Ruth Bader Ginsburg Hospitalized with Infection

2020 continues to keep things interesting.

Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has been taken to the hospital and treated for a possible infection, according to a court spokeswoman.

“Justice Ginsburg was admitted to The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland early this morning for treatment of a possible infection,” spokeswoman Kathleen Arberg said Tuesday. “She was initially evaluated at Sibley Memorial Hospital in Washington, D.C. last night after experiencing fever and chills. She underwent an endoscopic procedure at Johns Hopkins this afternoon to clean out a bile duct stent that was placed last August. The Justice is resting comfortably and will stay in the hospital for a few days to receive intravenous antibiotic treatment.”

Ginsburg is 87 and has a long history of health issues. She is a four-time cancer survivor, had a nonsurgical gallbladder treatment in May, and missed oral arguments in January 2019 due to lung surgery.

Oh, yes. In fact, if Trump loses, what happened at the Michigan state capitol vis-a-vis guns brought into the building may be considered a preview of coming attractions. I seriously doubt this nation, or a potential President Biden, is prepared for that sort of event.

On PowerLineBlog.com there was recently a podcast about American Secession: The Looming Threat of National Breakup.

    https://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2020/07/is-disunion-in-our-future.php

Just as conservatives are tired of being governed by Washington DC, New York City and California, many on the Left don’t want to be governed by Wyoming, West Virginia, Oklahoma and Tennessee.

So, it is possible that there will be a negotiated settlement. The Right and the Left will say, “You go your way; We will go our way.”

What I’m suggesting might happen will likely not lead to secession. There is too much government dependence, and too much popularity of the US Treasury Bond as a safe investment, to execute that step. No, this is something more sinister.

To expand upon my last comment, the…activists who entered the Michigan state capitol building with visible firearms were very successful in forcing Michigan’s legislature to vote on easing some of Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s restrictions, to the point where the Governor could not veto without being overridden. Gov. Gretchen Whitmer then showed the world what a weak-kneed leader she was when, in response to that group with the firearms, complained about their “racist” behavior.

Imagine grass-roots conservative activists, very enraged about the politics of the last 20-28 years, making something of a habit of that sort of behavior.

However, she seems incredibly frail physically and even if she is extremely sharp mentally, when are we going to confront the question of whether lifetime appointments for justices are still appropriate? People live far longer now than they ever have and that point needs to be addressed.

Ben Franklin, Thomas Jefferson and John Adams all lived to their late 80s.

    Franklin – 84

    Jefferson – 83

    Adams – 90

They didn’t have lifetime appointments though, did they?

Just saying, we don’t really live that much longer now than then (assuming you made it though childhood).

Policy-wise Biden would be a strong step down. But the benefit would be the political end of Trump and Trumpism.

Potentially to be replaced by something worse.

It’s been said that the Tea party was an attempt to get the governments attention by polite means.

Trump was the attempt by impolite means.

If even that didn’t work, something even more extreme might come into play.

If it does ever come down to a breakup, this is how I’d like to see it happen. I doubt it would be that civilized, though.

I seriously doubt the possibility of a negotiated breakup. The Left is leaving no options for non-violence. It’s simply not their way.

    Heavy,

Ginsberg is a competent Supreme Court Justice (not one I agree with) but is not a competent physician. Pancreatic cancer is an extremely dangerous disease that can kill very quickly. At this point, I would like a second opinion on whether she is capable of continuing her duties as Justice.

No politics to this. Standard procedure.

    Regards,

    Jim

    Miffed,

    Not according to the article.

Friday’s statement indicates that the pancreatic cancer Ginsburg was treated for in 2009 has returned again, this time in her liver, and that she tried one of the new immunotherapies for cancer, but it failed to shrink the tumors. It is not liver cancer.

Interesting.  The WSJ has changed their article (without notice of a correction).  Originally it said being treated for liver cancer.

But USA Today still has the headline:

Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg says she’s receiving treatment for liver cancer

    Miffed,

An easy mistake to make. Of course, the Times is desperately hoping that nothing bad happens before the election and then after the election (after Biden and woke VP choice win) they figure the old Jewess can bite the dust.

I rather like Ginsberg as a person (not as a Justice) and I hate to see this happening. My mother died of pancreatic cancer. They can go down very fast with this. My mother seemed in perfect health and within a few months was gone. I am not wishing for this but it is a brutal reality.

    Regards,

    Jim

When you consider that this woman is 87 years old and still fighting to live and maintain her role on the Supreme Court despite such serious health issues, you can’t help but admire her.

I offered her my prayers in my first comment on this.  I just wanted to point out that just because she’s Scalia’s friend does not mean it has anything to do with her being a justice.  That was a personal friendship, built on a shared love of opera if I remember correctly.  Yes she can be all bad when it comes to SCOTUS decisions.  I don’t particularly respect her as SCOTUS justice.  She has supported the slaughter of innocent unborn children.  I cannot respect that.
