Democratic Party: Mount Rushmore Glorifies White Supremacy

All they had to do is not be crazy. Instead, the Democratic Party officially went on record Monday that Mount Rushmore — and apparently four of America’s more revered leaders — glorify white supremacy.

One of the two major parties in the U.S. now publically proclaims that George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, and Teddy Roosevelt are the moral equivalent of the Ku Klux Klan.

Has everybody lost their minds?

I know. Rhetorical question.

Perhaps Biden and Pelosi can hire the Taliban. They have experience removing monumental sculpture.

Capillary and not jugular, I know, but it strikes me as peculiar (peculiarly emblematic?) that this official Dem tweet cites a non-US media source.

And not just any non-US source, mind you…:

    https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8414917/Guardian-accused-hypocrisy-backing-BLM-protests-despite-branding-Abraham-Lincoln-abhorrent.html

Maybe the DNC outsourced some of their Twitter account work to Titania McGrath?

Huh?  One UK source criticizing another?  Where is the US in all this?

I don’t see that tweet on their page when I go there now.  If they did tweet that, somebody yanked it down fast.

Not that the WaPo represents a tremendous improvement in terms of media-citation bias, but at least it could have provided the DNC Twitter team with a not prima facie insane way of stimulating debate:

Yes, they deleted it as I expected. I took the above screengrab just in case!

Here’s the thing: by the new standards the whirlwind has plucked from academia and sprayed through the broken windows of newspapers and corporate boardrooms, the Democrats tweet is true. The entire history of America is exposed as rotten, the Founders and their descendants unmasked as monsters, and the victims have been anointed with the purest balm of piety.

It’s fantastically liberating. No longer does one have to know history – one only need know that the past was bad, and we are delivered from its hold. Any deviance from the new narrative, any protest, any appeal to nuance, is an admission of wrongthink and justifies shoving the speaker on the other side of the wire.

They’re happy to be done with myths they never believed.  The next step is to make sure you don’t believe them, either.

Maybe the Dems can hold a counter-rally at Crazy Horse.  Just think of the symbolism.

They’d be holding it at a monument that can never be completed because that would close the tap on the contributions.

Twitchy can get hyperbolic at times — natural, since they’re posting Twitter hot-takes — but it does serve a purpose when the really egregious stuff like this comes up (or comes up and then immediately gets taken down). Apparently, the Democrat(s)\ running the party’s Twitter feed decided to post this after Trump announced he would be at Mount Rushmore for a July 4 fireworks event.

It really is amazing how much they collectively are into outward displays of emotion, especially anger, and how easy it is for Trump to push their buttons, to the point what should have been an innocuous tweet about the holiday prompts this type of reaction (because they’ve gotten to the point that can’t wait for Trump to make a gaffe on Twitter, as was the case with his Sunday re-tweet about the supporters at The Villages in Florida — they have to try and turn all of Trump’s tweets into gaffes, and end up making even wore re-tweet gaffes than he did).

@exjon: Congrats on the Instapundit link. But listening to anything The Guardian says is like listening to anything from a Yalie – straight systemic racism. Wait. I think this means that the 4th shindig the President is planning is anti-racist. Right?

I understand the tweet was deleted, I guess because it might scare off moderates. But the democratic party isn’t being crazy. They are signaling to a lot of people on the extremes that the door is open for them to come in and engage the party. It’s basically the democrats’ attempt to reach out to their own “silent majority” style coalition. The tweet simply wasn’t aimed at someone like me or even a person who who doesn’t like Trump but isn’t sure they like Biden.

Santayana said that those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.

The past shows that every socialist system has collapsed. They have successfully raised a generation that doesn’t know that.

The Dem tweet does not say that Mount Rushmore glorifies white supremacy. It says that the President’s planned rally glorifies white supremacy.

I don’t think that this is true, either, but I think that the OP mischaracterizes the tweet.

Imagine the hay conservatives could make if we only had a motivated leader that was steeped in the intellectual tradition of conservatism and articulate enough to communicate that tradition to Americans.  The left is running roughshod over our culture and the man that is supposed to be the point of the conservative spear strikes me as dull and listless.

Even CNN knew that Trump visiting Mt. Rushmore had been in the works long ago.  He announced he wanted to attend in January.

“I called up our people and in 15 minutes got it approved and we will have the first fireworks display at Mount Rushmore, and I will try and get out there if I can,” Trump said on Wednesday, amid a signing ceremony for an initial US-China trade deal.

The left is acting as though the past few days is the first they have heard of this shocking news.

There is a case to be made that the Black Hills are an example of whites mistreating the Indians, and it’s been pushed for decades by activists.  I don’t think their case is as strong as they say, but history is messy, and the ethics of the settlement of the Black Hills and the American government’s treatment of the tribes is, well, fraught.  It’s become a tool now in the current hysteria, and the call to topple Mount Rushmore is just one more way to press the power of the woke mob.  History, facts, ethical considerations; all are just to be used in the pursuit of power.

No one else is stepping up.

I get your point, but Twitter has made everyone else lazy. Our more intellectual leaders could be doing media hits right now.

The intellectual leaders of the conservative movement are too busy writing up the conservative case for blowing up Mt. Rushmore.  Standing against the woke mob might cut off the flow of money from Google and company.

I was curious as to what they meant  by “a rally glorifying white supremacy.” Turns out it is an early Fourth of July fireworks display. So, Independence Day is a white supremacy holiday now? Is that the official position of theDNC?

This is an interesting bit from that article, Trump speaking on the prohibition against fireworks there since 2009.  Like much of the west, drought and a pine beetle infestation have made a lot of western forests susceptible to fires.

“What can burn? It’s stone. Nobody knew why,” Trump said of the concerns over the environment.

I don’t have an opinion on what the current wildfire risk is in the Black Hills (site of our next big Ricochet Meetup!), but there are trees on and around Mount Rushmore. Could this guy not ask a question or two and find out what he’s talking about?  He generally assumes that if he doesn’t know something, nobody else knows either.

As to the Democrats’ tweet, yes, they are once again demonstrating that they are crazy.

They might have known about it, but every morning Jeffy Zucker tells them what to think and write about. January/February was impeachment. March/April/May was the WuFlu. June has been “peaceful” protesters burning down Democrat-controlled cities. They need another Orange Man Bad™ hook.

You act as if you think any idiot can come up with the news, when in actual fact it takes highly specialized idiots.
