Quick Update from the Front

I had a chat with son #4, the cop, earlier this evening. He said “the silent majority is speaking up,” and went on to say that citizens were showing up in increasing numbers at the station to express support, drop off food, and generally counter the prevailing anti-cop message.

We had a well-attended Back the Blue event here in town a few days ago. Unfortunately, I didn’t hear about it until it was over, or I’d have been there. My son tells me that he and his people are familiar with Back the Blue and appreciate the support.

In other news, I see that officials, including prominent black leaders, in New York City are calling for a restoration of the proactive policing practices terminated by the incompetent mayor of that city. Homicides are up 100% over this time last year. People are noticing.

America is sane. Pass it on.

No, give the minorities what they have demanded for months.  Release all minority prisoners, pull police from minority areas, do not arrest minorities for any crimes.  Let them chew their own dog food.

    That’s stupid and irresponsible.

First, “the minorities” don’t want the police pulled from their streets. A small, vocal subset of radicals, white and black, want that. Not “the minorities.”

Secondly, the people you’re talking about are Americans. We don’t throw Americans to the dogs to punish them for things other people are doing in their name.

It is what they are demanding.  We have had daily riots for months to make the point.  I see no minorities counter marching and supporting the police or law.  If these areas supported law enforcement in the first place this whole thing would not be an issue.  So fine let them have what they want.   Who are we to decide what a locality wants or inflict our vision on them?

In fact, people who live in the crime-ridden communities do speak up, and do ask for police protection and stability. Opposition to policing comes mostly from safe, relatively prosperous, mostly white Americans who are pursuing an agenda that has nothing to do with the safety of black Americans.

But you want these people, these mothers and kids and elderly, to march? To go up against the violent Antifa and BLM thugs, precisely when the police have been told to stand down and surrender the ground to the mob? Why should they do that? Why should they risk their lives? They haven’t done anything wrong. They haven’t asked anyone to riot on their behalf. They’re no more responsible for Antifa and BLM than I am or you are, and no more duty-bound to march against the thugs than I am or you are.

You’re falling for the narrative. BLM/Antifa is not some kind of organic, grassroots movement of locals, deciding how to run their neighborhoods. What @henryracette is describing is a lot closer to that.

You’re also treating this like a racial issue, like the Left wants and needs you to do. That is a mistake.

It is local and a race issue.  The people a locals, all I see on TV is minorities and their white supporters.  They say it is about how racist all whites are.  If this is what they want for their community then let them have it.  Who am I a white person that should tell minorities how to live their lives?  Let them have what they demand.

Is this satire? Surely, you don’t think TV news is giving you an accurate picture of how locals want their neighborhoods to be run. Surely, you wouldn’t beg the question by saying, essentially, this is about what minorities want, because some white people said so, and some minorities agree with them.

People say things and demonstrate, often with surface understanding of what those positions actually mean, and how such decisions actually impact their community.

I think we are still in a place where a U-Turn is still possible, as people see the bubbling brook of leftism becomes a raging whitewater heading toward a gigantic waterfall.

There is a clear point of decision on Nov 3, after which leftists may gain more control, and send us hurling over the edge.

Certainly, not the minorities. But not a small mix of Democrats either. Many.

It isn’t all of Democrats. But conservatives need to stop pretending the madness in this and many other situations is driven only by a tiny fraction of Democrats who are strangely able to define the narratives and battle cries for tens of millions of other Democrats.

In any movement, some portion will act as the tip of the spear. But we should worry about the whole spear. The DNC is pushing for revolution. The Left’s most prominent politicians and media figures jumped on this bandwagon and they are parroted by millions.

It’s worth noting that the calls for “no police” are coming from affluent neighborhoods that feel they don’t need the protection of the police.  These rich (mostly white) leftists are perfectly willing to destroy the lives of poor minorities in order to demonstrate their “wokeness.”  Don’t take your anger out on the poor folks with lives that are stuck in neutral due to urban left wing policies that have been in place for decades.

He’s in a New England town with a metro area population of about 60,000. It feels smaller, probably because of its large college population. It’s a pretty nice, pretty affluent place, for the most part.

Your complexion has nothing to do with it. Your error is to decide that it’s somehow appropriate to punish a large group of Americans by abandoning our civic responsibility to police our cities because some much smaller group of hotheads thinks this is a good idea. That’s the stupid part. The racism came in when you decided to make your idiotic proposal minority-specific.

Sure my complexion does.  If I was black the insult would not have been thrown.

I do not want to “punish” anybody.  In point if you read my statement just the opposite.  I want to withdraw the police and release the prisoners.  Just what I have been hearing the black community demanding since I was born.  What they are protesting and rioting for now.  What minority leaders are yelling for.  If minority communities want no police and all the other BLM stuff then let them have it.  Why should I enforce my morality on them?  I basically paraphrase the statement below and now I am a raciest.

@FakeJohnGault, you’re treating racial groups as if they should be governed by a different set of rules, and as if they are some kind of self-governing enclave. The “community leaders” aren’t elected leaders, or if they are, they’re not elected to lead a racial group.

Radical groups are already governed as different set of rules.  Minorities do not have to follow the same rules as whites follow.  Illegals have to follow even less.  We have even codified this.  At one time there was Jim Crow to discriminate against Blacks which was bad, now there is Affirmative Action to discriminate against whites which is good.

If you need any sort of subsidy.  Maybe food stamps or education grants being a minority pretty much guarantees you help.  Being white pretty much guarantees your told to go pound sand.  So we have laws that already take race into account codified.  We have an expanded set of laws in practice (Victor Davis Hanson discusses this).  I just am agreeing to codify the laws that Blacks are demanding.  Maybe then they will stop burning down the cities and beating up people that disagree with them.

Minority communities don’t “want no police.” That’s the point. You can’t simply conclude that, because most of the people in a particular community have the same pigmentation as the outspoken representatives of some radical movement, they must be in agreement with them.

Polling suggests that black Americans in crime-ridden neighborhoods are bigger supporters of increased policing than are white Americans, twice as likely to call for more officers in their neighborhoods. Black athletes — athletes in general — aren’t representative of the public. Nor are the rioters calling for defunding the police and emptying the prisons.

Polls lie, always have always will.

BLM – seem to want to defund the police by their website

    https://blacklivesmatter.com/defundthepolice/

Black athletes, Black entertainers, Black musicians, Black rappers are the heros of black culture.  Sure they represent what their community wants.  They would not be popular if they were against their communities.   Democrat politicians are being responsive to the Black community by defunding the police because they want to be elected.  Not sure why you seem to not understand the obvious and allow this community what it is demanding.
