2020: The Year the “You Don’t Need a Gun” Narrative Died
Here’s what progressives don’t seem to understand: If you defund the police, you’re going to encourage an exponential growth in gun sales. If you allow roving gangs of young people to destroy private property without police intervention, you’re going to encourage the creation of vigilantes and militias. If you think you’ll ever have a prayer at gun control again, look no further than this video to explain why you don’t have a prayer:

It’s not a big secret that the Chicago Democratic machine and the various local street gangs have developed a symbiotic relationship where the gangs are allowed to operate in exchange for helping out certain pols come election time (which in itself is an updated version of Windy City pols and the mob back in the 1920s and 30s). If you’re allied with the gangs and they’ll help provide you with a certain amount of ‘muscle’, defunding the police isn’t seen as a major problem, since you see what’s going to replace the police as the biggest show of force as already being on your side.
So for big city Democrats, it can be a feature, not a bug, if their cities take on the Chicago model, and you can also see the Chicago model evolving from the gangs working more behind the scenes to their efforts to intimidate the public being more overt, because the police funding has been cut drastically, and something’s going to fill that power vacuum.
This should also be the year “You don’t need a thirty-round magazine” dies too.
I wouldn’t describe the couple as vigilantes at all. The home they were protecting was built for one of the daughters of Adolphus Busch, a home which they have spent 30 years restoring and preserving. Here is a story about their efforts.
What I find striking is that the article linked above describes how the home was vacant from 1935-1945. It was never broken into, damaged or looted. How the country has changed! The height of the depression and people left it alone. I say bravo to the owners (both attorneys) for exercising their 2nd Amendment rights. However, I hope they supplement with private security because when seconds count, the police are minutes away.
I would wager that a good portion of the marauding mob were consuming Busch products of one brand or another.

I’m not convinced that there’s significant overlap between the Antifa/BLM crowd and the Gun Control crowd on the progressive Venn diagram, on average, generally-speaking, when all other variables remain equal. They seem like two very different groups.
They are largely different crowds if you mean that actual Antifa/BLM participants in mob violence…but among those people who are making excuses for and even encouraging the violence, there is considerable overlap.

The surge in gun sales since the pandemic started is now clashing with the increasing boldness of the Marxists taking advantage of the combination of the George Floyd killing and the government actually encouraging the populace to hide their faces behind masks. That means we have thousands of nervous new gun owners with poor trigger discipline facing young punks with bad judgment on the invincibility of their cause, their methods and their own being. Everybody is lucky that all involved in this situation walked away unscathed.
For me, the most amusing thing was the Twitter base sympathetic to “the cause” citing Missouri gun law on “brandishing.” Who do you want to enforce those laws, folks? The cops you’re trying to defund?

Sadly, Dragon’s Breath rounds are not legal in my state. Seems like the deterrent factor would be pretty good.
Nowadays I do not expect the police at all. They have been asked to stand back, stand down and assist in the raping of the citizenry.
It does require some training for the technique I described. All in all a shotgun is a great negotiation tool. I’m all in on gun ownership, but training and practice reinforces control, and muscle memory to help control, or negate a panic induced adrenaline rush.

Standing down includes the possibility that an officer that shoots someone may be prosecuted by a woke prosecutor. A Grand Jury might find the shooting justified, in spite of that a woke mayor, and city council may demand the officer be fired, or sanctioned and that officer will probably never find another agency that will hire them.
There is also a civil side to a “good shooting.” In Oregon for example a family member has 7 years to file a lawsuit against a police officer in a shooting incident. I know an officer that was involved in a gunfight on a traffic stop. He killed his assailant, and he was wounded in the incident. He told me that he lived with that incident for 7 years on every trip to his mailbox until the 7th anniversary of that incident passed.
But then you have allimagators and I don’t think there are too many of those in St. Louis.
That’s also the preferred protection from angry grizzly bears; plus, it’s intimidating for mobs, I would imagine.
I don’t believe I’ve heard of anyone actually being shot in any of those confrontations between property owners and the mobs. Maybe proof of the deterrent value of a firearm?
Then you prove BLM point. Why fund what will not do what it should? Why pay for police that do not police?
My point is that BLM is not just at war with police officers. BLM and their fellow travelers are at war with you, and anyone else that believes that they have the right to their own lives, and the property that they have paid for. They will come for police officers first. Right now everyone else is collateral damage, but you will get your turn.
I love those rounds but they are dirty as hell.
I know BLM is coming for me, just when I see police stand down. Police hugging, kneeling protestors and arresting non protestors I suspect the police are more on BLM side than mine which makes me a bit less on their side.
