Happy 4th from Safe, Undisclosed Mountain Location

Hours away from any large city, in a county with no riots, with zero Chinese Flu deaths out of a total of five confirmed cases, the family has gathered to celebrate the Fourth of July.

Youngest granddaughter is all decked out and ready for the parade.

First responders take the lead in the parade.

Lead vehicle is eighty-two years old and still in use and lovingly preserved by the volunteer fire dept.

    And a four-speed in 1940 to boot!

Your granddaughter is adorable! I’m ‘celebrating’ all alone in Southeast England. Last year I spent all day walking around London, taking pictures with every statue/house of a US President in the city, but no such luck this year. Travel restrictions are easing, but it’s a cold, rainy day and I’m sick. I miss parades like that, I was going to see the trooping of the color and our town parade this year originally, but neither now.

Are there a lot of them in London? Especially the houses?

There are residences for Franklin and Adams, and statues of them as well as Washington, Lincoln, Kennedy, Reagan, FDR, and Eisenhower. There may be more but those are the ones I can remember visiting.

Haha, this reminds me, we have a very English professor in our department who specializes mostly in 18th century Europe. Nice enough guy, but he treats me like I’m slow, or won’t catch references to certain parts of European history or books, because I’m American. Makes one want to make him understand the spirit of the Fourth of July just a little bit.

Artist’s rendering of what a lot of my friends probably feel like when they know I have to interact with him.
