Ricochet Movie Fight Club: Week 15

According to Miffed White Male, the quintessential American movie was The Right Stuff. Enough of you agreed to give him the win, and the right to ask: What’s the most entertaining movie set during WWII?

The Rules:

  • Post your answer as a comment. Make it clear that this is your official answer, one per member.
  • Defend your answer in the comments and fight it out with other Ricochet member answers for the rest of the week.
  • Whoever gets the most likes on their official answer comment (and only that comment) by Friday night wins the fight.
  • The winner gets the honor of posting the next question on Saturday.
  • In the case of a tie, the member who posted the question will decide the winner.

Notes:

  • Only movies will qualify (no TV shows) however films that air on television (BBC films, a stand-alone mini-series) will qualify.
  • Your answer can be as off-the-wall or controversial as you’d like. It will be up to you to defend it and win people to your side.
  • Fight it out.

I’ll admit Casablana is a safe choice, but it’s always good to put your confidence in risk takers. Vote Patton; comment 17 or some such.

I started the afternoon with 25 votes. Every time you guys do this, my vote totals go up. Your vote totals went up by two when you weren’t doing anything. Leave it alone. Let others shill. Your totals are already going up.

Yep, Arahant and Wikipedia. These are my lodestones!

Just keep it up. I’m going to have to come up with a question, dagnabbit!

Sisyphus, go play here. If you leave this thread alone, you might beat me yet.

I am about to drop off 125 email ballots I just harvested. Oddly enough, almost all of them are votes for They Saved Hitler’s Brain (1968).

    I’m betting hanging chads.

Alright, alright, this has gone on long enough. Good job @arahant, you clearly won with Casablanca’s walloping 30 likes.

@sisyphus, what the heck? Not even one new vote?

Arahant, you’re the guy on the left.

The mail-in ballots haven’t been counted yet. They were delayed by an electron strike over the midwest. The photons in the optical cables refused to cross the picket line. It’s a miscarriage of justice, I tell you.

Congratulations, Arahant. So what’s the next question?

I was just going to comment that I was surprised that nobody has mentioned Stalag 17 (unless I missed it).

I met a fellow officer and he told me a lot of good stories, among them was that his uncle or father or someone he knew was in the stalag that this movie was based on.  Apparently the real story is that the guy was hidden in a latrine.  Everyone knew not to use that hole, and the guards never thought to look for him there.
