump?

So I heard about, then saw, this clip of Trump’s Press Secretary showing video from the madness in Portland only for Fox News to cut from the press briefing. I don’t quite understand why — I’ve not heard people more in the know than me talk about it. But it looks really bad for Fox. Can anyone explain these things to me?

I think they cut away because the F word was prominently shown.

Yes. I hope they do it, too.

I think @rufusrjones is correct. As it was live, they may not have had time to bleep, though I think these things run on a short delay, and it is cable. That girl in the Wolf Gang t-shirt was absolutely terrifying. Not to be mean, but she also looked like she might have a comorbidity like diabetes, so she should probably be a bit more concerned about her own health than talking about watching other Americans getting murdered. And with such a casual smile. Gross.

I find that hard to believe & harder to justify…

You don’t see the F word on TV a lot. Somebody had to make a split second decision. They have to keep a lot of old people happy.

I hope that’s the rationale. Otherwise I see Fox News courting progressive approval.

Journalists regularly water down reports with audience approval.

For example, reports of murders do not show the victims’ bloody corpses. Most viewers prefer the emotional mercy of such abstract reports. The victims’ families appreciate not seeing pictures of their loved ones in such a brutal state memorialized. But the tradeoff is that most Westerners are left with an understanding of violence shaped more by Hollywood than by reality.

Similar dilemmas arise when reporting about angry mobs. What might we recommend as guidelines for revealing too little or too much?

I watch Fox News all the time and my instincts tell me it was strictly about the prominent F word. It was huge. I don’t see how it was about anything else. There was nothing else out of the ordinary for Fo.

And it’s not censoring Trump either. Trump wasn’t in the video.

You are a genius–no question–not at all like the slow-witted sidekick in an action comedy. A genius.

Help me out here, since I don’t watch Fox all the time. How much do they show of the riots? I’ve seen Tucker show some, but not much… I’ve seen a bit otherwise.

They don’t hold back anything in my opinion. The more the better.
