One Man’s Stand

This was written by my friend Nate Ellis. Shout it from the rooftops.

As a born-again Christian living in America, I have much to be thankful for and nothing to be ashamed of. Because I am taught by Christ to not judge on the basis of skin color, I am not part of the problem but part of the solution. Because I am created in God’s image, I would be smacking God in the face If I apologized for my white skin, and since I have never treated anyone differently for the color of theirs, I have no guilt. The only privilege I have is to grow up in a home where my parents who had nothing, loved me and my four brothers and sisters, and sacrificed everything to raise us to reverence God and respect the sacrifices of those who laid down their life for our freedom and security. This, in spite of the fact, my mother practically raised her own brother at the age of ten on, due to growing up in the home of an alcoholic, and the fact my dad worked two or three jobs to put food on the table. He also did this so my mother could stay home and keep us from being brainwashed in the public education system. That way, we could learn real American history, which taught us that although our founding fathers weren’t perfect, they were ahead of their own time, and used by God to bring about a nation unlike any other nation on earth that would be a haven for millions of immigrants from around the world to find freedom of religion and eventually freedom from oppression.

I understand that as a Christian my citizenship is in heaven and I am not of this world, but I also understand God has used some basic American freedoms to bless a lot of people all over the world that have started new lives here and advanced the gospel from this place. My parents taught me to stand up with respect when the flag passed at our local Memorial Day parades in Camden, ME, and to honor our elders who had much wisdom to give a younger generation. We were taught not to call adults or people decades over us (even just a few) buddy, but sir, ma’am, Mr., and Mrs. and listen to what they had to say.

My dad taught me to work hard and earn what I wanted to buy, rather than demand it from anyone, which I have done to this day. My Grandfather fought in World War II in Italy, and he will tell you today, he didn’t watch his buddies die to protect a horrible country, he fought for all men’s God-given rights against enemies that were exterminating people on the basis of their race. His generation fought against enemies of America overseas, my generation, if there are any left who have any guts, must stand against the enemies that have spilled over onto our own streets from high schools and university campuses all over this nation.

We must stand against the screaming, hate-filled mobs, who have a lot in common with all of our international enemies, in that they want America burnt to the ground and rebuilt as something else. We must stand against them on our knees before God, then in the streets, at the base of every statue, in the halls of Congress and in local government, in the classroom (by homeschooling your kids) and every place that they chose to spew their venom. We must stand against the politicians who are using race to divide us, not unite us. We must stand against their ignorance and hypocrisy, as they strive to abolish the memory of men and women who fought for equality, but were not perfect in every way, while they themselves support the murder of the unborn and anything else that is sacred and pure.

If you think this revolution is about police brutality or equality or just a few Confederate statues, study the history of the human race and look at every communist revolution that ended up murdering thousands of innocent people. They all started this way, co-opting some common basic phrase no one can disagree with. When mobs get to determine who’s racist or not based on phrases they are forcing people to say and how they interpret history, we are in a very dangerous place.

We must further stand for the hundreds of thousands of police officers that protect the very people who are screaming at them and many are at a breaking point because of long stressful jobs where they are never sure if they are coming home to their children. By the grace of God, I choose to stand and, if needs be, fight while I have breath in my body and strength in my bones. I will salute the flag my forefathers fought for, sing “The Star-Spangled Banner,” and thank God every day I have these freedoms. God have mercy on America.

We all have different life experiences that have brought us to this point. But no matter the suffering we have faced, nor the grace we have received, we are, every one of us, blessed to be free citizens of the United States of America. May God continue to bless our country and shine his light on our souls.
