2020: The Year the “You Don’t Need a Gun” Narrative Died

Here’s what progressives don’t seem to understand: If you defund the police, you’re going to encourage an exponential growth in gun sales. If you allow roving gangs of young people to destroy private property without police intervention, you’re going to encourage the creation of vigilantes and militias. If you think you’ll ever have a prayer at gun control again, look no further than this video to explain why you don’t have a prayer:

All in all a shotgun is a great negotiation tool.

The beauty of a pump-action shotgun is when you chamber that round, the noise is scary and serves as a final warning . . .

yep, and the diameter of the business end is intimidating as well.

Chambered before you go out the door. Warnings are for the two minute mark at the end of a football half.

Two different schools of thought.  If there is already trouble (molotov cocktails being thrown), then chamber a round and head out.  Otherwise, the chi-chink of chambering a round when already outside sends a final warning.

Standing on your front stoop with a shotgun has an eloquence all it’s own.

When bodies drop and things explode the warning has been given.

It does require some training for the technique I described.

I’d assume that so would a rifle, at which point multiple shots with rough aiming with an intermediate power round would give you a better chance. With a shotgun, you have fewer rounds and less of a chance of changing people’s minds. “I just got grazed by a pellet” might scare people, or they might be encouraged to go on since it didn’t hurt that much.

Do you live in saint Louis too?

No, although my dad went to medical school at St. Louis University.  I just did some looking around on the net.  The first photos reminded me of a photo my mother-in-law has of her parents standing in front of their home in Piešťany, (then Czecho-) Slovakia.  They were wealthy, lost almost everything to the Nazis and the rest to the Soviets.  You could tell by the scale how substantial the building was.  We, too, live in an historic house that we have restored and if the FOID cards would just show up we’ll get ourselves to the range for practice.

I wouldn’t describe the couple as vigilantes at all. The home they were protecting was built for one of the daughters of Adolphus Busch, a home which they have spent 30 years restoring and preserving. Here is a story about their efforts.

Nowadays I do not expect the police at all. They have been asked to stand back, stand down and assist in the raping of the citizenry.

Standing down includes the possibility that an officer that shoots someone may prosecuted by a woke prosecutor. A Grand Jury might find the shooting justified, in spite of that a woke mayor, and city council may demand the officer be fired, or sanctioned and that officer will probably never find another agency that will hire them.

There is also a civil side to a “good shooting.” In Oregon for example a family member has 7 years to file a lawsuit against a police officer in a shooting incident. I know an officer that was involved in a gunfight on a traffic stop. He killed his assailant, and he was wounded in the incident. He told me that he lived with that incident for 7 years on every trip to his mailbox until the 7th anniversary of that incident passed.

Then you prove BLM point. Why fund what will not do what it should? Why pay for police that do not police?

My point is that BLM is not just at war with police officers. BLM and their fellow travelers are at war with you, and anyone else that believes that they have the right to their own lives, and the property that they have paid for. They will come for police officers first. Right now everyone else is collateral damage, but you will get your turn.

I know BLM is coming for me, just when I see police stand down. Police hugging, kneeling protestors and arresting non protestors I suspect the police are more on BLM side than mine which makes me a bit less on their side.

    You couldn’t be more wrong.

Sorry. Police bowing with BLM shows they will not defend me. That is the message they are sending.

Sectarian warbis almost upon us. The police refusing to stop the violence will have helped user it in.

Pink polo shirt w/ scary black rifle. I like it. Panache.

He might want to work on his muzzle awareness. Could’ve just been camera angle, but I’m pretty sure he flagged his wife at least twice.

She was all over the place; obviously has no training at all.  The increase in gun sales with the shutdown of CHL and safety classes is going to result in more ADs, injuries and deaths.  Just another result of the unintended consequences of our inept political leaders actions.

Being grazed by a bullet does the same thing, except you have nine bullets coming out every time you shoot with a shotgun.

If you are not an experienced shooter with a shotgun, aim low, not center of mass.  Shotguns have a tendency to rise more than rifles or handguns.

If you aim at the legs or hips, you are more likely to stop the target from coming at you.  A hit to an arm or even a penetrating wound to the thorax will not guarantee the person will stop.  If they can’t use a leg, though. . .  Also, tripping over a bleeding, screaming compatriot has a tendency to dissuade those coming behind.

Anytime you’re in an unfamiliar situation, aim low.  First, whatever you’re target is behind (if he’s behind anything) is probably not according to Hoyle “cover.” Also, ricochets usually follow on the exact same azimuth you were aiming at.  Finally, you’ll almost never get collateral damage at the apartment building across the street that you would get going for a headshot.

With lower capacity generally (sure, 45 pellets vs. 30 rounds in a magazine is cool, but those 45 pellets will not be the width of the rioting crowd when it reaches them).

I’m a fan of Paul Harrell’s work, especially his beating up a meat target. https://youtu.be/ny67ZNy4zwQ?t=1901 makes me think that, sure, some of those pellets are going to do well, but you will practically have the ability to stop the advance of maybe 15 people if you are lucky. If you shoot with an AR pattern, you have a good chance of hitting a lot of people as you adjust your aim to new groups in the mob.

Additionally unless you have a shotgun that takes detachable box magazines, your ability to continue offering gifts of high velocity lead may be reduced after only a few shots.
